Environmental Design in the Context of Chinese Regional Culture

Environmental design plays a critical role in shaping human habitats.In the context of increasing homogenization of environmental aesthetics,the pervasive influence of the information age,and challenges in industry growth,the question arises:where does environmental design stand?This article delves into the development of the environmental design industry in view of China’s diverse regional cultural contexts.It analyzes the concepts and interconnections between China’s regional cultures and environmental design,identifies current issues,and proposes strategies for integrating China’s regional cultures into environmental design practices.This exploration provides valuable insights into the evolution of environmental design within the framework of China’s distinct regional cultural characteristics in the contemporary era.

Inheritance and Innovation of Regional Cultures in Architectural Designs of Yichang

Against the background of outstanding traditional Chinese culture and the innovation-drivendevelopment strategy, this study analyzed regional cultures of Yichang where ancient Ba and Chu culturesmet and blended, proposed regional architectural designs adapted to modern conditions, fully clarified thedesign concepts of “deeply exploring, highly condensing, making the past serve the present, inheriting andinnovating” through analyzing the design cases in many regional architectural projects. The paper aimedat further inheriting and developing the outstanding traditional Chinese cultures, and provided theoreticalreferences for future designs.

Contrast and Fusion: The Role of Regional Culture in Shaping Jiangsu Paper-Cut Art

The Chinese paper-cut art,first recorded in the Wei,Jin,and Southern and Northern Dynasties(220 AD-589 AD),has witnessed the changes of times,yet it still retains its artistic vitality.Chinese papercuts can be divided into two schools:the northern and the southern.Jiangsu,located in the region of the Yellow River and Huai River,is the geographical dividing line between those two schools.Therefore,in Jiangsu Province,not only the rough northern art form(such as in Xuzhou papercut)but also the graceful southern art form(such as in Jintan papercut)is evident.In addition,the unique combined paper-cut style(such as in Yangzhou and Nanjing papercuts)can be appreciated here.Although several scholars have analyzed the artistic characteristics of Jiangsu papercut based on cultural background,very few have discussed the differences between the northern and the southern in terms of content,connotation,and style.Through literature review and collected works made by local craftsmen and inheritors of this tradition,this article aims to show readers the contrast and integration of papercuts in these four places under the influence of different cultural and economic backgrounds in order to better understand the role of regional factors in shaping the art form of papercuts in Jiangsu Province.Nowadays,with the change in people’s lifestyles,the living space of traditional papercuts has shrunk drastically,and its practicability in the past has faded.Instead,people are searching for and creating cultural and artistic value in museums,tourist attractions,and commodity transactions.Among them,some works have deviated from the cultural background of traditional paper-cut art.Therefore,this paper provides a basis for the current development of this art form in Jiangsu.

Comparative Study of the Widal Test against Stool Culture in the Diagnosis of Suspected Cases of Typhoid Fever in Some Low Income Communities in the Adamawa Region of Cameroon

Introduction: Infectious diseases constitute a major concern of public health in developing countries. Facilities and well trained staff have been shown to be one of the major obstacles in the rapid and quality diagnosis of these diseases. As such, we carried out an analysis to compare the Widal test and stool culture to identify febrile patients with Salmonella infection. Method: A cross sectional study was conducted to diagnose salmonella infection with out-patients who demonstrated signs of salmonella infection. Serum was harvested from blood collected from 368 (Vina = 234, Mayo Banyo 65, and Djerem = 69) patients accompanied by stool, Widal test was conducted on the spot and stool was taken to a reference laboratory for culture using standard microbiological methods, sociological set up was calculated in percentages, prevalence was calculated using excel while statistical difference was calculated using SPSS. Sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value (PPV), and negative predictive value (NPV) were calculated to compare the Widal test against stool culture. Results: A total of 368 (50.8% females and 49.2% males) participants took part in the survey. Salmonella prevalence (66.24%) in stool culture in the Vina division was significantly different (p 0.05). The sensitivity,specificity, PPV, and NPV of slide agglutination test against stool culture varied from different areas (Vina: 51.6%, 73.62%, 79.21% and 43.61%;Mayo Banyo: 60.53%, 77.78%, 79.31% and 58.33%;Djerem: 53.18%, 83.73% 73.91% and 67.39%) respectively. Slide agglutination test has a fair agreement with the stool culture (kappa, Vina = 0.202;Mayo Banyo = 0.37 and Djerem = 0.38). Conclusion: Generally, in the three areas of study, the Widal test had a fair correlation with the stool culture;This means the Widal test should not be used alone but in combination with stool culture in the detection of salmonella infections.

