The instability of p-channel low-temperature polycrystalline silicon thin film transistors(poly-Si TFTs)is investigated under negative gate bias stress(NBS)in this work.Firstly,a series of negative bias stress experiments is performed, the significant degradation behaviors in current-voltage characteristics are observed. As the stress voltage decreases from-25 V to-37 V,the threshold voltage and the sub-threshold swing each show a continuous shift, which is induced by gate oxide trapped charges or interface state.Furthermore, low frequency noise(LFN)values in poly-Si TFTs are measured before and after negative bias stress. The flat-band voltage spectral density is extracted, and the trap concentration located near the Si/SiO2 interface is also calculated. Finally, the degradation mechanism is discussed based on the current-voltage and LFN results in poly-Si TFTs under NBS,finding out that Si-OH bonds may be broken and form Si*and negative charge OH-under negative bias stress, which is demonstrated by the proposed negative charge generation model. 展开更多

A cost-effective method was designed to measure the behavioral response of negative phototaxis to high-intensity illumination in the sea urchin Glyptocidaris crenularis. Ninety sea urchins were randomly and equally divided into two aquaculture environment groups: a fasted group, which was starved during the experiment, and a fed group. After 10 months, the total mortality of each group was recorded. Then, 15 sea urchins were randomly selected from each group and behavioral responses to high-intensity illumination were investigated for each sea urchin. After the behavioral experiment, body measurements of the trial sea urchins were taken. The results reveal that food deprivation significantly affected test diameter (P〈0.01), body weight (P〈0.01), gonad weight (P〈0.0I), and gut weight (P〈0.01). Furthermore, food deprivation also affected negative phototaxis behaviors of time to rapid spine movement (P〈0.01), time to the 1 cm position (P〈0.05), and walking distance in 300 s (P〈0.01), but not time to body reaction (P〉0.05). The mortality rates of fasted and fed urchins were 6.7% and 0%, respectively. The present study provides evidence that food deprivation has a significant effect on phenotypic traits and behavioral responses to high-intensity illumination in the sea urchin G. crenularis. With this method, environmental stressors can be easily detected by measuring proper optional indicators. This study provides a new insight into measuring stress responses of sea urchins in aquaculture. However, further studies should be carried out to understand more environmental factors and to compare this potential behavioral method with immune, physiological, and epidemiological approaches. 展开更多

The negative gate bias stress(NBS)reliability of n-type polycrystalline silicon(poly-Si)thin-film transistors(TFTs)with a distinct defective grain boundary(GB)in the channel is investigated. Results show that conventional NBS degradation with negative shift of the transfer curves is absent. The on-state current is decreased, but the subthreshold characteristics are not affected. The gate bias dependence of the drain leakage current at V_(ds)of 5.0 V is suppressed, whereas the drain leakage current at V_(ds)of 0.1 V exhibits obvious gate bias dependence. As confirmed via TCAD simulation, the corresponding mechanisms are proposed to be trap state generation in the GB region,positive-charge local formation in the gate oxide near the source and drain, and trap state introduction in the gate oxide. 展开更多

This paper studies negative bias temperature instability (NBTI) under alternant and alternating current (AC) stress. Under alternant stress, the degradation smaller than that of single negative stress is obtained. The smaller degradation is resulted from the recovery of positive stress. There are two reasons for the recovery. One is the passivation of H dangling bonds, and another is the detrapping of charges trapped in the oxide. Under different frequencies of AC stress, the parameters all show regular degradation, and also smaller than that of the direct current stress. The higher the frequency is, the smaller the degradation becomes. As the negative stress time is too small under higher frequency, the deeper defects are hard to be filled in. Therefore, the detrapping of oxide charges is easy to occur under positive bias and the degradation is smaller with higher frequency. 展开更多

