Objective: To explore patterns of workplace mistreatment, relationships with health and with selected workplace, economic and social factors in 34 countries. Methods: Secondary data analysis of the European Working Conditions Survey. Results: Patterns of ill treatment (across occupational groups, and sectors) were broadly consistent with smaller, less representative studies. Prevalence was lower than many studies but corresponds with estimates of serious mistreatment. Mistreatment increases the risk of both physical and mental ill health and is associated with a range of work environment factors. Mistreatment is more prevalent in countries with smaller gender gaps, better performance on the GINI index for income inequality and for countries with specific anti-bullying legislation. Conclusions: Mistreatment in work is complex, and interventions are required at the level of the organization. Implementation issues need to be addressed, as specific anti-bullying legislation does not appear to provide sufficient protection. 展开更多

Objectives:To examine the prevalence of and identify the predictive factors for elder mistreatment(EM)in Chinese migrant families. Methods:This was a cross-sectional study.A total of 489 rural migrant elderly were recruited using multistage sampling technique from communities in Wenzhou city between June 2020 and October 2020.All par ticipants completed the Mini-Cog,and then data were collected in a survey using the 12-Item Shor t-Form Health Survey Questionnaire,Abuser’s Dependency Scale, the Friendship Scale(FS),Intergenerational Ambivalence Scale,Filial Piety Index, the Assessment Tool of Domestic Elder Abuse, and a demographic questionnaire.Descriptive statistics and multiple regression were carried out to analyze the data. Results:The prevalences of physical mistreatment, psychological mistreatment, neglect, economic mistreatment, and social mistreatment among the migrant elderly were 1.23%,20.65%,22.50%,0.61%,and 9.41%,respectively.Significant predictive factors were migrant elderlies’mental health status(β=–0.118,P<0.01),adult children’s filial piety(FP)(β=–0.245,P<0.001),and intergene rational ambivalence(β=0.365,P<0.001).Conclusions:EM was common among the migrant elderly.Predictive factors for EM in Chinese migrant families were identified. The findings could be useful in developing nursing interventions to promote migrant elderlies’mental health, uphold their children’s FP,and harmonize intergenerational relationship to avoid EM. 展开更多

BACKGROUND In the past years, only a few studies with a limited number of adult patients analyzed clinical features of allied disorders of Hirschsprung’s disease(ADHD),most of which were individual case reports or lacked detailed clinical information.Although many studies have reported patients presenting to the emergency department(ED)with recurrent abdominal symptoms for a number of disorders, there are few data involving ADHD.However, owing to a lack of awareness of the disease, misdiagnoses and mistreatments are common.Severe complications such as perforation, bleeding, malabsorption, and even death in ADHD had been reported by many studies.AIM To assist ED clinicians in having a more comprehensive understanding of this disease and making an early suspected diagnosis of ADHD more effectively.METHODS We enrolled 53 patients who visited the ED and were eventually diagnosed with ADHD over the past 11 years in our hospital.Their basic information, clinical manifestations, and imaging findings were analyzed.Blood indices were compared between the ADHD and irritable bowel syndrome(IBS)groups.RESULTS Adult patients with ADHD had a mean age of 48.8±14.3 years, and 77.4%had been treated before admission. The transverse colon was the most common dilated part(73.6%),and constipation(67.9%)was the most common symptom.ADHD patients can present with uncommon symptoms and false-negative imaging findings.Logistic regression analysis indicated that body mass index(BMI)[odds ratio(OR)=0.786,P=0.013],cholinesterase(per 1000 units;OR=0.693,P=0.008),and blood chlorine(OR=0.816,P=0.022)were determined to be independent related factors between the ADHD and IBS groups. The area under the receiver operating characteristics curve of these three indices combined was 0.812(P<0.001).CONCLUSION Emergency physicians should be vigilant regarding patients with chronic constipation, abdominal pain,or abdominal distension, and consider the possibility of ADHD despite its rarity.Abdominal computed tomography examination is recommended as a useful tool in the suspected diagnosis of ADHD.BMI,cholinesterase, and blood chlorine have good discriminative abilities between ADHD and IBS.The nutritional status of adult patients with ADHD is worthy of further attention.Surgical treatment for adult patients with ADHD is important and inevitable. 展开更多

COVID-19 had a significant impact on Egypt’s economic development and style of life. Aim: This research aimed to estimate the prevalence of elder abuse in the Fayoum Governorate of Egypt during the COVID-19 pandemic and assess the prevalence of different elder abuse subtypes and study the effect of different demographic characteristics on these abuse subtypes. Methods: This study was a cross-sectional, descriptive survey among 201 older adults aged 60 and above in the Fayoum Governorate. The structured questionnaire used in the study had three sections: demographic characteristics, the Hwalek- Sengstock elder abuse screening test, and the Questions to Elicit Elder Abuse screening tool. Results: This research documented that the prevalence of elder abuse was (72.6%) and the most prevalent types were emotional and neglect abuse (71.1% and 64.7%, respectively). In our study, 22.9% of older adults were exposed to a single type of abuse, 29.9% to two types, 26.9% to three types, and 10.4% to four types. Female is significantly higher than male abuse exposure (66.7% vs. 33.3%). 52.4% versus 7.1% were more likely to be abused than elderly persons who earn enough income. Conclusion: According to this study, emotional and neglect abuse were the most common types of elder abuse. Risk factors for elder abuse included being between the ages of 60 and 70 years, being a woman, residing in a rural location, being illiterate, jobless, married, earning little money, and belonging to a middle-class socioeconomic group. For the general public to better comprehend the consequences of elder abuse on their health and human rights, awareness and education must be increased. 展开更多