Research on Narrative Design of Creative Products Based on Regional Cultural Elements

The research explored the ways and means of narrative design in which regional cultural elements are integrated into cultural and creative products.It also researched a new way of thinking and methods of creative product design based on regional cultural elements in order to satisfy consumers’emotional and cultural experiences.Narrative theory takes the perspective of narrative expression in the design of cultural and creative products.The regional cultural elements were used for better interactive communication with consumers in the form of cultural and creative products.In the narrative of cultural and creative product design,intervening in the development of regional cultural and creative design from the perspective of narratology can better exert and create the cultural value of the region itself,with cultural and creative products playing an important role in“local cultural stories.”This research adopted a qualitative approach and provided ideas and guidance for the narrative design and expression of regional cultural elements in creative products through comparative analysis of case studies.The research highlighted the role of narrative design in creating multi-layered experiences,weaving regional cultural stories into products,and the importance of deep understanding and effective use of regional cultural elements in design.

American Multinational Media and the Expansion of American Mass Culture

With the development of globalization and gradual intensification of mutual dependence of the world, "hard power" which includes economic and military strength is no longer the primary consideration for many countries. They tend to pay more attention to the attractiveness of their "soft power",which includes values,life style , ideology and so forth. Just as Joseph S. Ny , the famous professor of Harvard who puts forward the concept of soft power, says ,"only by widespread communication and diffusion can a country reinforces its soft power". This is mass media's function. Since the 1990s, tens of thousands cultural products brought in from America are exported to foreign countries, including popular music, films ,TV programs, magazines, books and so forth. By making advantage of its monopoly position in media circle, the United States pursues cultural hegemonism and expands its popular culture all over the world. This thesis takes a general view of the great advantages of America multi-national media groups and how they push forward the American popular culture all over the world.

Study on Regional Culture Inheritance in the Construction of Modern City Parks: A Case Study of Fule Mountain Park in Mianyang City, Sichuan Province

City park, as an everlasting cultural carrier, is an important place for the expression of regional culture. The concept and characteristics of regional culture are summarized, and regional culture inheritance carrier mainly includes land, garden style, garden building, etc. There are generally six methods: reservation, restoration, inheritance and development, extraction, reappearance, and creation. Taking Fule mountain Park in Mianyang City for example, combination of regional culture and landscape is analyzed.

Study on Dominant Expression of Regional Culture of the Qinling Mountains in Local Residential Buildings

Regional culture of the Qinling Mountains shows distinct features since it was born in the local outstanding ecological environment, study on local architecture is significant for the dominant expression of regional culture, protection of local environment, and echoing with the theme of ecological civilization construction. This paper, on the basis of the mutual infl uence and evolution of regional culture and style of local residential buildings, explored the reasons for the weakening of local architectural style, and specified the signifi cance of promoting local style of the living environment. By studying the infl uence of local natural environment and humanistic environment on architectural style along the northern foot of the Qinling Mountains, the paper explored the expression of regional culture in residential buildings, with Xian Garden(Xi'an Yuanzi) as an example, and aimed at giving useful help to the dominant expression of regional culture in modern residential buildings.

Landscape Design of East Dukang Road in Baishui County of Shaanxi Province Based on Regional Cultures

Components of urban road landscapes and regional cultures in the urban road landscape designs were analyzed. In view of the crisis that cities are confronting with, that is, lack of regional cultural features, landscape design for East Dukang Road in Baishui County, Shaanxi Province was taken for example, cultural background of the county, general situation and design orientation of the project, guiding concepts, overall designs and nodal layouts were elaborated, so as to explore the reasonable utilization of regional cultures in urban road landscape designs. Moreover, regional cultures were taken as an important foundation for landscape design, and its useful "genes" are available for creating road landscapes with features of regional cultures so as to demonstrate the individuality and characteristics of the city in a better way.

