New record of the feather star Palaeocomatella hiwia(Echinodermata:Crinoidea:Comatulida)from Zhenbei Seamount in South China Sea:new insights into the taxonomic position of Palaeocomatella

One specimen belonging to the family Comatellinae was collected from the Zhenbei Seamount(332.5–478.2 m)in the South China Sea in July 2022.Based on the morphological characters,the specimen was identified as Palaeocomatella hiwia McKnight,1977.It is first recorded from China Sea and redescribed in detail.This specimen differs from the original description from New Zealand for never showing syzygy at br4+5 or br5+6 on interior and br1+2 on exterior arms.However,it is much conform to the redescription to specimens from Indonesia,with only differences in position of the second syzygy and distalmost pinnule comb.Specimen is deposited in the Institute of Oceanology,Chinese Academy of Sciences.Phylogenetic analyses based on the mitochondrial c oxidase subunit I(COI)and 16S rRNA genes indicated that P.hiwia was nested within the tribe Phanogeniini and clustered with Aphanocomaster pulcher.Furthermore,P.hiwia showed same morphological features in terms of mouth placement,comb location,and number of comb teeth rows as other genera of Phanogeniini.Therefore,we suggest that the genus Palaeocomatella should be put in the tribe Phanogeniini.

Taxonomy notes on Vandeae(Orchidaceae)from China:Five new species and two new records

Five new species(Gastrochilus yei,Gastrochilus minimus,Luisia simaoensis,Taeniophyllum xizangense,Tuberolabium subulatum)and two newly recorded species(Cleisostoma tricornutum,Luisia inconspicua)of Vandeae(Orchidaceae)from China are described and illustrated.Gastrochilus yei is similar to G.affinis and G.nepalensis,but differs from them by having an epichile not lobed,the apex of the hypochile not bilobed,and a tine on the apex of the leaf.Gastrochilus minimus is similar to G.acinacifolius,but can be distinguished from the latter by having a flabellate epichile that is densely hirsute on the adaxial surface and an inconspicuous central cushion;in addition,the hypochile of G.minimus has a keel that extends to the apex of the epichile.Taeniophyllum xizangense is similar to T.stella and T.radiatum,but it is distinguished from them by having much bigger flowers,inflorescences densely covered with short-bristly hairs,papillae on the external surface of sepals,and bigger triangular-ovate viscidium.Luisia simaoensis is similar to L magniflora and L ramosii,but can be easily distinguished from them by having lateral sepals longer than dorsal sepals and petals,lip with irregular and waved margins,and lip with bilobed apex.Luisia inconspicua is moved from Gastrochilus to Luisia based on phylogenetic analyses of plastid matK sequence data.Tuberolabium subulatum is similar to T.camosum,but it can be easily distinguished from the latter by having an inflorescence much shorter than the leaves,yellow sepals and petals,and many small papillae outside the lip lobes.

A New Record of Acanthodactylus cantoris(Sauria: Lacertidae) and Its Comparison with Closely Related A. blanfordi in Southeastern Iran

A new record of Acanthodactylus cantoris from Sistan and Baluchistan in southeastern Iran is presented in this paper,and this lizard is found occurring in the coastal area of the Persian Gulf from Govater to Chabahar. This species is mainly sympatric with A. blanfordi,and their habits and habitats support their close relationship within the cantoris group. In total,29 specimens of A. cantoris(n = 12) and A. blanfordi(n = 17) were compared morphologically using statistical methods. The occurrence of A. cantoris in Iran has been questioned for a long time by different herpetologists,and the distribution,ecology and taxonomy of this newly recorded species were investigated and provided in this paper. An updated identification key for the species of Acanthodactylus in Iran is given.

A new species of Zanclognatha Lederer and three new records of the families Erebidae and Noctuidae(Lepidoptera,Noctuoidea)from Korea,with notes on larval feeding habits

A new species of Zanclognatha Lederer,1857 of the family Erebidae,Z.querciella sp.n.,one species of Family Erebidea,Asota egens(Walker,1854)and two species of Family Noctuidae:Meganephria retinea Gyulai and Ronkay,1999 and Amphipyra subrigua Bremer and Grey,1853,are reported for the first time from Korea.In addition,larval feeding habits with their host plants for three species are newly recognized from Korea.Illustration of adults,larvae for Zanclognatha querciella and Meganephria retinea,and the genitalia of male or female for all species are provided.

Five new records of Xanthidae(Crustacea:Brachyura)from Hainan Island,China

Five new records of the family Xanthidae are reported from China:Hypocolpus haanii Rathbun,1909,Neoliomera variolosa(A.Milne-Edwards,1873),Leptodius australis Ward,1936,L.davaoensis Ward,1941,and Xanthias joanneae Mendoza,2013.The specimens were collected from Hainan Island and deposited in the Marine Biological Museum,Chinese Academy of Sciences.Diagnosis based on observation,photographs,line drawings,and some taxonomic discussions are provided.

Description of a new record species of Heterodera from China(Tylenchida,Heteroderidae)

A new record species Heterodera ripae was found in the rhizosphere soil of nettle(Urtica sp.)on the bank of the Mangniu River in Shenyang City,Liaoning Province,China.The new record species can be characterized by vulval cone bifenestrate with circular or subcircular semifenestrae,vulval slit length averaging 34.2μm,vulval bridge mostly broad,underbridge weak,bullae absent;the second-stage larvae stylet knobs rather wide and slightly projecting anteriorly,tail length averaging 43.7μm and hyaline region length averaging 22.3μm.

