Surveying on English Mobile Learning Among University Students: Current State and Influencing Factors

Mobile learning integrates mobile technology with digital learning,offering flexible,personalized content and portable equipment.It enables access to rich content and enhances learning efficiency.Therefore,it has become mainstream to utilize mobile devices for English learning among university students’English learning.The current study aims to examine the current situation and influencing factors of university students’English mobile learning.98 university students in one university of Shanghai participated the study and the questionnaire was used to collect the data.The results indicated that most university students already have electronic devices to support mobile learning.Personal factors,environmental factors,digital literacy,and technological capabilities are the main factors affecting university students’English mobile learning.The current study has implications for learners,teachers,and software developers.Learners should adjust their learning motivation,play an active role,and fully utilize the mobile platform to obtain resources and improve learning efficiency.Teachers should incorporate the advantages of mobile teaching and promote categorized and tiered teaching.Software developers should add new functions on the basis of meeting the basic needs of learners and continuously innovate the mobile learning platform.

Task Offloading and Resource Allocation for Edge-Enabled Mobile Learning

Mobile learning has evolved into a new format of education based on communication and computer technology that is favored by an increasing number of learning users thanks to the development of wireless communication networks,mobile edge computing,artificial intelligence,and mobile devices.However,due to the constrained data processing capacity of mobile devices,efficient and effective interactive mobile learning is a challenge.Therefore,for mobile learning,we propose a"Cloud,Edge and End"fusion system architecture.Through task offloading and resource allocation for edge-enabled mobile learning to reduce the time and energy consumption of user equipment.Then,we present the proposed solutions that uses the minimum cost maximum flow(MCMF)algorithm to deal with the offloading problem and the deep Q network(DQN)algorithm to deal with the resource allocation problem respectively.Finally,the performance evaluation shows that the proposed offloading and resource allocation scheme can improve system performance,save energy,and satisfy the needs of learning users.

Exploring Mobile Learning Tools Used in Autonomous Learning:a Perspective from China

With the development of mobile technologies,mobile learning has become a trend and a necessary means in the e-learning environment.E-learners' autonomous learning processes can also be facilitated through the adoption of various mobile learning tools.Mobile learning tools can be classified into different types according to their different features and functions.Mobile learning devices,mobile learning software,mobile learning resources,and mobile learning services are the four types of learning tools suggested in the paper.Different mobile learning tools are proven to be able to fulfill different needs of autonomous learning.

Feasibility Investigation and Development Exploration on Popularizing the Method of English Fragmented Mobile Learning of Undergraduates

This paper attempts to investigate the feasibility and learning effects of English fragmented learning via mobile devices.Questionnaires and interviews were employed to do the survey on 157 undergraduates from 24 universities in China.The research findings reveal that English fragmented learning via mobile devices has some positive effects on the improvement of learners’knowledge and learning ability.In addition,there have been a certain number of useful learning resources and platforms with diversified features.The study has the implications that fragmented mobile learning is feasible and can be popularized in English learning.

Research on Blended Teaching Model in College English Based on Mobile Learning App

Mobile learning is the general trend of the times and the inevitable choice for the reform and development of college English teaching.This article attempts to use blended learning theory,mobile learning theory,and instructional design theory as a guide.In many English mobile learning apps,Superstar Learning Link is used as an example to design an online and offline blended teaching mode.It proposes thinking expansion and interaction in pre-class stage.Consolidation of input and outputoriented process are during class and evaluation and sublimation are made after class.The essay is aimed to break the boundaries between traditional teaching and mobile learning,combining synchronous learning with personalized learning in order to improve comprehensive levels of English.

Enhancement of students' learning with mobile devices: Taking librarian-faculty collaboration in SJTU as an example

Purpose： This paper presents an innovative program of Shanghai Jiao Tong University Library which aims to help engineering students to make use of mobile devices to improve their learning efficiency. Design/methodology/approach： Information literacy training and course learning resources were integrated into students＇ learning process. Surveys on students＇ learning with the touch pads were conducted to help evaluate the program＇s effectiveness. Findings： Our practice showed that collaboration of library staff with faculty members is an effective way to integrate information literacy education and course-specific library resources into students＇ learning with mobile devices, which has greatly improved the efficiency of students＇ learning. Research limitations： First, our literacy training still focused on the use of mobile devices in information access, but not on how to evaluate and manage their information resources with mobile devices. Second, subject librarians need to shift their role from information service providers into information resource instructors while developing the partnership with faculty members and teaching assistants. Practical implications： This paper provides learning efficiency of university students with touch pads conveniently. a new insight into the way of how to enhance such new technical devices as smartphones and Originality/value： Our practice can be used as a valuable guide for libraries that plan to leverage mobile technologies to enhance students＇ learning efficiency.

