METHODS:Adults male Wistar rats were divided into four groups.Group Ⅰ:sham operation;Ⅱ:Prehepatic portal hypertension, produced by partial portal vein ligation;Ⅲ: Acetaminophen intoxication and Ⅳ:Prehepatic portal hypertension plus acetaminophen.Acetaminophen was administered to produce acute hepatic injury.Portal pressure, liver serum enzymes and ammonia plasma levels were determined.Brain cortex water content was registered and trypan blue was utilized to study blood brain barrier integrity.Reflexes and behavioral tests were recorded. RESULTS:Portal hypertension was significantly elevated in groups Ⅱ and Ⅳ.Uver enzymes and ammonia plasma levels were increased in groups Ⅱ,Ⅲ and Ⅳ.Prehepatic portal hypertension (group Ⅱ),acetaminophen intoxication (group Ⅲ) and both (group Ⅳ) had changes in the blood brain-barrier integrity (trypan blue) and hyperammonemia.Cortical edema was present in rats with acute hepatic injury in groups Ⅲ and Ⅳ.Behavioral test (rota rod) was altered in group Ⅳ. CONCLUSION:These results suggest the possibility of another pathway for cortical edema production because blood brain barrier was altered (vasogenic) and hyperammonemia was registered (oltotoxic).Group Ⅳ,with behavioral altered test, can be considered as a model for study at an early stage of portal-systemic encephalopathy.展开更多

A comparative analysis was designed to identify the factors related to therapeutic response. Methods From a 3-year multi-center clinical trial, 51 cases were collected who did not respond to an intravenous injection of 153Sm-EDTMP at a dosage of 0.5-1.5 mCi/kg. The therapeutic efficacy was evaluated via changes of symptoms, general condition, consumption of analgesics, sum of effect product, and Karnofsky scores. The age, sex, history of treatment, tumor type, location of bony involvement, uptake ratio and number of metastases, and doses used by the patients were compared to those of the responders. Results In 51 non-responders, 43 were male, 34 suffered from lung cancer, 41 had bone lesions in the vertebrae, 39 in the pelvis, and 24 had metastases in the lower extremities. Sex distribution, tumor type and location of the lesion differed significantly between responders and non-responders. No other factor showed differences between the two groups. Though patients of younger age, and lesions with lower uptake of radiopharmaceutical seemed to fail the treatment more easily as observed clinically, this was not confirmed by statistical analysis. Conclusion The sex of the patients, certain types of primary tumors and metastases to lower parts of the body were found to influence the patients’ response to a single dose of 153Sm-EDTMP palliation. Further exploration of a better way to determine dosage and predict response for each individual case is needed.展开更多

METHODS: Ninety patients undergoing IVF-EF oocyte retrieval were randomly divided into three groups: an acupuncture group with needles inserted into bilateral Hegu (LI 4) points, a placebo group given placebo needles, and a control group with routine oocyte retrieval. Each group had an indometacin enema 30 min before the operation. We compared the pain-rated index (PRI), visual analogy scale (VAS), and present pain intensity (PPI) immediately after operation and 1 h after operation. We also determined the neuropeptide Y (NPY) level of the follicular fluid. RESULTS: PRI, VAS, and PPI after operation and 1 hafter operation in the acupuncture group were significantly lower than those in the control group (P< 0.01). No obvious difference (P>0.05) was observed in PRI,VAS, and PPI after operation and 1 h after operation between the placebo group and the control group. The NPY level of the follicular fluid in the acupuncture group was significantly higher than that in the control group (P<0.01). No obvious difference (P>0.05) was observed in the NPY level of the follicular fluid between the placebo group and the control group. CONCLUSION: The analgesic effect of acupuncture at Hegu in transvaginal oocyte retrieval using ultrasonography may be related to the increase in the NPY level of the follicular fluid.展开更多