A new type of degradation phenomena featured with increased subthreshold swing and threshold voltage after negative gate bias stress(NBS)is observed for amorphous InGaZnO(a-IGZO)thin-film transistors(TFTs),which can recover in a short time. After comparing with the degradation phenomena under negative bias illumination stress(NBIS),positive bias stress(PBS),and positive bias illumination stress(PBIS),degradation mechanisms under NBS is proposed to be the generation of singly charged oxygen vacancies(V_(o)^(+))in addition to the commonly reported doubly charged oxygen vacancies(V_(o)^(2+)).Furthermore,the NBS degradation phenomena can only be observed when the transfer curves after NBS are measured from the negative gate bias to the positive gate bias direction due to the fast recovery of V_(o)^(+)under positive gate bias. The proposed degradation mechanisms are verified by TCAD simulation. 展开更多

Unloading induces negative excess porewater pressure in soil mass around a foundation pit during excavation. In this work, the dissipation rule of negative excess porewater pressure after excavation was studied. Analytical formulas for calculating the negative excess porewater pressures and the effective stresses were derived based on one-dimensional consolidation theory and Terzaghi’s effective stress principle. The influence of the dissipation of negative excess porewater pressure on earth pressure inside and outside a foundation pit and the stability of the retaining structure were analyzed through a numerical example. It was indicated that the dissipation of negative excess porewater pressure is harmful to the stability of the retaining structure and that rapid construction can make full use of the negative porewater pressure. 展开更多

Orthopedic bone plates are most commonly used for bone fracture fixation for more than 100 years. The bone plate design had evolved over time overcoming many challenges such as insufficient strength and excessive plate–bone contact affecting the blood circulation. However,it is only made of two materials, either stainless steel(AISI 316L)or titanium(Ti–6Al–4V).There are two main limitations of metallic bone implants, namely stress shielding and the problem of malocclusion caused by the displacement of the fracture site during healing. To overcome the two problems,a new bone plate design with the incorporation of auxetic structures is proposed in this work. This study aims to use auxetic structure section in the bone plate that would decrease the stiffness of the region, thereby mitigating the stress-shielding effect and at the same time act as a deformable section to enable intra-operative bending for effective alignment while having enough bending strength and stiffness. Two different auxetic structures namely re-entrant honeycomb and missing rib structures were considered. The auxetic structure incorporated bone plates were designed, finite element analysis was done, fabricated using direct metal laser sintering technique, and tested. The results indicate that the re-entrant honeycomb structure incorporated bone plates serve as an effective bone design compared to the conventional bone plate design,in terms of stress shielding and intra-operative bending while offering similar mechanical and bending strength. 展开更多

Abnormal expression of long interspersed element-1(LINE-1)has been implicated in drug resistance, while our previous study showed that chemotherapy drug paclitaxel(PTX)increased LINE-1 level with unknown mechanism.Bioinformatics analysis suggested the regulation of LINE-1 mRNA by drug-induced stress granules(SGs).This study aimed to explore whether and how SGs are involved in drug-induced LINE-1 increase and thereby promotes drug resistance of triple negative breast cancer(TNBC)cells. We demonstrated that SGs increased LINE-1 expression by recruiting and stabilizing LINE-1 mRNA under drug stress, thereby adapting TNBC cells to chemotherapy drugs.Moreover,LINE-1 inhibitor efavirenz(EFV)could inhibit drug-induced SG to destabilize LINE-1.Our study provides the first evidence of the regulation of LINE-1 by SGs that could be an important survival mechanism for cancer cells exposed to chemotherapy drugs. The findings provide a useful clue for developing new chemotherapeutic strategies against TNBCs. 展开更多

Stress voltages on time-dependent breakdown characteristics of GaN MIS-HEMTs during negative gate bias stress (with VGS < 0, VD = VS = 0) and off-state stress (VG < VTh, VDS > 0, VS = 0) are investigated. For negative bias stress, the breakdown time distribution (β) decreases with the increasing negative gate voltage, while β is larger for higher drain voltage at off-state stress. Two humps in the time-dependent gate leakage occurred under both breakdown conditions, which can be ascribed to the dielectric breakdown triggered earlier and followed by the GaN layer breakdown. Combining the electric distribution from simulation and long-term monitoring of electric parameter, the peak electric fields under the gate edges at source and drain sides are confirmed as the main formation locations for per-location paths during negative gate voltage stress and off-state stress, respectively. 展开更多

