BACKGROUND The aim of this study was to report a case of a patient who suffered from severe concentrated sulfuric acid burns while working at high altitude.This patient recovered after systemic treatment.We also provi...BACKGROUND The aim of this study was to report a case of a patient who suffered from severe concentrated sulfuric acid burns while working at high altitude.This patient recovered after systemic treatment.We also provide a literature review for a better understanding of the disease.CASE SUMMARY A 30-year-old male,who was working in a local chemical plant in Xining at an altitude of 2261 m,suffered from 85%burns(Ⅲ°70%,deep Ⅱ°15%)after a tank containing 80%concentration of sulfuric acid exploded.The patient immediately received a series of first aid treatments,as well as rigorous wound managements after admission,which included protection for the whole body and organs,prevention and treatment of eye burns,and the appropriate oxygen therapy.After 65 d of treatment,the burn wounds had completely healed,and the patient was transferred to another specialized hospital for further eye treatment.The first aid before admission and the emergency treatment of wounds following admission were appropriate.No severe complications of sepsis,severe renal insufficiency,septic costal chondritis,corneal perforation or other burns occurred during the treatment.CONCLUSION The main causes of concentrated sulfuric acid burns consisted of accidental burns at work,accidents in the outside,factitious injuries and improper laboratory operations.The clinical manifestations were mostly deep Ⅱ°and Ⅲ°burns,with a formation of brown-black,leather-like eschar on the wound surface and locally embolized dendrite-like vessels.The clear cause of the injury and typical clinical manifestations in this case made it easy to diagnosis.However,adult cases with severe concentrated sulfuric acid burns in high altitude areas are rare,so the successful treatment of this case is of great significance.展开更多
The mechanism of high pressure roll grinding on improvement of compression strength of oxidized hematite pellets was researched by considering their roasting properties.The results indicate that oxidized hematite pell...The mechanism of high pressure roll grinding on improvement of compression strength of oxidized hematite pellets was researched by considering their roasting properties.The results indicate that oxidized hematite pellets require higher preheating temperature and longer preheating time to attain required compression strength of pellets compared with the common magnetite oxidized pellets.It is found that when the hematite concentrates are pretreated by high pressure roll grinding(HPRG),the compression strengths of preheated and roasted oxidized hematite pellets get improved even with lower preheating and roasting temperatures and shorter preheating and roasting time.The mechanism for HPRG to improve roasting properties of oxidized pellets were investigated and the cause mainly lies in the increase of micro-sized particles and the decrease of dispersion degree for hematite concentrates,which promotes the hematite concentrate particles to be compacted,the solid-phase crystallization,and finally the formation of Fe2O3 bonding bridges during subsequent high temperature roasting process.展开更多
The relatively low sensitivity is an important reason for restricting the microbial fuel cell(MFC)sensors'application in low concentration biodegradable organic matter(BOM)detection.The startup parameters,includin...The relatively low sensitivity is an important reason for restricting the microbial fuel cell(MFC)sensors'application in low concentration biodegradable organic matter(BOM)detection.The startup parameters,including substrate concentration,anode area and external resistance,were regulated to enhance the sensitivity of MFC sensors.The results demonstrated that both the substrate concentration and anode area were positively correlated with the sensitivity of MFC sensors,and an external resistance of 210Ωwas found to be optimal in terms of sensitivity of MFC sensors.Optimized MFC sensors had lower detection limit(1 mg/L)and higher sensitivity(Slope value of the linear regression curve was 1.02),which effectively overcome the limitation of low concentration BOM detection.The essential reason is that optimized MFC sensors had higher coulombic efficiency,which was beneficial to improve the sensitivity of MFC sensors.The main impact of the substrate concentration and anode area was to regulate the proportion between electrogens and nonelectrogens,biomass and living cells of the anode biofilm.The external resistance mainly affected the morphology structure and the proportion of living cells of the anode.This study demonstrated an effective way to improve the sensitivity of MFC sensors for low concentration BOM detection.展开更多
