Effectiveness of Short Message Service Support on Adherence to Chemotherapy Treatment among Patients Attending Cancer Treatment Facilities in Kenya

Introduction: Cancer is a chronic debilitating disease that unnerves patients, communities, and nations. At some point in cancer patient’s disease experience, chemotherapy is used, and the patient is expected to adhere to treatment to improve survival and quality of life. Methods: This multisite Cluster Randomized Trial (CRT) evaluated the effectiveness of mobile phone Short Message Service (SMS) support on the adherence to treatment schedules among adult cancer patients in Kenya. Data was collected using questionnaires. Ethical approvals were obtained from relevant Ethical Review Boards (ERBs). Results: The mean adherence was 83%. There was a significant difference between treatment arms in relation to the adherence. The intervention arm had a higher mean adherence difference, M = 3.913, 95% CI 2.632-5.193, t (402) = 6.006, p ≤ 0.001), with Cohen’s d = 0.60. Although not significant, (χ2dd = 0.151, df = 1, p = 2.064), more women were perfect adheres than males. Perfect adherers were satisfied with SMS support (χ2dd = 7.620, df = 1, p = 0.06), were in the intervention arm (χ2dd = 22.942, df = 1, p ≤ 0.001), and had trust in the care provider (χ2dd = 10.591 p ≤ 0.001). SMS support was not significant in the multivariate analysis but had an estimated effect size of 0.958 (z = 1.424, p = 0.154, CI = 0.242-3.781), indicating that mean adherence was slightly better in the presence of the intervention. Conclusions: SMS-support intervention has demonstrated superiority in influencing adherence. Further, health system-related factors have a significant influence on the adherence to chemotherapy treatment. Interventions to re-design health systems that are responsive to unmet care needs of cancer patients must be explored. .

Stylistic features of cell-phone short messages in English and their translation

Cell-phone short messages in English possess special styles. Some are in a literary style, and others in a non-literary one. In the present paper, the stylistic features of English short messages are illustrated by applying the stylistic theory and employing the ＂Model of Analyzing Textual Function＂. The features of the two styles of messages are described and analyzed from the perspectives of their pronunciation, graphology, vocabulary, grammar, discourse, rhetoric, etc., and the stylistic features serve as the basis for discussing the translation principles and methods of English short messages.

Development and Application of the Edition System of Agricultural Meteorology Short Message in Liaoning Province

In order to meet the needs of Agricultural Meteorology business and research,an edition system of agricultural meteorology short message was established based on the Microsoft Access 2000 database and visualization developing software Visual Basic 6.0 in Liaoning Province.The basic principles of agro-meteorological text editing and system optimization ideas were pointed out.The meteorological conditions of the main crops growth needed in material library were introduced.

Exploration and Practice of Customized Agricultural Meteorological Service Based on Short Message Service

On the basis of the analysis of main problems existing in current agricultural meteorological service in China,for the purpose of exploring a solution to the "last kilometer" problem in rural meteorological service,this article designed four short message service products with the business brand name "meteorology for agricultural condition",including "weather prediction for farming season","weather forecast for farming","weather alert",and "meteorological hazards of agriculture".By taking advantage of telecom operators' market,these products have been spread to more than 1 million rural mobile phone users and widely welcomed.They also contributed enormously to disaster prevention and peasants' income growth,and achieved good social and economic benefits.

A Secure Short Message Communication Protocol

According to the security requirement of the short message service （SMS） industry application, a secure short message communication protocol is proposed. This is an application level protocol constructed on the standard SMS communication protocol using public key authentication and key agreement without the need of wireless public key infrastructure （WPKI）. Secure short message transmission and dynamic key agreement between mobile terminals and the accessing gateway axe realized. The security of the proposed protocol is validated through the BAN logic. Compared with the standard SMS protocol, the effective payload rate of our protocol can reach 91.4%, and subscriber identity module （SIM） tool kit （STK） applications based on our protocol suit well for all kinds of mobile terminals in practical application.

