Nanometer crystal samarium borate with a particle size of 20~40?nm was prepared using replacing solvent drying technique. The wear resistance and load carrying capacity of 500SN base oil could be improved and the friction coefficient could be decreased by the addition of nanometer samarium borate. But the dosage of samarium borate nanoparticles had to be controlled at a relatively low level, a higher concentration of nanoparticles was not of beneficial to the tribological performance of the oil. The optimal dosage of nanometer samarium borate is 1.0%. Tribochemical reactions took place in the tribological process, which resulted in the formation of deposition products including diboron trioxide and disamarium trioxide. Fe 2B and FeB were also found on the wear scar. The improvement of tribological properties of the oil comes from the formation of deposition layer and permeating layer. [ 展开更多

The nanometer yellow iron oxide was prepared by oxidizing Fe(OH)2 with air, which was verified with XRD and TEM. The result shows that nanometer yellow iron oxide is spindle-shaped and well-distributed with a long axis of 150-200 nm and short axis of 40-50 nm. Ultraviolet (UV) transmittance of the iron oxide shows the great effect of concentration on both transparency and UV ab- sorption, and it has been proven that iron oxide with a concentration of 0.025wt% is preferred. The spectrum of XRD indicates that it is goethite. When the yellow iron is dispersed in sol, given that the wavelength of UV is less than 300 nm, its UV absorption capacity is superior to those of ZnO and TiO2. The absorption capacity of the yellow iron is less than TiO2 and more than ZnO as the wavelength of UV is 300-400 nm. 展开更多

Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and physics-chemical phase analysis were employed to investigate the precipitates in high strength steels microalloyed with Ti produced by compact strip production (CSP). It was seen that precipitates in Ti microalloyed steels mainly included TiN, Ti4C2S2, and TiC. The size of TiN particles varied from 50 to 500 nm, and they could precipitate during or before soaking. The Ti4C2S2 with the size of 40-100 nm might precipitate before rolling, and the TiC particles with the size of 5-50 nm precipitated heterogeneously. High Ti content would lead to the presence of bigger TiC particles that precipitated in austenite, and by contrast, TiC particles that precipitated in ferrite and the transformation of austenite to ferrite was smaller. They were less than 30 nm and mainly responsible for precipitate strengthening. It should be noted that the TiC particles in higher Ti content were generally smaller than those in the steel with a lower Ti content. 展开更多

The effect of non-Gaussian colored noise(NGN),mainly its departure q from the Gaussian noise,on the optimal ISRO of CO oxidation on nanometer-sized Pd particles was studied. It was found that the ISRO in the absence of external noise can still be enhanced when the NGN is applied.Specifically, the ISRO varies with changing q and becomes more regular at an appropriate q value, and when q is optimal, the ISRO becomes the most regular.Because the departure q from the Gaussian noise determines the probability distribution function and hence may denote the types of noise, this result shows that different types of external noise can enhance the ISRO of CO oxidation, and non-Gaussian noise may enhance the ISRO more greatly than the Gaussian noise.Therefore,non-Gaussian noise could play more effective roles in the catalytic process of CO oxidation on nanometer-sized Pd particles. 展开更多

Different-sized aerosols were collected by an Andersen air sampler to observe the detailed morphology of the black carbon (BC) aerosols which were separated chemically from the other accompanying aerosols, using a Scanning Electron Microscope equipped with an Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectrometer (SEM-EDX). The results indicate that most BC aerosols are spherical particles of about 50 nm in diameter and with a homogeneous surface. Results also show that these particles aggregate with other aerosols or with themselves to form larger agglomerates in the micrometer range. The shape of these 50-nm BC spherical particles was found to be very similar to that of BC particles released from petroleum-powered vehicular internal combustion engines. These spherical BC particles were shown to be different from the previously reported fullerenes found using Matrix-Assisted Laser Desorption/Ionization Time-Of-Flight Mass Spectrometry (MALDI-TOF-MS). 展开更多
