To enhance the mechanical properties of molybdenum alloys at both room and high temperatures,Mo-14Re-1CeO_(2)alloy was synthesized using the powder metallurgy method, and the corresponding microstructure and mechanical properties were characterized. The results indicate that the ultimate tensile strength of Mo-14Re-1CeO_(2)reaches 657 MPa,with a total elongation of 35.2%,significantly higher than those of pure molybdenum(453 MPa,and 7.01%).Furthermore,the compression strength of Mo-14Re-1CeO_(2)at high temperature(1200℃)achieves 355 MPa,which is still larger than that of pure molybdenum(221 MPa).It is revealed that there is a coherent interface between CeO_(2)and the Mo-14Re matrix with CeO_(2)particles uniformly distributed in both intergranular and intragranular regions. The improvements in mechanical properties are primarily attributed to the formation of Mo-Re solid solution, grain refinement, and dispersion strengthening effect of CeO_(2). 展开更多

Metal oxide and carbide strengthening molybdenum(Mo)alloys have been designed as promising ad-vanced materials in refractory metals to solve some of the core engineering problems in superalloy ap-plications.Hence,there is a need to summarize the results obtained and evaluate the opportunities for preparing high-performance Mo alloys by strengthening metal oxides and carbides to improve the per-formance characteristics of Mo metal materials. This paper reviews the results of the reported work con-cerning the structure and properties of Mo alloys with different metal oxide and carbide strengthening methods added to Mo matrix. The influence of the doping of La 2 O 3 and Y 2 O 3 particles, ceramic Al 2 O 3 and ZrO 2 particles, and refractory TiC and ZrC carbides particles of Mo alloys are discussed. The impacts of particle morphology, size, distribution and volume fractions of oxide and carbide are analyzed,as well as the specific features of different doping techniques for obtaining high-performance Mo alloys mate-rials.This work will guide future research on the design of high-performance refractory Mo alloys by adding oxides and carbide particles, helping to solve the core issues in the field of superalloy application research. 展开更多

An FeMo-alloy-doped β-SiA1ON (FeMo/β-SiA1ON) composite was fabricated via a reaction-bonding method using raw materials of Si, Al2O3, A1N, FeMo, and Sm2O3. The effects of FeMo on the microstructure and mechanical properties of the composite were investi- gated. Some properties of the composite, including its bending strength at 700℃ and after oxidization at 700℃ for 24 h in air, thermal shock resistance and corrosion resistance to molten aluminum, were also evaluated. The results show that the density, toughness, bending strength, and thermal shock resistance of the composite are obviously improved with the addition of an FeMo alloy. In addition, other properties of the composite such as its high-temperature strength and oxidized strength are also improved by the addition of FeMo alloy, and its corrosion re- sistance to molten aluminum is maintained. These findings indicate that the developed FeMo/β-SiA1ON composite exhibits strong potential for application to molten aluminum environments. 展开更多

The synthetical soft magnetic properties were reported for newly-developed nanocrystalline Fe73.5Cu1Nb0.9 Mo2.1Si13.5B9 and Fe73.5Cu1Nb0.5 Mo2.5Si13.5B9 alloys. The levels of high-frequency losses of the new alloys are P3/100k=612 and 670 kWm-3, P2/200k=880 and 973kWm-3, P2/500k=4300 and 4600 kWm-3, P0.5/1000k=860 and 920 kWm-3, respectively. They are significantly lower than those of the superior power Mn-Zn ferrite H7c4. The dependence of core loss on frequency and amplitude flux density has been analyzed. The practical applications of the new alloys to switching mode power supplies with the output power of 1 and 2kW were reported. 展开更多

The high velocity oxy-fuel(HVOF) based thermal spray process has developed as a potential advantageous approach for fabricating various kinds of functional coatings. In this article, the coatings of Mo-based alloy were synthesized using the HVOF process. The microstructure and the mechanical properties of the HVOF-processed coatings were investigated using SEM,TEM,XRD,and hardness and wear tests.Annealing treatment was applied to the as-sprayed coatings to develop the microstructure and its effect on the microstructure and mechanical properties of the coatings was examined. It is found that the HVOF-processed Mo-based alloy coatings are comprised of an amorphous splat matrix embedded with nano-sized crystalline particles.Annealing at temperatures over 950 ℃ results into crystallization of the amorphous matrix. The mechanical properties of the as-sprayed coatings are enhanced with annealing temperature up to 750 ℃ and from 950 to 1050 ℃,keeps constant between 750 and 950 ℃,and reduce over 1050 ℃.The change of the mechanical property with the microstructure was illustrated in the study. 展开更多

Recently the automotive industry has been confronted with the phenomenon of delayed fracture. This phenomenon was not relevant in earlier years since the strength level of the steels was generally below a critical level. However, delayed fracture is not necessarily related to an absolute strength value but rather to microstructural features as well as pre-existing micro-damage in the material that are likely to occur in ultrahigh strength steels.Niobium microalloying in combination with appropriate processing can effectively help to improve the resistance against delayed fracturing in such steels. The paper outlines a strategy how to achieve this based on microstructural control and hydrogen trapping. 展开更多

The powder Ni35, as a filler powder, is used. The weld metal comes from three parts of stainless steel, powder Ni35, and Cu in W-Cu PMM. It is indicated that some parts of the W-Cu base metal are heated by laser and the metal Cu at the width of 0.06--0.12 mm from the edge is melted into the melting pool in the laser welding process. The formation of firm weld joint is just because that the melting liquid metal could fill the position occupied by metal Cu and surround the metal W granules fully. The analysis results indicate that the mechanism of the laser welding for stainless steel and W-Cu alloy is a special mode of fusion-brazing welding. 展开更多

About 80%of all molybdenum mined in the world(not including units recovered via recycling)is used as an alloying element in iron and steel. In general, the intensity of molybdenum use in China is still lower than in more highly developed regions such as the USA and Europe. This difference is manifest in both carbon steels and stainless steels, suggesting a significant opportunity for more widespread use of molybdenum in the future as China follows its self-reliance policy, calling for more sophisticated materials.Active market development,as being pursued by the International Molybdenum Association(IMOA),is a key asset in that respect. This article summarizes some key facts on molybdenum mining, use and market development in China. 展开更多

A novel method of liquid metallic film(LMF)bonding was developed to join titanium zirconium molybdenum alloy(TZM)and Nb-Zr alloy with a Ni interlayer.Using this method,a Ni-Zr liquid phase was formed by the eutectic reaction and then squeezed out from the gap due to a transient pressure, leaving an LMF.It not only achieved a reliable metallurgical bonding but also served as a transition layer between TZM and Nb-Zr alloy to reduce the mismatch between them thus further improving its performance. The bonding mechanism of the TZM and Nb-Zr system was discussed based on theoretical calculation and high-resolution microscopy analysis. The advantages of this method were established by comparing the microstructure and mechanical properties of LMF bonded joints with that of traditional contact-reaction brazing and direct diffusion bonding.Additionally, the feasibility of the LMF bonding method was also demonstrated by the reliable joining of other high-temperature and immiscible systems. 展开更多
