The studied queries include one or two nominal groups (NG) articulating around a verb. A NG consists of one or several keywords (application dependent noun or value). Simple semantic filters are defined for identifying these keywords which can be of semantic value: class, simple attribute, composed attribute, key value or not key value. Coherence rules and coherence constraints are introduced, to check the validity of the co-occurrence of two consecutive nouns in complex NG. If a query is constituted of a single NG, no further analysis is required. Otherwise, if a query covers two valid NG, it is a subject of studying the semantic coherence of the verb and both NG which are attached to it.展开更多

Starting from the short story "The Parrot and Descartes" by Pauline Melville, we argue that Cartesianism has influenced a view on education which tends to consider good and valuable what is "scientific", "objective" and "universal". The subjective and the local seem to be considered undesirable and unreliable. Brazilian scholars on the education field, such as Coracini and Souza are important support for our argument.展开更多

Altogether 120 subjects participated in this experiment and were required to take the proofreading exercise in limited time. The experimental results showed that Chinese EFL learners at different levels of proficiency acquired the core subclass of double object construction better than peripheral ones;meanwhile, learners at higher levels of proficiency outperformed those at lower levels, especially in the peripheral types. Relevant theoretical interpretations were given thereafter to the above research findings, with the hope to shed some light on the learning of double object construction by Chinese EFL learners.展开更多

The analysis framework is an incorporation of Bloom's taxonomy of educational objectives and Bachman's classification of language knowledge. It is found that the IELTS test exemplifies an assessment of test-takers' language knowledge and cognitive processes.展开更多
