In response to the problems of unclear distribution of deep-water pre-salt carbonate reservoirs and formation conditions of large oil fields in the Santos passive continental margin basin, based on comprehensive utilization of geological, seismic, and core data, and reconstruction of Early Cretaceous prototype basin and lithofacies paleogeography,it is proposed for the first time that the construction of pre-salt carbonate build-ups was controlled by two types of isolated platforms:inter-depression fault-uplift and intra-depression fault-high.The inter-depression fault-uplift isolated platforms are distributed on the present-day pre-salt uplifted zones between depressions, and are built on half-and fault-horst blocks that were inherited and developed in the early intra-continental and inter-continental rift stages. The late intra-continental rift coquinas of the ITP Formation and the early inter-continental rift microbial limestones of the BVE Formation are continuously constructed;intra-depression fault-high isolated platforms are distributed in the current pre-salt depression zones, built on the uplifted zones formed by volcanic rock build-ups in the early prototype stage of intra-continental rifts, and only the BVE microbial limestones are developed. Both types of limestones formed into mound-shoal bodies, that have the characteristics of large reservoir thickness and good physical properties.Based on the dissection of large pre-salt oil fields discovered in the Santos Basin,it has been found that both types of platforms could form large-scale combined structural-stratigraphic traps, surrounded by high-quality lacustrine and lagoon source rocks at the periphery, and efficiently sealed by thick high-quality evaporite rocks above, forming the optimal combination of source, reservoir and cap in the form of“lower generation, middle storage, and upper cap”,with a high degree of oil and gas enrichment. It has been found that the large oil fields are all bottom water massive oil fields with a unified pressure system, and they are all filled to the spill-point.The future exploration is recommended to focus on the inter-depression fault-uplift isolated platforms in the western uplift zone and the southern section of eastern uplift zones,as well as intra-depression fault-high isolated platforms in the central depression zone. The result not only provides an important basis for the advanced selection of potential play fairways, bidding of new blocks, and deployment of awarded exploration blocks in the Santos Basin, but also provides a reference for the global selection of deep-water exploration blocks in passive continental margin basins. 展开更多

Fluctuations in oil prices adversely affect decision making situations in which performance forecasting must be combined with realistic price forecasts. In periods of significant price drops, companies may consider extended duration of well shut-ins(i.e.temporarily stopping oil production)for economic reasons. For example, prices during the early days of the Covid-19 pandemic forced operators to consider shutting in all or some of their active wells. In the case of partial shut-in,selection of candidate wells may evolve as a challenging decision problem considering the uncertainties involved. In this study,a mature oil field with a long(50+years)production history with 170+wells is considered.Reservoirs with similar conditions face many challenges related to economic sustainability such as frequent maintenance requirements and low production rates. We aimed to solve this decision-making problem through unsupervised machine learning.Average reservoir characteristics at well locations, well production performance statistics and well locations are used as potential features that could characterize similarities and differences among wells. While reservoir characteristics are measured at well locations for the purpose of describing the subsurface reservoir, well performance consists of volumetric rates and pressures, which are frequently measured during oil production. After a multivariate data analysis that explored correlations among parameters, clustering algorithms were used to identify groups of wells that are similar with respect to aforementioned features.Using the field’s reservoir simulation model, scenarios of shutting in different groups of wells were simulated.Forecasted reservoir performance for three years was used for economic evaluation that assumed an oil price drop to$30/bbl for 6,12 or 18 months. Results of economic analysis were analyzed to identify which group(s)of wells should have been shut-in by also considering the sensitivity to different price levels. It was observed that wells can be characterized in the 3-cluster case as low, medium and high performance wells.Analyzing the forecasting scenarios showed that shutting in all or high-and medium-performance wells altogether results in better economic outcomes. The results were most sensitive to the number of active wells and the oil price during the high-price period. This study demonstrated the effectiveness of unsupervised machine learning in well classification for operational decision making purposes.Operating companies may use this approach for improved decision making to select wells for extended shut-in during low oil-price periods. This approach would lead to cost savings especially in mature fields with low-profit margins. 展开更多