Married female adolescents are the most vulnerable people that culturally marry with their parents’ permission in Iran. This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of stress inoculation training (SIT) on cognitive emotional regulation (CER) in these women. The method of this research was semi-experiment with pretest and posttest. The statistical society was the married adolescent female students from Qom high schools (80 people). First, they were assessed by cognitive emotional regulation questionnaire to find the subjects under the CER cut of point (55 people). Then 30 participants were randomly selected and were equally divided into experimental and control groups. The entry criteria for samples were female married students between 17 and 19 from low socioeconomic income. The experimental group received 8 sessions of SIT training while there was no intervention for control group. Results from MANCOVA analysis showed that there were significant differences between groups on cognitive emotional regulation in post-test. The data of pretest were the covariate factor. Finding suggests SIT is effective for cognitive emotional regulation in vulnerable married female adolescents. In addition, this training method elevates positive emotional strategies, which correlate with planning, focusing and organizing the emotions. In contrast, except self and the others blaming, negative emotional strategies differed slightly. 展开更多

The evolution and the origin of“solid-like state”in molten polymer/clay nanocomposites are studied.Usingpolypropylene/clay hybrid(PPCH)with sufficient maleic anhydride modified PP(PP-MA)as compatibilizer, well exfoliationyet solid-like state was achieved after annealing in molten state.Comprehensive linear viscoelasticity and non-lineartheological behaviors together with WAXD and TEM are studied on PPCH at various dispersion stages focusing on time, temperature and deformation dependencies of the“solid-like”state in molten nanocomposites.Based on these,it is revealedthat the solid-structure is developed gradually along with annealing through the stages of inter-layer expansion by PP-MA,the diffusion and association of exfoliated silicate platelets, the formation of band/chain structure and, finally,a percolatedclay associated network, which is responsible for the melt rigidity or solid-like state. The network will be broken down bymelt frozen/crystallization and weakened at large shear or strong flow and, even more surprisingly, may be disrupted by usingtrace amount of silane coupling agent which may block the edge interaction of platelets. The solid-like structure causescharacteristic non-linear rheological behaviors,e.g.residual stress after step shear, abnormal huge stress overshoots in stepflows and, most remarkably, the negative first normal stress functions in steady shear or step flows. The rheological andstructural arguments challenge the existing models of strengthened entangled polymer network by tethered polymer chainsconnecting clay particles or by chains in confined melts or frictional interaction among tactoids.A scheme of percolatednetworking of associated clay platelets, which may in band form of edge connecting exfoliated platelets,is suggested toexplain previous experimental results. 展开更多

However, the knowledge on this area is relatively sparse. The present study aims to investigate the prevalence of exposure to potentially traumatizing and negative life events and the occurrence of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) among a specific sample of Indian adolescents. Method: A sample of 411 Indian 9th graders, (M = 14.15 years) from two private schools in Pune City answered a questionnaire about 1) socio-demographical background and 2) the direct or indirect exposure to 20 specific, potentially traumatizing and negative life events. Also, they filled out Part IV of the Harvard Trauma Questionnaire (HTQ-IV) to assess their level of PTSD-symptoms. Results: 70% of the females and 85% of the males had been exposed to or witnessed at least one traumatizing or negative life event. The mean number of experienced events was 2.5. The most common events were: death of someone close, traffic accidents, serious illness, witnessing the injury or killing of others, and coming close to being injured or killed. The prevalence of PTSD was 10%. Males reported higher direct as well as indirect exposure than females to all events, while no significant gender difference was found in the prevalence of PTSD. Living in a single-parent household meant increased risk of developing PTSD. Conclusion: Exposure to potentially traumatizing events was comparable to that seen in similar studies in Western European youth samples. Prevalence of PTSD was also in the same range. This may be attributable to a number of protective factors associated with the specific sample. Males were exposed to more potentially traumatizing events than females, but contradictory to most other studies, no gender difference in prevalence of PTSD was seen. These differences in comparison to earlier studies might reflect cultural and national circumstances that distinguish this Indian sample from Western European countries previously investigated. 展开更多