Empirical Study of College Teachers’Attitude Toward Introducing Mobile Learning to Classroom Teaching

With the rapid development of information technology and high broad reach of internet,mobile learning is becoming increasingly popular.In this paper,a mobile-learning method is proposed to explore college teachers’attitude toward introducing mobile learning to classroom teaching.An experiment was implemented to investigate teachers’attitude and classroom teaching activities.The results show that they hold an affirmative attitude toward mobile learning,and different mobile learning platforms were applied into almost every step of their classroom teaching.Compared to traditional teaching method,mobile learning has prominent advantages,such as instant and interactive way of teaching,fast updating knowledge,simple and convenient assessment function,various teaching approaches and improvements on students’learner autonomy.When introducing mobile learning to classroom teaching,teachers’main concern falls on that students use mobile devices to do other things in the name of study and can’t balance their time spent on mobile learning.Finally,a suggestion is given that it is better for teachers to combine mobile learning with traditional teaching methods to achieve the best teaching effect.

An Analysis of English Majors' Mobile Micro Vocabulary Learning

Though numerous English learning researches have been done for English majors,there is not fairly enough analysis ofEnglish mobile micro learning especially in vocabulary.Based on the condition,the author tries to analyze the feasibility of Englishmajors’vocabulary learning via mobile devices based on mobile micro learning mode in the way of questionnaire survey.In theend,the result of the research proves that it could be feasible to adopt mobile micro learning mode in English majors’vocabularylearning.

AI-Based Culture Independent Pervasive M-Learning Prototype Using UI Plasticity Design

This paper explains the development of a culturally inclusive ubiquitous M-Learning platform(“Mobile Academy”)with an AI-based adaptive user interface.The rationale and need for this research and development are justified by the continuing widespread adoption of the Internet and Internet enabled devices,especially smartphones.The M-learning platform was designed from the onset for the global traveller.The characteristics and limitations of the application are also discussed.The Mobile Academy,proof of concept prototype,was created to facilitate teaching and learning on the move or in environments where the use of a desktop computer is inconvenient or simply impossible.The platform’s primary objective was cross-cultural usability through the use of a combination of AI and plasticity of user interface design techniques.The usability evaluation plan was comprehensive and the results obtained were studied in detail.This also included consideration of the results of the SVM(Support Vector Machine)classifiers’performance and cross-device evaluation.The AI-based adaptive interface prototype has been tested and evaluated to show its merits and capabilities in terms of its usability,inclusivity and effectiveness of the interface.From the results,it was concluded that such a culture independent application was also affordable.

Application of Smart-Phone Apps by Chinese College Students in Learning English

Currently,there is an increasing trend in the shift from the use of traditional technologies,such as a desktop computer towards the use of mobile technologies,such as a mobile phone.Therefore,students are nowadays well equipped for mobile learning.The aim of this review is to explore the use of mobile phones and/or smart phones and their apps for learning English as a foreign language,and highlight their benefits and limitations for their use in the learning of English as a foreign language.

Mobile Assisted Chinese Learning as a Foreign Language:An Overview of Publications between 2007 and 2019

This paper presents a critical overview of studies on mobile assisted language learning(MALL)in teaching Chinese as a foreign language(CFL)during the period 2007−2019.In the review,keyword and reference searches were conducted to identify and select empirical studies during the review period.Thematic and frequency analyses were employed on the data.This identified methodological trends and research outcomes in the reviewed studies.As shown in the results,most of the reviewed studies used qualitative methods to examine the effect of mobile CFL learning on formal learning in higher education settings.These studies document the positive impact that mobile technology has on CFL learning.Their attention is primarily on the use of mobile learning in Chinese vocabulary acquisition,language skill development and mobile seamless learning.Suggestions are provided for further research to support continuous mobile assisted CFL teaching and learning.

