Introduction:The main objective of this study was to fill the gap between the knowledge nurses have about psychosocial care and what they do about cancer patients’needs. It also aimed to devise ways to improve nursing education for nurses who could provide enhanced psychosocial support in such areas. Methods:This qualitative study relied on 18 in-depth interviews with nurses, with a focus on the difference between their understanding of psychosocial care and its application in helping cancer patients. This involved analyzing the transcribed interviews using thematic analysis.Data were collected from February to March 2024.Results:The verbal accounts of 18 participants were analyzed. These include theme 1“holistic approach to cancer care”with the subtheme“navigating resource constraints:”theme 2“nurses well-being and emotional input”with the subtheme“positive impact of psychosocial care:”theme 3“Care for patients’well-being”with subtheme“resourcefulness and resilience in psychosocial care:”theme 4“adapting care and building connections:”theme 5“ideal and reality in psychosocial care”with subtheme“challenges in delivering comprehensive cancer care:”and theme 6“empowering nurses for effective psychosocial care”with subtheme“building a strong foundation for psychosocial care.”Conclusion:From the nurses’perspective, this study indicates a need for more inclusive cancer treatment. Therefore,in addition to physical interventions, emotions and social welfare must also be addressed.Although emotionally invested, health workers may offer assistance along psychosocial lines, thus aiding both patients and caretakers.Although individualized care with personal connections is crucial for effective services, this approach can make it difficult to ensure that all clients receive adequate psychological assistance.Hence, there has been a call to enhance the training to produce nurses who offer high-quality services. This study emphasizes a more holistic approach toward the emotional needs of patients while supporting those responsible for them in their sickness journey. 展开更多

Background: Nursing records play an important role in multidisciplinary collaborations in delirium care. This study aims to develop a self-rated nursing record frequency scale for delirium care among nurses in acute care hospitals (NRDC-Acute). Methods: A draft of the scale was developed after a literature review and meeting with researchers with experience in delirium care, and a master’s or doctoral degree in nursing. We identified 25 items on a 5-point Likert scale. Subsequently, an anonymous self-administered questionnaire survey was administered to 520 nurses from 41 acute care hospitals in Japan, and the reliability and validity of the scale were examined. Results: There were 232 (44.6%) respondents and 218 (41.9%) valid responses. The mean duration of clinical experience was 15.2 years (SD = 8.8). Exploratory factor analysis extracted 4 factors and 13 items for this scale. The model fit indices were GFI = 0.991, AGFI = 0.986, and SRMR = 0.046. The Cronbach’s alpha coefficient for the entire scale was .888. The four factors were named “Record of Pharmacological Delirium Care on Pro Re Nata (PRN)”, “Record of Non-Pharmacological Delirium Care”, “Record of Pharmacological Delirium Care on Regular Medication”, and “Record of Collaboration for Delirium Care”. Conclusion: The scale was relatively reliable and valid. Nurses in acute care hospitals can use this scale to identify and address issues related to the documentation of nursing records for delirium care. 展开更多

Objective:To investigate the clinical effect of perioperative intensive nursing on patients who underwent severed finger reimplantation and its influence on sleep quality.Methods:62 patients who underwent severed finger reimplantation between January 2023 and December 2023 were included. They were divided into two groups:the observation group(n=31)and the control group(n=31).The control group received basic nursing interventions, while the observation group received intensive nursing care. The comparison parameters included visual analog pain score(VAS),incidence of vascular crises, length of hospitalization,Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index(PSQI),Hamilton Depression Score(HAM-D),Hamilton Anxiety Score(HAM-A),and patient satisfaction. Results:Postoperative VAS score, incidence of vascular crisis, hospitalization time,PSQI score, and HAM-A and HAM-D scores of the observation group were lower than those of the control group(P<0.05).Meanwhile,the patient satisfaction of the observation group was higher than that of the control group(P<0.05).Conclusion:Perioperative intensive nursing care for patients undergoing severed finger reimplantation demonstrates significant benefits. It reduces postoperative pain, lowers the incidence of vascular crises, shortens hospitalization durations, enhances sleep quality, alleviates negative emotions, and improves nursing satisfaction. These findings underscore the importance and applicability of such care practices. 展开更多

Background: Considering the development of international transportation in modern societies, nursing care needs to be sensitive to the cultures and customs of patients from other countries. The purpose of this study is to determine, from the perspective of culturally sensitive nursing support, the cultural practices that foreigners consider important when they visit a Japanese hospital for check-ups or hospitalization. Methods: A survey was completed by 110 foreign participants at a shrine in Kyoto City. The purpose of the survey was to evaluate the concerns of foreign visitors regarding Japanese medical providers, caused by cultural differences such as customs of daily life. The statistical analyses were performed using descriptive statistics as well as cross-tabulation, chi-square, and Fisher’s exact tests. Results: After grouping participants by continent, the top concerns observed in all groups about visiting a Japanese hospital were accessibility to and cost of medical care. First, as for medical facilities, participants from North and South America (North and South American) and Europe (Europeans) were significantly more concerned than those in Asia (Asians) (P P P P P Conclusion: Nurses need opportunities to learn and understand differences in cultures. If nurses have opportunities to learn cultural differences as well as to experience caring for foreign patients, their competencies in culturally sensitive nursing support will improve over time. It can be said that this is an issue not only in Japan but also in all other countries. 展开更多