The Integration and Communication of Regional Culture in Canal Landscape Planning and Design:A Case Study of the Grand Canal in the Gaomin Temple Section of Yangzhou

The Grand Canal is the cultural source of Yangzhou's historical development. The heritage and development of the canal culture are conducive to enhancing the image of Yangzhou, building cultural brands, and enhancing core competitiveness. Taking the canal in the Gaomin Temple section of Yangzhou for example, this study was based on the regional canal culture and the humanistic characteristics of Gaomin Temple, and explored the unique cultural communication mode of the important landscape node of the canal. Through the analysis of the status and development of the landscape of the section, this study concluded corresponding cultural orientation content and direction, and analyzed the integration and communication ideas of regional culture in landscape planning and design, in order to provide a reference for the promotion of cultural brands in the canal city of Yangzhou.

Study on Multi-Scale Blending Initial Condition Perturbations for a Regional Ensemble Prediction System

An initial conditions （ICs） perturbation method was developed with the aim to improve an operational regional ensemble prediction system （REPS）. Three issues were identified and investigated： （1） the impacts of perturbation scale on the ensemble spread and forecast skill of the REPS; （2） the scale characteristic of the IC perturbations of the REPS; and （3） whether the REPS＇s skill could be improved by adding large-scale information to the IC perturbations. Numerical experiments were conducted to reveal the impact of perturbation scale on the ensemble spread and forecast skill. The scales of IC perturbations from the REPS and an operational global ensemble prediction system （GEPS） were analyzed. A ＂multi-scale blending＂ （MSB） IC perturbation scheme was developed, and the main findings can be summarized as follows： The growth rates of the ensemble spread of the REPS are sensitive to the scale of the IC perturbations; the ensemble forecast skills can benefit from large-scale perturbations; the global ensemble IC perturbations exhibit more power at larger scales, while the regional ensemble IC perturbations contain more power at smaller scales; the MSB method can generate IC perturbations by combining the small-scale component from the REPS and the large-scale component from the GEPS; the energy norm growth of the MSB-generated perturbations can be appropriate at all forecast lead times; and the MSB-based REPS shows higher skill than the original system, as determined by ensemble forecast verification.

Satellite Constellation Design with Multi-Objective Genetic Algorithm for Regional Terrestrial Satellite Network

Constellations design for regional terrestrial-satellite network can strengthen the coverage for incomplete terrestrial cellular network. In this paper, a regional satellite constellation design scheme with multiple feature points and multiple optimization indicators is proposed by comprehensively considering multi-objective optimization and genetic algorithm, and "the Belt and Road" model is presented in the way of dividing over 70 nations into three regular target areas. Following this, we formulate the optimization model and devise a multi-objective genetic algorithm suited for the regional area with the coverage rate under simulating, computing and determining. Meanwhile, the total number of satellites in the constellation is reduced by calculating the ratio of actual coverage of a single-orbit constellation and the area of targets. Moreover, the constellations' performances of the proposed scheme are investigated with the connection of C++ and Satellite Tool Kit(STK). Simulation results show that the designed satellite constellations can achieve a good coverage of the target areas.

Regional culture shows the personality of a city, the expression of regional culture in urban landscapes is the focus of modern urban landscape construction. By elaborating connotations of landscape furniture and regional culture, the ways of refining cultural connotations of city history, and expressing regional cultures in landscape furniture were explored to provide references for the expression of regional cultures in urban landscapes.

Composition of the Value of Tourism Creative Products under the Influence of Regional Culture

With the analysis of the influence of regional culture on the value of tourism creative products,the characteristics of the value of tourism creative products were studied,and the impact of regional culture on the composition and realization of the value was summarized. Thus, the general law of the influence of external factors on the product value could be drawn. Characteristics of the value of tourism creative products is contrasted to analyze the requirement motivation of consumers and to seek the ways of realization for products value with the influence of regional culture.The mathematical evaluation model was employed for evidence.Based on the model,the influencing factors of the value of different types of creative products were explored, which would provide theories and enlightenment for the co-creation and appreciation of creative products in the future.