Design and Implementation of End to End Encrypted Short Message Service (SMS) Using Hybrid Cipher Algorithm

The study on design and implementation of end to end encrypted Short Message Service (SMS) using hybrid cipher algorithm is motivated by high rate of insecurity of data observed during Short Message Service (SMS) on Mobile devices. SMS messages are one of the popular ways of communication. The aim therefore is to design a software for end to end encryption short message service (SMS) that can conceal message while on transit to another mobile device using Hybrid Cipher Algorithm on Android Operating System and implement it for security of mobile SMS. Hybrid encryption incorporates a combination of asymmetric and symmetric encryption to benefit from the strengths of each form of encryption. Various encryption algorithms have been discussed. Secondary sources were employed in gathering useful data. In this research work three methodologies are employed—Structured System Analysis Design Methodology (SSADM), Object Oriented Analysis Design Methodology (OOADM) and prototyping. With the help of the three cryptographic algorithms employed—Message digest 5 (MD5), Blowfish and Rivest-Shamir Adleman (RSA);integrity, confidentiality, authentication and security of messages were achieved. The messages encrypted by developed application are also resistant to brute force attack. The implementing programs were coded in Java.

Punctuation as a sociolinguistic variable in text messages

The development of text messaging in cell phones has influenced punctuation variations in written language. In order to determine how text messaging has resulted in paradigm shift in the traditional uses of punctuation marks, this paper explores how punctuation marks vary with language, location, register and time, and how they are constantly evolving. The discussion in this paper is structured around Coupland＇s sociolinguistic theory. The findings reveal that new technology has impacted on the traditional uses of punctuation marks. Thus, the results show that the use of punctuation markers in Short Message Service （SMS） texts is complex. Moreover, the use of punctuation marks in Kenyan text messages reveals personal stylistic choices. However, it is apparent that Kenyan text messages are shaped by social variables.

Comparison of an SMS text messaging and phone reminder to improve attendance at a health promotion center:A randomized controlled trial

Objective: To compare the efficacy of a short messaging service (SMS) text messaging and phone reminder to im-prove attendance rates at a health promotion center. Methods: A total of 1 859 participants who had scheduled appointments in the health promotion center of our hospital from April 2007 to May 2007 were enrolled in the study and randomly assigned into 3 groups: control (no reminder) group,SMS text messaging reminder group and telephone reminder group. Attendance rates and costs of interventions were collected. Results: A total of 1848 participants were eligible for analysis. Attendance rates of control,SMS and telephone groups were 80.5%,87.5% and 88.3%,respectively. The attendance rates were significantly higher in SMS and telephone groups than that in the control group,with odds ratio 1.698,95% confidence interval 1.224 to 2.316,P=0.001 in the SMS group,and odds ratio 1.829,95% confidence interval 1.333 to 2.509,P<0.001 in the telephone group. However,there was no difference between the SMS group and the telephone group (P=0.670). The cost effectiveness analysis showed that the cost per attendance for the SMS group (0.31 Yuan) was significantly lower than that for the telephone group (0.48 Yuan). Conclusion: SMS and telephone are effective reminders for improving attendance rate at a health promotion center. SMS reminder may be more cost-effective compared with the telephone reminder.

北斗三号仅用作追踪的机载设备适航要求分析

随着北斗三号卫星导航系统服务正式开通,北斗二号相关适航标准已无法满足当前机载设备应用场景需求,严重制约了北斗在民航领域的应用进程,急需开展北斗三号相应标准的研究与制定。针对北斗在民用航空器中应用第1阶段“仅用作航空器追踪”,对北斗二号与北斗三号开展差异性分析,提出标准修订总体方案,综合考虑适航安全性、机载设备应用场景,结合工业实践,根据设备构型提出指标修订方案,形成审定要素及符合性方法建议,为设备研发与适航取证提供标准支持。仿真分析了设备天线增益、卫星可见性等关键参数,验证了所修订技术指标的正确性。

