AIM: To determine the prevalence and characteristics of peripheral myopic retinopathy among a sample of Guangzhou office workers. METHODS: A cross-sectional study of Guangzhou Chinese office works in different departments and units of the Guangzhou Power Supply Bureau, China, in 2016. Myopic retinopathy was recorded and analyzed with a scanning laser ophthalmoscope and by slit-lamp microscopy combined with a three-mirror contact lens. RESULTS: In total, 1910 eyes of 955 subjects(508 females and 447 males) aged 21-59 y were included; 69.6% of these eyes were myopic. The myopia group had a younger age and worse uncorrected visual acuity(UCVA) and bestcorrected visual acuity(BCVA) when compared with hyperopia and emmetropia groups(P〈0.001). The axial length(AL) was significantly longer, the spherical equivalent(SE) was more serious, and the optic nerve crescent was significantly larger in subjects with myopia than with hyperopia and emmetropia. Subjects with myopia, and especially high myopia, had the highest frequency of myopic retinal 18 changes(49.4%, P〈0.001) [white-without-pressure(43.8%, P〈0.001), lattice degeneration(4.5%, P=0.044)] among the three groups. Logistic regression confirmed that any myopia(OR: 3.41, P〈0.001) [mild myopia(OR: 1.93, P=0.001), moderate myopia(OR:3.64, P〈0.001), and high myopia(OR:10.58, P〈0.001)], a greater AL(OR: 1.55, P〈0.001) and a much higher SE(OR: 0.77, P〈0.001) increased the risk for peripheral retinal changes.CONCLUSION: Myopia-related retinal changes are positively associated with greater AL, higher SE, and myopia. 展开更多

Background:As sedentary behavior is a global health issue,there is a need for methods of self-reported sitting assessment.The accuracy and reliability of these methods should also be tested in various populations and different cultural contexts.This study examined the validity of longterm and short-term recall of occupational sitting time in Finnish and Chinese subgroups.Methods:Two cohort groups of office-based workers(58.6%female,age range 2267 years)participated:a Finnish group(FIN,n=34)and a Chinese group(CHI,n=36).Long-term(past 3-month sitting)and short-term(daily sitting assessed on 5 consecutive days)single-item measures were used to assess self-reported occupational sitting time.Values from each participant were compared to objectively measured occupational sitting time assessed via thigh-mounted accelerometers,with Spearman’s rho(r)used to assess validity and the Bland-Altman method used to evaluate agreement.Coefficients of variation depicted day-to-day variability of time spent on sitting at work.Results:In the total study sample,the results showed that both long-term and short-term recall correlated with accelerometer-derived sitting time(r=0.532,95%confidence intervals(CI):0.3360.684,p<0.001;r=0.533,95%CI:0.4490.607,p<0.001,respectively).Compared to objectively measured sitting time,self-reported occupational sitting time was 2.4%(95%CI:0.5%to 5.3%,p=0.091)and 2.2%(95%CI:0.7%3.6%,p=0.005)greater for long-term and short-term recall,respectively.The agreement level was within the range21.2%to 25.9%for long-term recall,and24.2%to 28.5%for short-term recall.During a 5-day work week,day-to-day variation of sitting time was 9.4%§11.4%according to short-term recall and 10.4%§8.4%according to accelerometry-derived occupational sitting time.Conclusion:Overall,both long-term and short-term self-reported instruments provide acceptable measures of occupational sitting time in an office-based workplace,but their utility at the individual level is limited due to large variability. 展开更多

The purpose of this study is to demonstrate the effect localized heating of the feet has on physiological and psychological reactions of female in an air-conditioned environment in summer. In Japan, female office workers wear less clothing than their male counterparts. In an air-conditioned office space in summer, female conducts thermoregulation by putting on cardigans, etc. but this action does not greatly contribute to improving conditions for the legs and feet, the lower extremities of the body. The improvement of sensational and physiological temperature by localized warming of the body can contribute to a healthy working environment for female office workers, their safety, and a reduction in air conditioning’s energy expenditure. We used the indoor thermal environment evaluation index ETF to investigate the effect localized heating of the feet has on human physiological and psychological response in an air-conditioned environment in summer. The result of heating by means of heat conduction via the sole of the foot was expressed more strongly as a psychological effect than as a whole-body physiological effect. Heating by means of heat conduction via the sole of the foot was a thermal environment factor that compensates for a low temperature in whole-body thermal sensation and whole-body thermal comfort. The effect of heating due to heat conduction via the sole of the foot was expressed in the change in sole-of- the-foot skin temperature. Applying slight heat conduction by means of heating via the sole of the foot demonstrated the result of improved whole-body thermal sensation and whole-body thermal comfort. 展开更多

A Short-Term Intervention to Reduce Stress Levels in Workplace for Office Worker at UEFA—The Union of European Football Associations in Nyon/Switzerland

Several medical and scientific studies have shown that workplace stress can have a serious impact on overa... <strong>Background:</strong> Today, according to the WHO, workplace stress is particularly common. Several medical and scientific studies have shown that workplace stress can have a serious impact on overall health, a triggering or aggravating factor for many diseases and pathological conditions. This study was conducted to investigate the effects of a stress-reducing eight-week workshop and online messages campaign on office workers. <strong>Methods:</strong> To collect data of this quasi-experimental study with pre- and post-test, DASS-21 (Depression Anxiety Stress Scale) was used (only part stress;14 items). For eligible samples, stress-reducing workshops and online messages were held for 8 weeks by a specialist. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 20. <strong>Results:</strong> Of the 68 participants at the beginning, 43 participants were able to follow up on the 8-week campaign. The drop of participants must be explained by the sudden Covid-19 situation and the postponement of the UEFA EURO 2020 football activities. Overall, 13 of 14 items of stress perception had a decreased score number from pre-test to the post-test results in participants. The test results revealed that there was a significant difference mean of stress score before and after the participants got the campaign with the p-value less than 0.001. The mean difference was 4.18. It meant that after the campaign the mean of the stress score decrease was 4.18. <strong>Conclusion:</strong> The intervention at the workplace of office employees at UEFA, the United European Football Association, has shown that simple specific lifestyle behaviors, wrapped up in weekly workshops and online messages over a period of eight weeks, significantly reduced stress and stress-related conditions in office employees and improved positive dimensions of mental health and stress-related behavior. This campaign can be applicable to office workers of any type of organization or company. 展开更多

Background With an increasing number of products becoming digital,mobile,and networked,paying attention to the quality of interactions with such products is also becoming more relevant.Although the quality of such interactions has been addressed in several scientific studies,little attention has been paid to their implementation in real life and everyday contexts.Methods This paper describes the development of a novel office phone prototype,called YPhone,which demonstrates the application of a specific set of Generation Y interaction qualities(instantaneous,playful,collaborative,expressive,responsive,and flexible)in the context of office work.The working prototype supports office workers in experiencing new types of interactions.It was set out in practice through a series of evaluations.Results We found that the playful,expressive,responsive,and flexible qualities incur greater trust than the instantaneous and collaborative qualities.Such qualities can be grouped,although this may differ for different evaluated products,and researchers must be cautious about generalizations.Conclusions The overall evaluation was deemed positive,with some valuable suggestions provided regarding its user interactions and features. 展开更多
