This paper presents a review of the state-of-the-art research and its applications developed at Hohai University relating to the hydrodynamic and morphological processes in the Yangtze Estuary. Longitudinal, lateral, and horizontal flow circulations have been revealed based on the measurements with acoustic Doppler current profilers (ADCP). The hydrodynamic mechanism at diversion points as well as the changing patterns of flow and sediment flux in the Yangtze Estuary has been investigated through long-term data analysis. A field survey has been carried out to detect the saltwater intrusion from the North Branch to South Branch. Different numerical models of flow motion, sediment transport, and saltwater intrusion have been developed to simulate the complicated processes and to evaluate the effects of engineering projects. The morphological processes of wetlands over a time scale of decades have been analyzed with an established database. Ideas for further research on the bio-geomorphological model system and long-term evolution mechanisms are put forward. 展开更多

Digital Image Processing(DIP)is a well-developed field in the biological sciences which involves classification and detection of tumour.In medical science,automatic brain tumor diagnosis is an important phase.Brain tumor detection is performed by Computer-Aided Diagnosis(CAD)systems.The human image creation is greatly achieved by an approach namely medical imaging which is exploited for medical and research purposes.Recently Automatic brain tumor detection from MRI images has become the emerging research area of medical research.Brain tumor diagnosis mainly performed for obtaining exact location,orientation and area of abnormal tissues.Cancer and edema regions inference from brain magnetic resonance imaging(MRI)information is considered to be great challenge due to brain tumors complex structure,blurred borders,besides exterior features like noise.The noise compassion is mainly reduced along with segmentation stability by suggesting efficient hybrid clustering method merged with morphological process for brain cancer segmentation.Combined form of Median Modified Wiener filter(CMMWF)is chiefly deployed for denoising,and morphological operations which in turn eliminate nonbrain tissue,efficiently dropping technique’s sensitivity to noise.The proposed system contains the main phases such as preprocessing,brain tumor extraction and post processing.Image segmentation is greatly achieved by presenting Intuitionist Possibilistic Fuzzy Clustering(IPFC)algorithm.The algorithm’s stability is greatly enhanced by this clustering along with clustering parameters sensitivity reduction.Then,the post processing of images are done through morphological operations along with Hybrid Median filtering(HMF)for attaining exact tumors representations.Additionally,suggested algorithm is substantiated by comparing with other existing segmentation algorithms.The outcomes reveal that suggested algorithm achieves improved outcomes pertaining to accuracy,sensitivity,specificity,and recall. 展开更多

It is difficult to acquire satisfied weld pool image by CCD sensor during gas metal arc welding( GMAW) , for arc disturbs violently, welding current is great and working frequency is high. By using CMOS vision sensor to GMA W process, the vivid weld pool image is collected at any time, furthermore, whose gray compression ratio is controllable by sensor hardware circuit developed. Acquired weld pool image is firstly pre-processed by using Wiener filter and Ostu threshold segmentation algorithm. Subsequently separation between weld pool image and cathode mist region is conducted by means of mathematical morphological algorithm, and the edge of weld pool image is extracted by using Prewitt algorithm. 展开更多

By means of scanning electron microscope(SEM)and high voltage electron microscope(HVEM)we have observed and analysed morphology and micro-structure of silicon oxide film with different thickness formed on(111)silicon monocrystal under dry oxygen atmosphere at 1100℃.Compared with their oxidation kinetic curves consisted of three stages,we suggested a mechanism on forming silicon oxide film.According to electron and X-ray diffraction analyses the silicon oxide films consisted of silica with different crystal structure.We also have discussed a stacking fault and a dislocation formed in the Si-Sio_2 interface region simulaneously forming silicon oxide film. 展开更多

The continuity equation and momentum equations forthe sediment now are given, in which the k-ε turbulence model is used. Wheat ear counting is a prerequisite for the evaluation of wheat yield.A wheat ear counting method based on frequency domain decomposition is proposed in this study to improve the accuracy of wheat yield estimation.The frequency domain decomposition of wheat ear image is completed by multiscale support value filter(MSVF)combined with improved sampled contourlet transform(ISCT).Support Vector Machine(SVM)is the classic classification and regression algorithm of machine learning.MSVF based on this has strong frequency domain filtering and generalization ability,which can effectively remove the complex background,while the multi-direction characteristics of ISCT enable it to represent the contour and texture information of wheat ears.In order to improve the level of wheat yield prediction,MSVF-ISCT method is used to decompose the ear image in multiscale and multi direction in frequency domain,reduce the interference of irrelevant information,and generate the sub-band image with more abundant information components of ear feature information.Then,the ear feature is extracted by morphological operation and maximum entropy threshold segmentation,and the skeleton thinning and corner detection algorithms are used to count the results.The number of wheat ears in the image can be accurately counted.Experiments show that compared with the traditional algorithms based on spatial domain,this method significantly improves the accuracy of wheat ear counting,which can provide guidance and application for the field of agricultural precision yield estimation. 展开更多

The crystallography and morphology of precipitate particles in a Cu matrix were studied using an aged Cu–Cr–Zr alloy by transmission electron microscopy(TEM) and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy(HRTEM). The tensile strength and electrical conductivity of this alloy after various aging processes were tested. The results show that two kinds of crystallographic structure associated with chromium-rich phases, fcc and bcc structure, exist in the peak-aging of the alloy. The orientation relationship between bcc Cr precipitate and the matrix exhibits Nishiyama–Wasserman orientation relationship. Two kinds of Zr-rich phases(Cu4Zr and Cu5Zr)can be identified and the habit plane is parallel to {111}Cu plane during the aging. The increase in strength is ascribed to the precipitation of Cr- and Zr-rich phase. 展开更多

Crystal morphology is known to be of great importance to the end-use properties of crystal products, and to affect down-stream processing such as filtration and drying. However, it has been previously regarded as too challenging to achieve automatic closed-loop control. Previous work has focused on controlling the crystal size distribution, where the size of a crystal is often defined as the diameter of a sphere that has the same volume as the crystal. This paper reviews the new advances in morphological population balance models for modelling and simulating the crystal shape distribution (CShD), measuring and estimating crystal facet growth kinetics, and two- and three-dimensional imaging for on-line characterisation of the crystal morphology and CShD. A framework is presented that integrates the various components to achieve the ultimate objective of model-based closed-loop control of the CShD. The knowledge gaps and challenges that require further research are also identified. 展开更多