北斗三代短报文通信技术在配电网营销数据采集及费控停复电领域的应用

研究探讨了北斗三代短报文通信技术在高海拔地区的配电网营销数据采集及费控停复电领域中的应用效果。尽管目前该技术得到了广泛应用,但其在处理大规模递增数据时的性能尚未得到充分验证。因此,研究针对该技术在高海拔地区的系统设计和性能进行了实证评估。结果表明,在数据总字节从64字节增至409字节,理论传输时耗从10秒增至310秒的情况下,北斗短报文通信一体机的丢包数从1.3轻微上升到1.9,而且实际传输时耗的增长保持在合理范围内。这些发现表明,北斗三代短报文通信技术在提升工作效率、保障电力供应稳定性以及有效处理大规模数据传输任务方面具有显著优势。

配网设备局部放电边缘侧精简特征提取与短报文传输技术研究

电力设备内部潜伏性缺陷和故障可通过对局部放电的监测发现。目前随着电力设备尤其是配网设备数量的激增,海量的局部放电监测数据加剧了系统计算、传输和存储的负担。因此,本文基于无线传感网络架构提出了一种分布式感知网络,选用了远距离无线电作为主要传输手段,并构建了一种短报文传输机制以提升数据传输效率;其次,基于典型开关柜局部放电数据选取了原始特征集合,并采用变异数分析方法构建了一个8维度的精简特征集,通过边缘计算的方式实现数据特征提取与精简;最后,依次从识别准确率、传输密度、节点功耗以及运算量四个方面评估了网络的监测效能。本文解决了边缘侧和传输侧的关键问题,对于泛在电力物联网的建设提供了一定的技术参考。

基于北斗RDSS的船用海上定位设备关键技术研究

针对海上船舶的定位问题,利用北斗短报文装置的位置报告功能,通过对定位、通信模块的关键技术研究和实验,设计出一整套北斗实时定位及通信系统,实现了对渔船位置的监测和对遇险渔船救援的指挥。北斗短报文设备采用了北斗二号的导航定位,双向短信发送和定时功能。有效地解决了通信距离远,通讯费用高等问题。该系统具有实时性强,通讯频率高,定位精度高,实用性强,传输功率大等优点。

基于5G通信与北斗短报文的近海小型浮标通信系统设计方法

针对近海小型浮标仅采用单模方式与岸基进行通信的问题,提出一种北斗短报文与5G通信相结合的近海小型浮标通信系统设计方法。搭建浮标与岸基指挥所的通信链路,实现岸基指挥所与浮标之间的远程信息交互功能,其中浮标采集的水文气象等信息通过当前锚定区域的最优通信链路上传至岸基指挥所,岸基指挥所远程控制浮标完成相应任务。实验室模拟结果表明:在5G通信与北斗三号全球卫星导航系统技术支持下,本系统能够增强小型浮标在恶劣海况下的鲁棒性、提升数据传输的安全性以及提高通信质量。

基于北斗短报文的低功耗定位系统的设计

为解决传统定位系统功率损耗大,无法在脱机状态下长时间工作的问题,设计了一款基于硬件低功耗和软件“正常工作-休眠工作”双模式循环的定位系统。在硬件部分,该系统选用低功耗单片机STM32L431控制GPS定位模块CNS35和北斗短报文模块TM0558,并对供电电路实时采集。在软件部分,加入了“休眠工作”模式,实现与“正常工作”模式的循环切换。结果表明:该低功耗定位系统可实现定位误差低于2.5 m、通信成功率≥85%、双SIM卡切换等基本功能;且在单次循环为4 min的前提下,“正常工作2 min-休眠工作2 min”的工作方式将能量损耗降低至“正常工作4 min”方式的64.7%,续航时间延长了11.16 h。

基于北斗三号短报文的共视数据压缩传输方法

共视时间比对通过交换两地共视数据完成远距离高精度的时间比对。针对无地面通信网地区,本文提出了一种基于北斗短报文的共视数据压缩传输方法,该方法通过将共视数据进行压缩,利用北斗的短报文功能对压缩后的共视数据进行实时传输,在无地面通信网的地区进行了共视时间比对试验。试验结果表明,本文设计的共视数据压缩方法具有较好的压缩效果,可以通过北斗短报文实现无地面通信网的情况下的实时共视时间比对。