A New Record of Orchidaceae from Guangxi:Galeola nudifolia Lour.

This paper reported a new record of Orchidaceae from Guangxi,Galeola nudifolia Lour.This species was previously known from Hainan Province and Yunnan Province of China,India,Myanmar,Vietnam,Thailand,Malaysia,Indonesia and the Philippines.The new Orchidaceae record has broken the record of only one species of the genus Galeola Lour.in Guangxi,and it filled the gap in the northern part of the original distribution area,and proved that the species in general is in a continuous distribution state.The new Orchidaceae record in Guangxi is of great significance to the study of the distribution pattern and geographical origin of the species.

Six Thallus Surface Types of Coralline Algae with Descriptions of Two New Records of Amphiroa beauvoisii and Neogoniolithon setchellii in Sanya reef,China

Coralline algae are globally distributed calcifying species and play critical ecological roles to marine ecosystems by contributing significantly to their structural complexity and diversity.Thallus surface types of historical samples in Sanya coral reef reserve were studied based on the scanning electron microscope(SEM)method.Our results show six thallus surface types within the study area:Corallina-type,Jania-type,Leptophytum-type,Phymatolithon-type,Pneophyllum-type,and Spongites-type.The Phymatolithon-type is the dominant surface type in Sanya reefs.Two new record species in the region are described:Amphiroa beauvoisii and Neogoniolithon setchellii.Although thallus surface types provide useful diagnostics characters for distinguishing coralline algae at tribe or subfamily level,species identification needs to refer to the reproductive features.This is the first surface study of coralline algae in the South China Sea.This result provides the baseline data needed for the monitoring and management of reef-building organisms of coral reef in China.

New record of luminescent Mycena chlorophos(Mycenaceae)from Western Ghats of India

An interesting luminescent Mycena was collected from dead bamboo culms on several occasions from an evergreen forest in Kerala State,India.Detailed morphological and molecular studies with nrITS sequence data confirmed it as Mycena chlorophos.A reappraisal of the species along with comprehensive description,photographs and a discussion with related species is provided.This forms the first record of this species from India.

New record of Chalastospora gossypii from cold arid soil of the most isolated region in trans-Himalayas

A psychrotolerant hyphomycete Chalastospora gossypii was recovered from cold arid soil of Zanskar valley(3,500 msl),which is the most isolated region located in the trans-Himalayas that presents extreme environmental challenges for biotic system including microfungi.Complete description and illustration of the fungus based on morphology and rRNA gene sequences in ITS regions are provided.The report represents a new record in Indian sub-continent and reflects the ability of the reported fungus to thrive in extreme habitats of Indian sub-continent thus representing a new addition to cold desert as well as Indian mycoflora.

New Records for GASTROPODA Class of Species Found in the Rocky Intertidal Zone of the Marine Priority Region 32,Guerrero,Mexico

The GASTROPODA class, one of the best known marine environments, is formed by a large number of species and the shape of their shell structure varies greatly. These mollusks are distributed from the intertidal zone all the way to the abyssal zone, and there are also swimming and floating species. This research was conducted at seven sites, located in the Marina Priority Region 32 (MPR 32), located in the State of Guerrero, Mexico. The aim of this report is to document the scope of the geographic distribution of the 34 species of GASTROPODA class. 11,263 total specimens were analyzed. 108 species were identified, of which four species are new records for Mexico, 15 for the Transitional Mexican Pacific, 11 for the State of Guerrero and four for the MPR 32. Here we report a significant number of new records of species of class GASTROPODA found on the rocky intertidal zone of the MPR 32. The reporting of these new records, demonstrates the need to focus research efforts on the study of marine diversity, since knowledge in this respect is quite incomplete, especially regarding marine mollusks, a fact that has been reported by the National Commission for the Management and Use of Biodiversity.

New Record of Lycodon liuchengchaoi in Anhui

One juvenile and one adult female wolf snake(Colubridae: Lycodon) were sampled at Yixian and Fuxi, Huangshan, Anhui, China in the summer of 2011 and 2012, respectively. The two specimens were identified as Lycodon liuchengchaoi based on external morphology and molecular data. This is a new reptile record in Anhui Province. In our laboratory, four eggs were laid and three neonates were hatched successfully. This is the first record of the laying and incubation of L. liuchengchaoi eggs. The five specimens were deposited at the Museum of Huangshan University(HUM20140001) and Guangdong Entomological Institute(HB-lcfsp12613, HB-lcfsp-ch1~3).

A new record of a flathead fish (Teleostei: Platycephalidae) from China based on morphological characters and DNA barcoding

A new record of Platycephalus sp.1 (sensu Nakabo, 2002) was documented based on morphological characters and DNA barcoding. We collected 174 specimens of the genus Platycephalus from Chinese coastal waters of Dongying, Qingdao, Zhoushan, and Beihai. Samples were identified as Platycephalus sp.1 morphologically. The coloration, meristic traits, and morphometric measurements are consistent with previously published records. In brief, it is an orange-brown flathead fish with dark brown spots scattered on head and body, lateral line scales 83 to 99 with one or two spine-bearing anteriormost pored scale, no yellow blotch on the caudal fin. Cytochrome oxidase I subunit (COI) gene fragments were sequenced for phylogenetic analysis. The mean evolutionary distance within the species Platycephalus sp.1 was 0.1%. Net evolutionary distances between Platycephalus sp.1 and other species of Platycephalus ranged from 10.8% to 19.7%, which is much greater than the threshold for species delimitation. The COI sequence analysis strongly supports the validity of Platyceohalus sp.1 at genetic level.