Research on the Mixed Teaching Model in Colleges and Universities in the Context of"Internet+"

Under the tide of"Internet+education",the new means of information technology education is constantly used in education and teaching,and the traditional teaching models and teaching methods urgently need to be changed.There is no doubt about the integration of online teaching and offline teaching.On the basis of reviewing the research on the mixed teaching model at home and abroad,this paper puts forward the idea of constructing the mixed teaching model in colleges and universities in the context of"Internet+",and sets up the mixed teaching model in colleges and universities in the context of"Internet+".Through the detailed and concrete design of the operation process of the mixed teaching model,we can break the single shackles of online teaching and face-to-face teaching,and form an interactive and collaborative teaching ecosystem to realize the common development of online teaching and offline teaching.

Application of Movie-based App in Left-behind Children’s EFLL earning

China has been witnessing an immense number of left-behind children due to annual parental rural-to-urban immi-grant working.As a special educational group,the status quo of left-behind children’s English as a foreign language(EFL)learning is not very optimistic.Combiningmobile--assistedlanguage learning(MALL)with traditional foreign language instruction,classroom teaching with off--class mobile learning,Englishmovie--basedApp with functions of bilingual caption setting,unknown words con-sulting,consolidation drills and English proficiency test can be employed to promote left-behind children's EFL learning.

The Effects of Attention Cueing on English Reading on Mobile Phones

The purpose of this quasi-experimental study is to examine whether attention cueing benefits learners of ancient Egyptian culture using mobile-assisted instrumentation.A self-regulatory,mobile phone based set of visualizations depicting ancient Egyptian culture served as the primary instrument.A total of 50 learners of English as a foreign language(EFL)from two sections of a reading course were randomly assigned to one of two groups.First,the participants were tested to assess their English reading level and prior knowledge of Egyptian culture.Next,they were randomly assigned to one of two modes:picture-plus-text or picture-plus-text-plus-signal.Immediately after experimental treatment,participants were administered tests of pictorial recall,matching,jigsaw puzzles,and retention as well as cognitive load measurement and attitude questionnaires.Experimental treatment was the independent variable,while the comprehension test,cognitive load questionnaire,and attitude questionnaire were the dependent variables.The results indicated that learners in the cueing condition outperform those in a non-cueing condition for matching and total score,but not for retention.The analysis of cognitive load revealed that learners in the cueing condition experience lower germane load than those in the non-cueing condition.However,the result of the questionnaires indicated that all the students felt mobile phones were convenient and useful in English learning regardless of the presence or not of attention cueing.The results stress the importance of presenting attention-capturing arrows in external representation as it can result in better learning efficiency.

MobSafe:Cloud Computing Based Forensic Analysis for Massive Mobile Applications Using Data Mining

With the explosive increase in mobile apps, more and more threats migrate from traditional PC client to mobile device. Compared with traditional Win＋Intel alliance in PC, Android＋ARM alliance dominates in Mobile Internet, the apps replace the PC client software as the major target of malicious usage. In this paper, to improve the security status of current mobile apps, we propose a methodology to evaluate mobile apps based on cloud computing platform and data mining. We also present a prototype system named MobSafe to identify the mobile app＇s virulence or benignancy. Compared with traditional method, such as permission pattern based method, MobSafe combines the dynamic and static analysis methods to comprehensively evaluate an Android app. In the implementation, we adopt Android Security Evaluation Framework （ASEF） and Static Android Analysis Framework （SAAF）, the two representative dynamic and static analysis methods, to evaluate the Android apps and estimate the total time needed to evaluate all the apps stored in one mobile app market. Based on the real trace from a commercial mobile app market called AppChina, we can collect the statistics of the number of active Android apps, the average number apps installed in one Android device, and the expanding ratio of mobile apps. As mobile app market serves as the main line of defence against mobile malwares, our evaluation results show that it is practical to use cloud computing platform and data mining to verify all stored apps routinely to filter out malware apps from mobile app markets. As the future work, MobSafe can extensively use machine learning to conduct automotive forensic analysis of mobile apps based on the generated multifaceted data in this stage.
