The project will explain the definition of motivation and Maslow' s Hierarchy of Needs from the perspective of organizational behavior and the strengths and weaknesses of the theory. Then it will consider how the theory is applied effectively in the USA and Northwest Europe and ineffectively in some developing and undeveloped countries with different economical backgrounds, political systems and cultural preferences. The conclusion suggests that managers should choose motivation systems that fit in the local cultural backgrounds.展开更多

Methods: We compared 3 ap-proaches: 1) a standard needs assessment questionnaire, the Camberwell assessment of need in the elderly, 2) an open-ended listing of needs, and 3) participation in a narrative medicine program in which health care professionals were involved. Results: On the questionnaire, patients reported physical needs as the most important while their caregivers were more concerned about psychological needs. The open-ended listings revealed additional needs, particularly access to re-liable information about PD and to opportunities to participate in clinical research. The narrative medicine process yielded a number of new insights and proposed solutions, particularly related to the heterogeneity of needs across individuals, the importance of providing hope, and the fact that caregivers expressed that their needs had been largely neglected. Participation in the narrative medicine sessions led to an increase in measured empathy by health care professionals, an im-provement in measured depression among PD patients, but a worsening of measured depression among the caregivers. Conclusions: We have identified important needs and potential solutions to be considered in providing long-term support to patients with PD and their caregivers.展开更多

Four databases were researched using keywords such as “postnatal care” (or) “postpartum period”, (and) “care”, “women”, “perception”, “qualitative research”, “women’s health services”, “community health services”, “allied health personnel”, “primary health care”, resulting in 9 articles for analysis. Six themes were identified: interpersonal relationship, information, communication, attending the necessities, service organization and other supports. Results report mainly on the unsatisfactory professional care for women, appreciating the form of dealing with promptness and the timing to be attended;trust;content, coherence and the way to inform;clarification of doubts;friendly conversation and clinical assistance. The professional workload was restricted on postpartum period care quality. There were gaps found in clinical practice and in dialogical communication and information on women’s health necessities.展开更多

Macbeth murdered. Then he balked. He hallucinated himself out of his wits. Then he went on a rampage to save his own skin. He destroyed in fear of being destroyed. Yet all he ended up doing is losing his peace, his composure, his wife, and finally, his life. The whole of Operation Kingship, if the author may so call the whole business of eliminating Duncan out of the way of the royal throne, failed miserably. Macbeth, on the lookout for power found himself terribly, fearfully beaten, crestfallen, devastated. The million-dollar question then is -what is it that went so very wrong in the whole process? Critics are often heard to cry his ambition--his "overvaulting ambition" down as his incorrigible hamartia. But living in the 21st century, one gets to hear that ambition is not bad after all--the higher the "ambi-horse" vaults, the higher the chances of success is. In this dissertation, the author proposes to analyze Macbeth's case from the perspective of management studies. This paper, more than setting forth a literary statement of Macbeth's predicament, aims at what management Gurus would love to call a candid SWOT (strength, weakness, opportunity, threat) and STEEPLED (social, technological, economic, educational, political, legal, environmental, and demographic factors) analysis of Macbeth's situation to find out where the shoe pinched, whether the whole project crashed because of inefficient leadership, or whether there was no leadership at all, whether organizational strategies were not properly formulated or whether the implementation capsized horribly, thereby making the whole business a rudderless wild goose chase. The discussion necessarily follows up with an insight into what Macbeth lacked as far as Maslow's Pyramid of Needs is concerned and what it could have been like, had it been rewritten with a corporate-friendly, management-savvy 21st century protagonist armed with well formulated action plans and stronger inter-personal skills, in the titular lead.展开更多

These courses are orientated at improving practical business skills of the students for meeting the demands of the rapid development of society. Choosing the right text-books for these courses plays a vital role in cultivating the interdisciplinary English majors. After the empirical investigations and theoretical studies conducted for this paper, it is suggested the proportion and difficulty level of business knowledge and English language should be adjusted according to the real situation of universities as well as the needs of English major students. METHODS: A cross-sectional study, adopting Aday and Andersen' s Social Behaviour Model, was conducted between 1998 and 1999 in Chinese Hebei province and Beijing. A total of 864 eligible married women (age 21 to 60 years) were face to face interviewed. RESULTS: The percentage of self-reported symptoms of RTIs in urban and rural women was 35.6 and 46.8, respectively; the proportion of women with RTIs who utilised health services was 27.5% and 26.7%, respectively. Compared to urban women, rural women had less knowledge on RTIs and more traditional beliefs, and were more satisfied with local health services. The results of logistic regression analysis showed that the common factor influencing health service utilisation in women with RTIs was current experience of RTIs. Knowledge about self-medication, perceived social stigma attached to RTIs, prior experience of RTIs, family income and perceived severity of RTIs were also predictors of utilisation of health services in rural women with RTIs. Satisfaction with health providers, information received from health providers, prior experience of RTIs, occupation and medical care coverage were predictors of utilisation of health services in urban women with RTIs. CONCLUSION: The prevalence of RTIs is high, but the rate of seeking health services is low. There is a great need for emphasizing culturally acceptable reproductive health education in different places to improve women' s ability for self-care. Regular medical check-ups for women are also important. It is necessary to improve the quality of health service, complete the reform of health insurance and alleviate women' s social stigma related to RTIs, giving women social and moral support.展开更多
