A suitable filter is first used to remove all the sharp power spectrum peaks of the noisy observed process, then some kinds of cross correlation is employed to identify the noise characteristics. After filtering the noisy observed process with the identified noise characteristics again, SVD-TLS method can be applied to retrieve the harmonics. The proposed approach can be used to retrieve real-valued harmonic signals in colored ARMA noise with no restrictions on the phase coupling of harmonics and the distribution of the noise. A hybrid ESPRIT approach using second-and third-order statistics is proposed. First, third-order statistics are used to identify the AR part of the non-Gaussian noise process, then the noisy measurements are filtered by AR polynomial, finally, the harmonic signal parameters are estimated. Ice thickness detection is important to offshore exploration and marine transport in winter. Synthetic aperture radar (SAR) can be used to acquire sea ice data in all weather conditions, and it is a useful tool for monitoring sea ice conditions. In this paper, we combine a multi-layered sea ice electromagnetic (EM) scattering model with a sea ice thermodynamic model to assess the determination of the thickness of flat thin ice in the Bohai Sea using SAR at different frequencies, polarization, and incidence angles. Our modeling studies suggest that co-polarization backscattering coefficients and the co-polarized ratio can be used to retrieve the thickness of flat thin ice from C- and X-band SAR, while the co-polarized correlation coefficient can be used to retrieve flat thin ice thickness from L-, C-, and X-band SAR. Importantly, small or moderate incidence angles should be chosen to avoid the effect of speckle noise.展开更多

A procedure revealing the joint eigenstructure by simultaneous diagonalization of. A with simultaneous Schur decomposition (SSD) and balance procedure alternately is proposed for performance considerations and also for overcoming the convergence difficulties of previous methods based only on simultaneous Schur form and unitary transformations, it is shown that the SSD procedure can be well incorporated with the balancing algorithm in a pingpong manner, i. e., each optimizes a cost function and at the same time serves as an acceleration procedure for the other. Under mild assumptions, the convergence of the two cost functions alternately optimized, i. e., the norm of A and the norm of the left-lower part of A is proved. Numerical experiments are conducted in a multi-dimensional harmonic retrieval application and suggest that the presented method converges considerably faster than the methods based on only unitary transformation for matrices which are not near to normality.展开更多