Different regional cultures in modern China have their own characteristics while sharing some commonness,due to regional traits as well as common routes for development.Shanxi merchants’culture,as a typical representative of Chinese regional culture,reflects Chinese spirits,such as hard work,innovation and honesty and so on from the history of its development,change and cultural connotation,which reveals its macro commonness and micro characteristics.The essence of Shanxi merchants’culture can promote China’s economic development as the excellence of Chinese culture.

Relationship between the development of ethnic tourism and the protection for regional culture:a case study of Tuwa people

The innocent Tuwa people live in Kanas Lake, a world famous national reserve in northern Xinjiang. With therapid development of tourism today, Tuwa people are finally involved in tourism industry. The development of tourismis a two-edged sword. On the one hand, it boosts the revival of Tuwa culture, provides a large number of employmentopportunities and cross-cultural exchanges, and improves material welfare for Tuwa people. On the other hand, somedisadvantages have also resulted from tourism development, such as the unauthentic exhibition of Tuwa culture, limitedtourists, Tuwa group interaction, and limited material improvement for the Tuwa, etc. This paper takes Tuwa people asa case, illustrates the types, characteristics and the conditions for the development of Tuwa culture, explores the advan-tages and disadvantages resulting from the development of folk-custom tourism industry and then puts forwardsrecommendations on the protection for local cultures as follows: (1) attach great importance to Tuwa culture in thetourism development of Kanas Lake Visitor Attraction; (2) construct the aboriginal village with the consciousness ofprotection; (3) remove the Tuwa village; (4) consummate the management mode and let Tuwa people really benefit fromtourism; (5) restrict the grazing in the scenic spots and protect natural grassland; (6) promote Tuwa people’s ability ofself-supervision and self-management; (7) exhibit Tuwa culture authentically.

Luzhou Cultural Tourism Landscape Design under the Background of Regional Culture

With the gradual recovery of local economy after the epidemic,restarting the development of tourist attractions and promoting regional characteristic tourism projects have become an inevitable choice to drive the rapid development of local economy.Nowadays,with the obvious convergence of tourist attractions,how to highlight local cultural characteristics,show cultural features,and inherit the spirit of regional culture has become an important issue that has to be considered.In this article,under the guidance of regional cultural theory,according to the regional characteristics of Luzhou culture,the types of local culture with regional characteristics were introduced,and the general problems of Luzhou cultural tourism landscape were analyzed.Meanwhile,the design strategies of Luzhou cultural tourism landscape under the background of regional culture were discussed to provide ideas and reference for Luzhou cultural tourism landscape design in the future.

Rooting Regional Characteristic Culture and Cultivating Students Design Consciousness:Taking the Teaching Reform of Architectural Landscape Design as an Example

China has a vast territory and numerous ethnic groups,forming various regional cultures with different styles.However,the architectural design education in colleges and universities of China used to learn from the West,and there is homogeneity in teaching mode,teaching content,and curriculum system construction,lacking regional cultural characteristics.In the context of regional culture,combined with the cultivation of students'innovation ability,the teaching of the course of Architectural Landscape Design is discussed in this article,in order to promote the inheritance and development of regional culture in landscape design teaching and promote students to truly understand the artistry and practicality of regional cultural resources.

Design Strategies of Cultural and Creative Products Based on Regional Culture

Based on the characteristics of regional culture,the application strategies of regional cultural elements in the design of cultural and creative products were analyzed.The aim is to effectively combine cultural and creative design with regional cultural elements to provide contemporary life with regional cultural and creative products,better serve modern needs,and enhance public awareness in the form of aesthetics.Firstly,the research status of regional culture and cultural and creative product design was summarized,and then the relationship between regional culture and product design was discussed from the aspects of appearance,material and craftsmanship.Afterwards,the value of regional cultural and creative product design was proposed,and the general strategies of regional cultural and creative products were further sorted out to make people feel the pleasure brought by the deep and strong regional culture.