Background: Little is known about post-traumatic stress (PTSD) prevalence rates in community samples. This is especially true for the African continent where child-soldiers, HIV/AIDS affected and orphans have been the target for PTSD prevalence studies. Objectives: The aim of this study is to investigate the indirect and direct exposure to 20 potentially traumatic events and its relation with PTSD in a Ugandan sample of senior 3rd year students and to perform cross-cultural comparisons with previous studies examining this age group. Socio-economic status, coping styles, negative affect, and somatization are further examined. Method: A convenience sample of 408 senior secondary school students, from eight schools, across three major towns, Kampala, Mbarara, and Jinja, were selected. The Harvard Trauma Questionnaire (HTQ) was used to establish PTSD prevalence rates, The Coping Style Questionnaire (CSQ) was used to assess coping styles, and the Trauma Symptom Checklist (TSC) were used to measure negative affect and somatization. Results: The subjects had been exposed to a mean of 6.6 direct events and a mean of 7.2 indirect events. The estimated prevalence rate of PTSD was 37.7% and a further 28.2% reached a subclinical level, missing one symptom to have the full diagnosis. Variables related to a PTSD diagnosis were female gender, number of directly experienced events, emotional coping, negative affect, and somatization. Conclusions: Ugandan youth have been exposed to significantly more potentially traumatic events and negative life events than European youth, and subsequently PTSD prevalence rates are higher. In addition, fewer gender differences are found in the Ugandan sample compared to the European samples. 展开更多

Studies of possible variables influencing development of posttraumatic stress (PTSD) are of great importance in the effort to enhance preventive and interventional methods in the aim to prevail this devastating condition. Despite the vast research in adults, little is still known of adolescents. Although research is scarce, attachment style has been identified to be an influencing factor in adults, and still research in adolescent is almost non-existent. To our knowledge, no prior study has been conducted, looking at the relationship between attachment style, exposure to a broad range of potentially traumatic events, and subsequent PTSD symptoms in a cross cultural perspective. This is the aim of the present study. Procedure: Data was collected from questionnaire surveys of 1283 adolescents (mean age 14.1 years). Measures: PTSD was measured with The Harvard Trauma Questionnaire-Part IV (HTQ);and attachment style was studied using the Revised Adult Attachment Scale (RAAS). Potentially traumatic events were examined using a broad event list of 19 events. Results: Contrary to what was expected, significant cross cultural differences were found in the distribution of securely, preoccupied, and dismissive attached. Around half of the Faroese population was securely attached, contrary to the Danish and Icelandic population, where the majority was dismissive attached. Cross cultural differences were also found in the distribution of attachment style among those adolescents with PTSD. The majority of the Danish adolescent population with PTSD was dismissive attached;the majority of the Faroese adolescent population with PTSD was securely attached, and in the Icelandic adolescents with PTSD were distributed somewhat even between the four attachment styles. Finally, cross cultural differences were identified in which potentially traumatic events had a significant contribution to the variation in PTSD. The results are discussed and clinical recommendations are presented. 展开更多

The aim of this study was to confirm if there was a correlation between trait mindfulness, negative mood states, and stress. Our study is based on the assumption that practicing mindfulness did have the efficacy and ability to regulate negative emotions and thoughts produced by negativity-inducing external stimuli.A hundred and fifteen individuals(M age=32.17 years,SD=8.21,59 males and 56 females)mostly from Beijing and Shanghai completed a series of measures, which included the Five-Facet Mindfulness Questionnaire(FFMQ),the Profile of Mood States-Brief Questionnaire(POMS-B),and the Stress Self-Perception Scale. After analyzing the collected data with SPSS 22.0,results showed that trait mindfulness has a significant relation with both negative mood states and stress, the relation being negative mood states and stress having a negative correlation to mindfulness and vice versa. This study verified the ability of mindfulness to stabilize and regulate negative emotions like depression and indicated the importance of practicing mindfulness as a way to cope with negativity-inducing stimuli and associated thoughts and emotions.Limitations and future research directions are discussed. 展开更多

