It was also suggested that Mg2+ may play a role in leading to a suitable conformation of the reconstituted H+-ATPase with higher activities by changing fluidity of phaspholipid bilayers of the reconstituted vesicles. It was recently reported that a certain amount of Mg2+ present in the dialysis medium is necessary for forming a proper fluidity of phospholipids of the proteoliposomes containing H+-ATPase.