The Daqing lakes are located in the region with sub-humid continent al monsoon climate. Through historical comparison of the environment before and after oil field exploitation in the area, the paper analyses the impact of oil f ield exploitation on the eco-environment of the lakes, including the impact of diversion works, drainage works, exploitation and utilization of groundwater, dr opped crude oil and petrochemical wastewater on the lakes water body. The analys is shows that oil field exploitation caused serious pollution to soil in the lak es area and deterioration of the eco-environment. The impact became more eviden t with passage of time, and the intensity varied with areas, getting more seriou s from west to east, which meant that the eastern part of the lakes were influen ced much more seriously by the human activities. To improve the eco-environment of the Daqing lakes and make them sustainable utilization, the effective protec tion measures should be taken. 展开更多

Consequences of decommissioning oil fields on artisanal fishing activities are still little known in the literature. This paper is intended to shed some light on a process of dismantling and sinking of oil and gas structures in shallow waters, with severe disturbing impacts on low income artisanal fishing activities. From a socio-economic perspective, the relationship of oil industry with local communities is described, with the main perceived problems pointed out in local fishermen leadership perspective. The notions of "damages" and "mitigation" used by the oil industry are discussed in connection to the expansion and dismantling of oil installations during the past 20 yrs. A comparative view of oil fields decommissioning in Europe and Brazil during the late 1990s suggests the need to review transparency and social commitment standards which have been far less prominent in this Brazilian case. The authors believe that the Brazilian oil industry has acquired a social and environmental debt towards the whole society, as far as it has been unable to establish a clear and effective process for decommissioning their oil installations within the artisanal fishing areas of the Todosos Santos Bay. Furthermore, the discussion of fair and specific compensations has been avoided, which otherwise would be instrumental to regain local economic conditions found among fishermen just few decades ago. 展开更多

The main sea water pump is the key equipment for the floating production storage and offloading (FPSO). Affected by some factors such as hull deformation, sea water corrosion, rigid base and pipeline stress, the vibration value of main sea water pump in the horizontal direction is abnormally high and malfunctions usually happen. Therefore, it is essential to make fault diagnosis of main sea water pump, By conventional off-line monitoring and vibration amplitude spectrum analysis, the fault cycle is found and the alarm value and stop value of equipment are set, which is helpful to equipment maintenance and accident prevention. 展开更多

Based on the comprehensive study of core samples, well testing data, and reservoir fluid properties, the construction and the distribution of the abnormal pressure systems of the Huatugou oil field in Qaidam Basin are discussed. The correlation between the pressure systems and hydrocarbon accumulation is addressed by analyzing the corresponding fluid characteristics. The results show that the Huatugou oil field as a whole has low formation pressure and low fluid energy; therefore, the hydrocarbons are hard to migrate, which facilitates the forming of primary reservoirs. The study reservoirs, located at the Xiayoushashan Formation (N1/2) and the Shangganchaigou Formation (N1) are relatively shallow and have medium porosity and low permeability. They are abnormal low-pressure reservoirs with an average formation pressure coefficient of 0.61 and 0.72 respectively. According to the pressure coefficient and geothermal anomaly, the N1 and N1/2 Formations belong to two independent temperature-pressure systems, and the former has slightly higher energy. The low-pressure compartments consist of a distal bar as the main body, prodelta mud as the top boundary, and shore and shallow lake mud or algal mound as the bottom boundary. They are vertically overlapped and horizontally paralleled. The formation water is abundant in the Cl^- ion and can be categorized as CaCl2 type with high safinity, which indicates that the abnormal low-pressure compartments are in good sealing condition and beneficial for oil and gas accumulation and preservation. 展开更多

AI(OH)3 was prepared to extract lithium ions from calcium chloride-type oil field brine. The influences of four factors, namely temperature, Al3+/Li+ molar ratio, OH-/Al3+ molar ratio, and contact time between AI(OH)3 and the brine, on the yield of lithium ions were investigated. It is found that their optimal values are 35℃, 4.5, 2.6, and 6 h, respectively. In the course of the experiment, the apparent pH value was observed. The results reveal that the apparent pH value has no remarkable influence on the yield of lithium ions. Meanwhile, the effects of the concentrations of calcium ions and magnesium ions in the brine on lithium recovery were studied. The results indicate that cal- cium ions have minor negative influence on the yield of lithium ions under optimal conditions, and magnesium ions slightly influence the yield of lithium ions. 展开更多