Although both protein arginine methylation(PRMT)and jasmonate(JA)signaling are crucial for regulating plant development, the relationship between these processes in the control of spikelet development remains unclear. In this study,we used the CRISPR/Cas9 technology to generate two OsPRMT6a loss-of-function mutants that exhibit various abnormal spikelet structures.Interestingly,we found that OsPRMT6a can methylate arginine residues in JA signal repressors OsJAZ1 and OsJAZ7.We showed that arginine methylation of OsJAZ1 enhances the binding affinity of OsJAZ1 with the JA receptors OsCOI1a and OsCOI1b in the presence of JAs,thereby promoting the ubiquitination of OsJAZ1 by the SCF^(OsCOI1a/OsCOI1b) complex and degradation via the 26S proteasome. This process ultimately releases OsMYC2,a core transcriptional regulator in the JA signaling pathway,to activate or repress JA-responsive genes, thereby maintaining normal plant(spikelet)development. However,in the osprmt6a-1 mutant, reduced arginine methylation of OsJAZ1 impaires the interaction between OsJAZ1 and OsCOI1a/OsCOI1b in the presence of JAs.As a result,OsJAZ1 proteins become more stable, repressing JA responses, thus causing the formation of abnormal spikelet structures. Moreover,we discovered that JA signaling reduces the OsPRMT6a mRNA level in an OsMYC2-dependent manner, thereby establishing a negative feedback loop to balance JA signaling. We further found that OsPRMT6a-mediated arginine methylation of OsJAZ1 likely serves as a switch to tune JA signaling to maintain normal spikelet development under harsh environmental conditions such as high temperatures.Collectively, our study establishes a direct molecular link between arginine methylation and JA signaling in rice. 展开更多

Auxetic metamaterials, which exhibit the negative Poisson’s ratio(NPR)effect, have found wide applications in many engineering fields. However, their high porosity inevitably weakens their bearing capacity and impact resistance. To improve the energy absorption efficiency of auxetic honeycombs,a novel vertex-based hierarchical star-shaped honeycomb(VSH)is designed by replacing each vertex in the classical star-shaped honeycomb(SSH)with a newly added self-similar sub-cell.An analytical model is built to investigate the Young’s modulus of VSH,which shows good agreement with experimental results and numerical simulations. The in-plane dynamic crushing behaviors of VSH at three different crushing velocities are investigated, and empirical formulas for the densification strain and plateau stress are deduced.Numerical results reveal more stable deformation modes for VSH,attributed to the addition of self-similar star-shaped sub-cells.Moreover,compared with SSH under the same relative densities,VSH exhibits better specific energy absorption and higher plateau stresses. Therefore,VSH is verified to be a better candidate for energy absorption while maintaining the auxetic effect. This study is expected to provide a new design strategy for auxetic honeycombs. 展开更多

Due to native character of thermal expansion coefficient(CTE)mismatch between C_(f)/SiC and GH3536,achieving high strength joint was a huge challenge for C_(f)/SiC-GH3536 joints.Herein,a composite filler metal of Ag-Cu-Ti+Sc_(2)(WO_(4))_(3) was developed to join C_(f)/SiC and GH3536.This work introduced Sc_(2)(WO_(4))_(3) to Ag-Cu-Ti system as a negative thermal expansion(NTE)reinforcing phase to release joint residual stress.Sc_(2)(WO_(4))_(3) was evenly distributed in the brazing seam and reacted with Ti to form Ti_(3)O_(5) reaction layer. The results of finite element analysis showed that the residual stress of the joints was effectively released by introducing Sc_(2)(WO_(4))_(3) reinforcing phase, and the mises stress was decreased from447 to 401 MPa.The maximum shear strength of the C_(f)/SiC-GH3536 joint brazed with Ag-Cu-Ti+6 vol%Sc_(2)(WO_(4))_(3) filler alloys was 64 MPa,which was about 2.6 times higher than that of Ag-Cu-Ti alloys. The results of this study provide a promising strategy for the introduction of new Sc_(2)(WO_(4))_(3) reinforcing phase in Ag-Cu-Ti system, and improve the reliability and feasibility of composite brazing alloy in brazing filed. 展开更多
