The conditions for the existence and uniqueness and the behavior of the solutions are discussed. All the systems under consideration are characterized by the dependence ofnonconservative fqrces on the first integrals of the corresponding conservative systems and arc catted generalized-energy-dependent f G.E.D.) systems. It is shown taht for each of the four classes of G.E.D. nonlinear stochastic systems there is a family of non-G.E.D. systems which are equivalent to the G.E.D. system in the sense of having identical stationary solution. The way to find the equivalent stochastic systems for a given G.E.D. system is indicated and. as an example, the equivalent stochastic systems for the second order G.E. D. nonlinear stochastic system are given. First, biorthogonal spline wavelets on [0,1] are chosen as a starting point for characterizations of functions in Besom spaces B(?)(0,1) with 0<σ<∞ and (1+σ)-1<γ<∞. Such function spaces are known to be related to nonlinear approximation. Then so called restricted nonlinear approximation procedures with respect to Sobolev space norms are considered. Besides characterization results Jackson type estimates for various tree-type and tresholding algorithms are investigated. Finally known approximation results for geometry induced singularity functions of boundary integeral equations are combined with the characterization results for restricted nonlinear approximation to show Besov space regularity results.展开更多

The first three order pertu...A 3-D nonlinear problem of supercavitating flow past an axisymmetric body at a small angle of attack is investigated by means of the perturbation method and Fourier-cosine-expansion method. The first three order perturbation equations are derived in detail and solved numerically using the boundary integral equation method and iterative techniques. Computational results of the hydrodynamic characteristics and cavity shapes of each order are presented for nonaxisymmetric supercavitating flow past cones with various apex-angles at differ- ent cavitation numbers. The numerical results are found in good agreement with experimental data.展开更多

In this regard, ...Nonlinear solution of reinforced concrete structures, particularly complete load-deflection response, requires tracing of the equilibrium path and proper treatment of the limit and bifurcation points. In this regard, ordinary solution techniques lead to instability near the limit points and also have problems in case of snap-through and snap-back. Thus they fail to predict the complete load-displacement response. The arc-length method serves the purpose well in principle, received wide acceptance in finite element analysis, and has been used extensively. However modifications to the basic idea are vital to meet the particular needs of the analysis. This paper reviews some of the recent developments of the method in the last two decades, with particular emphasis on nonlinear finite element analysis of reinforced concrete structures.展开更多
