This paper shows that the second generation can take advantage of their dual but conflicting cultural heritages to develop a renewed and specific cultural identity.展开更多

During this process, researcher's teacher identity is awakened when facing challenges and puzzles and transforms later. From observation, journal reflections, and conversation with the partner, this thesis elicits that a good teacher has a power of connectness, teaches as telling a story and teaches who we are, which provides insight into how a student teacher think, reflect and take actions especially for those who are dedicated to teaching profession and are striving to the goal. More to the point, this thesis reveals that learning to teach is a highly complicated process and needs enough courage to teach.展开更多

The findings show that her productive construction of the third space is marked by a transformation from a reticent student to an open thought sharer and her claim of a legitimate ownership of using English as a global language. A split is exposed between her newly acquired English rhetorical conventions and her deeply rooted perceptions in the Chinese context. It is suggested by the study that EFL learners be provided greater opportunities to explore language as both a linguistic system and a sociocultural practice where they can exercise their agency and expand the range of identities.展开更多

Economic relations in this world without time or history and without production of goods and commodities, are based on ancient practices such as barter. The goods are exchanged for goods according to the need and the currency lost its meaning before the supreme usefulness. Essential items to human life like water now have a very high value due to its complete scarcity. Eli (played by Denzel Washington) toured the United States for 30 years westward circling the wasteland leading the only existing copy of the King James version of the Bible. Then he reaches the town, which is under the control of Carnegie, the villain, whose ambition is to have the holy Bible in order to exercise power. In this world full of shortages, power belongs to the old that has the memory of the past. Texts of Giddens, Beck, Lash, Benveniste, and Marx compose the theoretical apparatus that allow understanding how to reconstruct the identity in a world in crisis, and no shortage of complete story without memory card with the movement of goods excluding currency.展开更多

By tracing a group of students for four years in a Chinese university and conducting qualitative analyses to their oral narrations of learning experiences at different periods, the study has found that most participants started and ended their university life at relatively high levels of agency, with inevitable ups and downs in between. Agency fluctuations in the learners are the result of their identity positioning and repositioning within a complex and ever-changing context. Concordant or conflicting identities may co-exist within an individual learner and keep changing across different situations. Learner identities will cause increase or reduction in their investment in English learning, while their learning experience will in turn reinforce or undermine their identities. The study sheds light on the intricate relationships between agency, identity and language learning and therefore has important implications for English learning and teaching in China.展开更多

Methods: We compared 3 ap-proaches: 1) a standard needs assessment questionnaire, the Camberwell assessment of need in the elderly, 2) an open-ended listing of needs, and 3) participation in a narrative medicine program in which health care professionals were involved. Results: On the questionnaire, patients reported physical needs as the most important while their caregivers were more concerned about psychological needs. The open-ended listings revealed additional needs, particularly access to re-liable information about PD and to opportunities to participate in clinical research. The narrative medicine process yielded a number of new insights and proposed solutions, particularly related to the heterogeneity of needs across individuals, the importance of providing hope, and the fact that caregivers expressed that their needs had been largely neglected. Participation in the narrative medicine sessions led to an increase in measured empathy by health care professionals, an im-provement in measured depression among PD patients, but a worsening of measured depression among the caregivers. Conclusions: We have identified important needs and potential solutions to be considered in providing long-term support to patients with PD and their caregivers.展开更多

The unification of gravitational and electromagnetic fields in curved space-time starts from the Bianchi identity, which is well known as a mathematical generalization of the gravitational equation, and by using the existing gauge symmetry condition, equations for the gravitational and electromagnetic fields can be obtained. In particular, the homogeneous Maxwell’s equation can be obtained from the first Bianchi identity, and the inhomogeneous Maxwell’s equation can be obtained from the second Bianchi identity by using Killing’s equation condition of the curved space-time. This paper demonstrates that gravitational and electromagnetic fields can be derived from one equation without contradiction even in curved space-time, thus proving that the 4-dimensional metric tensor using the gauge used for this unification is more complete. In addition, geodesic equations can also be derived in the form of coordinate transformation, showing that they are consistent with the existing equations, and as a result, they are consistent with the existing physical equations.展开更多

文摘This paper deals with the generalization of the linear theory of the unification of gravitational and electromagnetic fields using 4-dimensional gauge symmetry in order to solve the contradictions from the Kaluza-Klein theory’s unification of the gravitational and electromagnetic fields. In addition, geodesic equations can also be derived in the form of coordinate transformation, showing that they are consistent with the existing equations, and as a result, they are consistent with the existing physical equations.
