Unsteady Hydromagnetic Non-Newtonian Nanofluid Flow Past a Porous Stretching Sheet in the Presence of Variable Magnetic Field and Chemical Reaction

The aim of this study is to examine the unsteady hydromagnetic flow of non-Newtonian nanofluid past a stretching sheet in the presence of variable magnetic field and chemical reaction. The system of non-linear partial differential equations governing the flow was solved using finite difference numerical approximation method. The resulting numerical schemes were simulated in MATLAB software. Furthermore, the skin-friction coefficient, Sherwood number, and Nusselt number have been presented in tabular form and discussed. The findings demonstrated that increasing Reynolds number increases velocity profiles while increasing permeability parameter, suction parameter and angle of inclination for the applied magnetic field reduces the velocity profiles of the fluid flow. Temperature of the fluid increases as the angle of inclination, magnetic number, Reynolds number and Eckert number increase but decreases as Prandtl number increases. Induced magnetic field profiles decrease as magnetic Prandtl number and suction parameter increase. Concentration profiles decrease as the chemical reaction parameter and Schmidt number increase but increase as the Soret number increases. The study is significant because fluid flow and heat transfer mechanisms with the variable magnetic considerations play an important role in magnetohydrodynamic generator or dynamo and magnetohydrodynamic pumps, nuclear reactors, vehicle thermal control, heat exchangers, cancer therapy, wound treatment and hyperthermia. 展开更多

In this work, an analytical study is carried out on double-diffusive natural convection through a horizontal anisotropic porous layer saturated with a non-Newtonian fluid by using the Darcy model with the Boussinesq approximations. The horizontal walls of the system are subject to vertical uniform fluxes of heat and mass, whereas the vertical walls are assumed to be adiabatic and impermeable. The Soret effect is taken into consideration. 目的探讨非高密度脂蛋白胆固醇(NonHDL-C)、甘油三酯葡萄糖指数(TyG指数)及残余脂蛋白胆固醇(RC)水平与急性冠脉综合征(ACS)冠状动脉血管病变严重程度的相关性。方法选取我院收治的147例经PCI术治疗的ACS患者作为研究对象。收集患者的... 目的探讨非高密度脂蛋白胆固醇(NonHDL-C)、甘油三酯葡萄糖指数(TyG指数)及残余脂蛋白胆固醇(RC)水平与急性冠脉综合征(ACS)冠状动脉血管病变严重程度的相关性。方法选取我院收治的147例经PCI术治疗的ACS患者作为研究对象。收集患者的基线资料,并使用Gensini评分评估冠状动脉病变的严重程度。依据Gensini评分,将患者分轻度组(4≤Gensini评分≤16,n=52)和中重度组(Gensini评分>16,n=95)。采用多因素Logistic回归分析确定ACS患者血管病变严重程度的独立危险因素。采用Spearman相关分析评估RC、NonHDL-C和TyG指数水平与Gensini评分的相关性,并通过ROC曲线评估RC、TyG指数及NonHDL-C水平对ACS患者血管病变严重程度的预测价值。结果中重度组与轻度组相比,NonHDL-C、RC和TyG指数水平均显著增加(P<0.05)。多因素Logistic回归分析结果显示,RC(OR=7.673,P=0.012)、TyG指数(OR=2.537,P=0.013)和NonHDL-C(OR=2.144,P=0.001)水平是ACS患者冠状动脉病变严重程度的独立危险因素。RC、TyG指数、NonHDL-C水平的AUC为0.653、0.671、0.711。TyG指数与NonHDL-C水平的联合AUC为0.739。Spearman相关分析结果显示:Gensini评分与TyG指数、RC和NonHDL-C水平呈正相关(P<0.05)。结论RC、TyG指数和NonHDL-C的水平升高可能是ACS患者冠状动脉病变严重程度的危险因素,并对日后的血管病变严重程度有一定的预测价值。 展开更多

A non-isothermal injection molding process for a non-Newtonian viscous pseudoplastic fluid is simulated.A conservative interface capturing technique and the flow field solving method are coupled to perform a dynamic simulation.The validity of the numerical method is verified by a benchmark problem.The melt interface evolution versus time is captured and the physical quantities such as temperature,velocity and pressure at each time step are obtained with corresponding analysis.A"frozen skin"layer with the thickness increasing versus time during the injection process is found.The fact that the"frozen skin"layer can be reduced by increasing the injection velocity is numerically verified.The fountain flow phenomenon near the melt interface is also captured.Moreover,comparisons with the non-isothermal Newtonian case show that the curvatures of the interface arcs and the pressure contours near the horizontal mid-line of the cavity for the non-Newtonian pseudoplastic case is larger than that for the Newtonian case.The velocity profiles are different at different positions for the non-Newtonian pseudoplastic case,while in the case of Newtonian flow the velocity profiles are parabolic and almost the same at different positions. 展开更多

