Study on Cultural Landscape Designs for New Campuses—A Case Study of Cultural Landscape Design on Campus of Chongqing University of Technology

Connotations and functions of campus cultural landscapes were elaborated,and campus cultural landscapes were believed to have continuity of culture,subtle educational and encouraging effects on teachers and students.Environment characteristics,construction conditions and cultural landscapes of Huaxi Campus of Chongqing University of Technology were analyzed.On this basis,cultural landscape planning of new campuses was studied,and it was stressed that group functions should be taken as the foundation to highlight spirits and style of the university,and demonstrate characteristics of its disciplines.In this way,campus designs concern more about users,enable students to live and study in a healthy environment,and are able to inherit campus cultures.The study was to improve the present construction of Huaxi Campus,make up deficiencies in the construction of campus cultural landscapes,and enhance campus spirits and comprehensive strength of the university.

The paper aims to reveal the relationship between The Virginian and its historical context by applying the doctrines of New Historicism： historicity of texts and textuality of history. By historicity of texts, it points out that the work is the emblem of disappearance of western frontier, and it symbolizes the union of the Wild West and the civilized east. By textuality of history, it detects the change of social class, the development of livestock industry and railway, and their influence on the work at the later part of 19th century.

Sites to Remember： Performing the Landscape in Cultural History

This paper aims to compare and contrast two site-specific performance productions, both designed to grapple with processes of cultural remembrance, whilst also operating as successful tourist attractions. The narratives encompassed by both productions revolve around shared Australian histories, for audiences attracted by place and what it is able to represent. Re-enactments of past events call into the present a consideration of what still remains, with both shows enabling new subjective interpretations of earlier times. The defining difference between the two, however, rests in the context of each performance, in the one case as a commodification of heritage and in the other case as the desire to produce an artistic yet popular theatrical product. Ballarat＇s, Sovereign Hill＇s light and sound show, Blood on the Southern Cross celebrates and commemorates, in mega-spectacle style, the Eureka Stockade, one of Australia＇s key historical events. Using a mechanised display of the original goldmining site of the Eureka rebellion, the performance is operated by computers with video-projection, multi-phonic sound, and moving model forms, with audiences moved around the massive site on transporters. The Piccolo Tales, a contrasting performance most notably in terms of size, unfolds the history of Kings Cross, through its setting in the miniscule iconic Piccolo Bar, in one of the tiny side streets of Sydney＇s bustling and densest suburb. This paper encompasses an investigation of how the cultural inscriptions of the two specific sites interweave with the performance styles, materials, political and social positioning of the works. Previous performance studies examining site-specificity are utilised, including the author＇s analysis of particular festival performances as ＂place-making＂ （Hayes, 2012, 2013）. Smith＇s （2009） model of ＂signposts＂ is used to consider acting within site-specific productions in a new light, whilst both performances are more completely analysed through Schneider＇s （2011） concept of incomplete pasts forming ＂cycles of memory＂.

The New Media Engine for Promoting Chinese Cultural Diffusion： A Case Study of＂Confucius Institute Online＂

As a developing Non-profit Organization （NPO） system for the learning and diffusion of Chinese language and culture around the globe, the Confucius Institute network is becoming more and more important for China＇s presence and influence in a diversified arena of world cultures. While this network is being enlarged and improved with the Chinese govemment＇s persistent backing, it is, however, recognized that the influence and efficiency of the institutes are still limited. It might not be essential whether people come primarily as serious language learners, but necessarily, the platform has to be attractive enough for a considerable proportion of users to stick on, making the Confucius Institute System a sustainable cultural service provider. Within the background of information society, the Intemet, mobile service, digital broadcasting, and other types of new media would act as an important effort to help Confucius Institutes to improve the capabilities of interacting with users, offering users with abundant media-rich content, and minimizing users＇ inconvenience by enhancing users＇ experience, lowering travel and time cost, and easily providing multi-lingual support. In this paper, we take the platform of Confucius Institute Online （http：//www.chinese.cn, the official Intemet portal of the Confucius Institute network） as a case of actuality to analyze how the Confucius Institute system could utilize the communication capability of new media to enrich, enlarge, and enhance the diffusion of Chinese culture and language. Advantages and deficiencies of the planning, design, and layout of the portal＇s functionality and views are presented, upon which a number of strategic suggestions are raised, for the sake of further improvement of Confucius Institute＇s efficiency in cultural diffusion and sustainable development.

This paper reviews the translation process of Michael Meyer’s Response to Modernity-A History of the Reform Movement in Judaism. As the translator of this book, the author points out the problems confronted in the course of translation from the lexical, phrasal, sentential, and textual levels, meanwhile provides the corresponding translating strategies to solve these difficulties. The cultural strategy bridges the gap between the original work and the target language readers while the textual approach enhances the readability of the translated version. Discovery and characterization of a new hydrothermal field at 2°N on the slow-spreading Carlsberg Ridge

A new hydrothermal field(Tianshi)was discovered on the rift valley wall through plume anomaly surveys and geological work conducted in 2012 and 2018 between 2°35′N and 2°43′N of the slow-spreading Carlsberg Ridge(CR).Here,the results of two expeditions conducted to detect and characterize the new hydrothermal field are reported.Mineralogical and geochemical data,as well as 14 C ages of a sediment core collected near the field are presented to reveal the hydrothermal history.Results show that the Tianshi field is a basalt-hosted hydrothermal system.Geochemical data of the sediments collected near the field indicate a strong hydrothermal contribution,and hydrothermal Fe and Cu fluxes range from 30 to 155 mg/(cm^(2)·ka)and 0.59 to 11.49 mg/(cm^(2)·ka),respectively.Temporal variations in the fluxes of hydrothermal Fe indicate that there have been at least three amplified hydrothermal venting events(H 1,H 2,and H 3)in the Tianshi field over the last 35.2 ka,in 28.6-35.2 ka BP,22.0-27.6 ka BP,and 1.2-11.4 ka BP,respectively.Hydrothermal event H 2 was driven by an increased magmatic production associated with sea level fall during the Last Glacial Maximum,while event H 3 was promoted by tectonic activity associated with a rapid sea level rise.This study further verified the role of sea level change in modulating hydrothermal activity on mid-ocean ridges.

Research on Cultural Consumption of Urban Elderly Groups Under the Multimodal “New Media+”-Illustrated by the Example of Shanghai

In recent years,the provision of high-quality elderly care services for an ageing society has become more important in China’s social developments.As an indispensable part of the process,meeting the spiritual life needs of the elderly groups has received increasing attention.Taking Shanghai,an international metropolis with diverse forms of cultural consumption and high cultural consumption demand,as an example,this paper examines the modalities of combining coffee culture with cultural consumption of middle and old age groups,taking coffee consumption of old age groups as a research object and finding that:Firstly,coffee consumption combined with new media presents multimodal coffee consumption,which promotes the multi-level popularity of coffee culture.Secondly,coffee consumption can meet the spiritual needs of Shanghai middle-aged and elderly groups such as socialization and the inheritance of coffee culture to a certain extent.The cultural consumption of coffee consumption provides an important reference for the international elderly care service in Shanghai.
