The composition and morphology of precursor were characterized by XRD, SEM, IR and DTA/TGA analyses. The results show that the chemical composition and morphology of precursor precipitates at pH=8.4?8.8 are different from those of precursor precipitates at pH=6.0, and the mechanisms of the thermal decomposition of the precursors are different. The effects of various conditions in the process of thermal decomposition, including precursor morphology, atmosphere, temperature and time on the morphology and dispersion degree of obtained nickel powders were studied in detail. The final product inherits the morphology of precursor when the thermal decomposition is conducted under a weakly reducing atmosphere at temperature range of 400?440 °C for 30 min. Fibrous nickel powder can be produced with good dispersion, and its shape changes from smooth, straight and compact fiber into loose and curved fiber with rough surface.展开更多

The products were investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), laser particle size analyzer and X-ray powder diffraction (XRD). The results indicate that the type, dosage and relative molecular mass of surfactants significantly impact the purity, dispersion property, particle size, size distribution and morphology of the products. The nonionic surfactants poly ethylene glycol (PEG) and polyethylene glycol sorbitan monostearate (Tween) showed better dispersing ability in the reaction system than the others. The optimal mass ratios of surfactant to Ni are 100 mg/g and 150 mg/g for PEG-600 and Tween-40, respectively. The products obtained in the optimal conditions have ideal morphology and narrow size distribution. Moreover, study on the relative molecular mass effect revealed that with the increase of the relative molecular mass of Tween, the morphology of nickel powders changed from sphere to spiny ball.展开更多

The fine grain of ceramic powders and base metal nickel are necessary. This paper uses reducing hydrazine to gain submicron nickel powder whose diameter was 200-300 nm through adjusting the consumption of nucleating agent PVP properly. The submicron nickel powder could disperse well and was fit for co--fired of multilayer chip PTCR. It analyes the submicron nickel powder through x-ray Diffraction (XRD) and calculates the diameter of nickel by PDF cards. Using XRD analyses it obtains several conclusions: If the molar ratio of hydrazine hydrate and nickel sulfate is kept to be a constant, when enlarging the molar ratio of NaOH/Ni^2+, the diameter of nickel powder would become smaller. When the temperature in the experiment raises to 70-80 ℃, nickel powder becomes smaller too. And if the molar ratio of NaOH/Ni2+ is 4, when molar ratio of (C2H5O)2/Ni^2+ increases, the diameter of nickel would reduce. Results from viewing the powders by optical microscope should be the fact that the electrode made by submicron nickel powder has a better formation and compactness. Furthermore, the sheet resistance testing shows that the electrode made by submicron nickel is smaller than that made by micron nickel.展开更多

Ultrafine nickel powders with submicron size and spherical shape were synthesized by the hydrazine reduction of nickel sulfate in ethanol-water solvent. The effects of reaction temperature, nucleator and flow rate of nickel sulfate solution on nickel powders properties were investigated. The nickel particles synthesized were characterized by SEM and TGA. The results show that the average particle size changes from 0.1 to 0.7 μm by adjusting reaction temperature (53- 73 ℃) and flow rate of nickel sulfate solution (50- 100 mL/min). Moreover, temperature below 60 ℃ and appropriate flow rate of nickel sulfate solution (85 mL/min) are in favor of obtaining particles with high tap density (>3.0 g/cm3). In addition, the introduction of nucleator is useful to obtaining particles with narrow size distribution.展开更多

The mechanism of the formation of metallic Ni powders experiences the reduction of nickel hydroxide by hydrazine released from the ligand exchange reaction between nickel hydrazine complex and NaOH. In comparison with the method of preparing Ni powders from nickel salts, the method of making Ni powders via the reduction of nickel hydrazine complex precursors shows the advantages of using half dosage of hydrazine for complete reduction of nickel ions in solution, and the obtained Ni particles show less agglomeration and better dispersibility. Moreover, the average particle size of nickel powders can be controlled from 180 to 260 nm by adjusting the reaction molar ratio and concentration.展开更多

The effect of cooling rate on cooling γ precipitation and the development of γ precipitates during cooling process were involved in this study. The ultimate tensile strength (ErrS) of the specimens in various cooling circumstances was tested. The experiential equations were obtained between the average sizes of secondary and tertiary γ precipitates, the strength, and cooling rate. The results show that they are inversely correlated with the cooling rate as well as the grain boundary changes from serrated to straight, the shape of secondary γ precipitates changes from irregular cuboidal to spherical, while the formed tertiary γ precipitates are always spherical. The interrupted cooling tests show that the average size of secondary γ precipitates increases as a linear function of interrupt temperature for a fixed cooling rate of 24℃/min. The strength first decreases and then increases against interrupt temperature, which is fundamentally caused by the multistage nucleation of γ precipitates during cooling process.展开更多

The morphology, microstructure, size distribution, and phase transformation of the powders were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), laser scattering for particle size analysis, X-ray diffraction (XRD), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). After cryomilling for 20 h, the average grain size of the as-milled powders approached a constant value of 30 nm by XRD measurement. The average particle size slightly increased from 17.5 to 20.3 μm during the 20-h milling. About 90vol% of the powders satisfied the requirement for thermal spraying with the particle dimension of 10-50 μm, and most of the powders exhibited spherical morphology, which were expected to have good fluidity during thermal spraying.