This paper describes the application of a three-dimensional lattice Boltzmann method (LBM) to Newtonian and non-Newtonian (Bingham fluid in this work) flows with free surfaces. A mass tracking algorithm was incorporated to capture the free surface, whereas Papanastasiou's modified model was used for Bingham fluids. The lattice Boltzmann method was first validated using two benchmarks: Newtonian flow through a square cross-section tube and Bingham flow through a circular cross-section tube. Afterward, the dam-break problem for the Newtonian fluid and the slump test for Bingham fluid were simulated to validate the free-surface-capturing algorithm. The numerical results were in good agreement with analytical results, as well as other simulations, thereby proving the validity and correctness of the current method. The proposed method is a promising substitute for time-consuming and costly physical experiments to solve problems encountered in geotechnical and geological engineering, such as the surge and debris flow induced by a landslide or earthquake. 展开更多

The pulsatile blood flow through an anatomically realistic model of the abdominal aorta and renal arteries reconstructed from CT-scan images is simulated, which incorporates the fluid-structure interaction (FSI). In addition to the investigation of the RAS effects on the wall shear stress and the displacement of the vessel wall, it is determined that the RAS leads to decrease in the renal mass flow. The effect of chemical reaction on free convection heat and mass transfer for a non-Newtonian power law fluid over a vertical flat plate embedded in a fluid-saturated porous medium has been studied in the presence of the yield stress and the Soret effect. The governing boundary layer equations and boundary conditions are cast into a dimen- sionless form by similarity transformations, and the resulting system of equations is solved by a finite difference method. The results are preSented and discussed for concentration profiles, as well as the Nusselt number and the Sherwood number for various values of the parameters, which govern the problem. The results obtained show that the flow field is influenced appreciably by the presence of the chemical reaction parameter γ the order of.the chemical reaction parameter m, the Soret number St, the buoyancy ratio N, the Lewis number Le, and the dimensionless rheological parameter Ω. 展开更多

The free convective heat transfer to the power-law non-Newtonian flow from a vertical plate in a porous medium saturated with nanofluid under laminar conditions is investigated. It is considered that the non-Newtonian nanofluid obeys the mathematical model of power-law. The model used for the nanofluid incorporates the effects of Brown- ian motion and thermophoresis. The partial differential system governing the problem is transformed into an ordinary system via a usual similarity transformation. The numer- ical solutions of the resulting ordinary system are obtained. These solutions depend on the power-law index n, Lewis number Le, buoyancy-ratio number Nr, Brownian motion number Nb, and thermophoresis number Nt. For various values of n and Le, the effects of the influence parameters on the fluid behavior as well as the reduced Nusselt number are presented and discussed. 展开更多

AIM: To determine the discriminatory performance of fatty liver index(FLI) for non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD).METHODS: The data of 5052 subjects aged over 18 years were analyzed. FLI was calculated from body mass index, waist circumference(WC), triglyceride, and gamma glutamyl transferase data. Logistic regression analysis was conducted to determine the association between FLI and NAFLD. The discriminatory performance of FLI in the diagnosis of NAFLD was evaluated by receiver operating characteristic analysis. Area under the curves(AUCs) and related confidence intervals were estimated. Optimal cutoff points of FLI in the diagnosis of NAFLD were determined based on the maximum values of Youden's index.RESULTS: The mean age of men and women in the study population were 44.8 ± 16.8 and 43.78 ± 15.43, respectively(P = 0.0216). The prevalence of NAFLD was 40.1% in men and 44.2% in women(P < 0.0017). FLI was strongly associated with NAFLD, so that even a one unit increase in FLI increased the chance of developing NAFLD by 5.8%(OR = 1.058, 95%CI: 1.054-1.063, P < 0.0001). Although FLI showed good performance in the diagnosis of NAFLD(AUC = 0.8656(95%CI: 0.8548-0.8764), there was no significant difference with regards to WC(AUC = 0.8533, 95%CI: 0.8419-0.8646). The performance of FLI was not significantly different between men(AUC = 0.8648, 95%CI: 0.8505-0.8791) and women(AUC = 0.8682, 95%CI: 0.8513-0.8851). The highest performance with regards to age was related to the 18-39 age group(AUC = 0.8930, 95%CI: 0.8766-0.9093). The optimal cutoff points of FLI were 46.9 in men(sensitivity = 0.8242, specificity = 0.7687, Youden's index = 0.5929) and 53.8 in women(sensitivity = 0.8233, specificity = 0.7655, Youden's index = 0.5888).CONCLUSION: Although FLI had acceptable discriminatory power in the diagnosis of NAFLD, WC was a simpler and more accessible index with a similar performance. 展开更多