The Ordovician reservoir of the Tahe oil field went through many tectonic reconstructions, and was characterized by multiple hydrocarbon chargings. The aim of this study was to unravel the complex charging histories. Systematic analysis of fluid inclusions was employed to complete the investigation. Fluorescence observation of oil inclusions under UV light, and microthermometry of both oil and aqueous inclusions in 105 core samples taken from the Ordovician reservoir indicated that the Ordovician reservoir underwent four oil chargings and a gas charging. The hydrocarbon chargings occurred at the late Hercynian, the Indo-Sinian and Yanshan, the early Himalaya, the middle Himalaya, and the late Himalaya, respectively. The critical hydrocarbon charging time was at the late Hercynian. 展开更多

The Chaoyanggou oil field is a fractured low-permeability reservoir, where the distribution of oil and gas is controlled by the distribution and development of fractures.Based on outcrop, drilling core, thin section and log data, the development characteristics of fractures in this area are described. On this basis, the degree of fracture development was predicted by quantitative analysis of fracture strength and numerical simulation. The result shows that four groups of structural fractures, i.e., in near NS, and EW directions and in due NW and NE directions, were developed in the reservoir, with the nearly NS and EW fractures dominant, which are the along bedding decollement fractures formed by compressive folding action, while low angle shear fractures are related to thrusts. These fractures are mainly formed in the reversed tectonic stage at the end of the Mingshui formation during the Cretaceous period. The degree of fracture development is controlled by such factors as lithology, stratum thickness, faults, folds and depth. The fractures are developed with a clear zonation and are best developed in the northern zone, moderately developed towards the south and poorly developed in the middle zone. These prediction results are in good agreement with interpretation results from logs. 展开更多

In order to build a model for the Chang-8 low permeability sandstone reservoir in the Yanchang formation of the Xifeng oil field,we studied sedimentation and diagenesis of sandstone and analyzed major factors controlling this low permeability reservoir.By doing so,we have made clear that the spatial distribution of reservoir attribute parameters is controlled by the spatial distribution of various kinds of sandstone bodies.By taking advantage of many coring wells and high quality logging data,we used regression analysis for a single well with geological conditions as constraints,to build the interpretation model for logging data and to calculate attribute parameters for a single well, which ensured accuracy of the 1-D vertical model. On this basis,we built a litho-facies model to replace the sedimentary facies model. In addition,we also built a porosity model by using a sequential Gaussian simulation with the lithofacies model as the constraint. In the end,we built a permeability model by using Markov-Bayes simula-tion,with the porosity attribute as the covariate. The results show that the permeability model reflects very well the relative differences between low permeability values, which is of great importance for locating high permeability zones and forecasting zones favorable for exploration and exploitation. 展开更多

Wastewater after chemical flooding is difficult to be treated by biological methods due to the residual chemicals in the wastewater. Fenton oxidation, which has been widely applied to detoxifying hazardous organic compounds and improving the biodegradability of these compounds, can solve this problem. So, in this paper, Fenton oxidation was used to enhance the biodegradability of the wastewater after chemical flooding. The op- timum operating conditions for the Fenton oxidation process were 2.5 g/L Fe2 + , 600 mg/L H202 and 30 rain of treatment time. The wastewater pre- treated by Fenton oxidation was treated by aerobic activated sludge. It was found that a small amount of H202 can significantly increase both the biodegradation rate and extent of the wastewater. The effluent CODc, and HPAM contents were 260 and 94 mg/L respectively after the aerobic bio- logical process with the biodegradation time of 24 h. After Fenton oxidation combining with biodegradation, the total CODc, removal efficiency was up to 90%, and polymer and oil degrading efficiencies were 95% and 92% respectively. 展开更多

Development strategy for heavy-oil reservoirs is one of the important research interests in China National Offshore Oil Corp. (CNOOC) that plans a highly effective development for heavy oil fields in multilayered fluvial reservoirs because of their significant influence on marine oil and even on China's petroleum production. The characteristics analysis of multilayered fluvial reservoirs in the heavy oil fields in Bohai Bay indicates that large amounts ofoil were trapped in the channel, point bar and channel bar sands. The reserves distribution of 8 oilfields illustrates that the reserves trapped in the main sands, which is 20%-40% of all of the sand bodies, account for 70%-90% of total reserves of the heavy oil fields. The cumulative production from high productivity wells (50% of the total wells) was 75%-90% of the production of the overall oilfield, while only 3%-10% of the total production was from the low productivity wells (30% of the total wells). And the high productivity wells were drilled in the sands with high reserves abundance. Based on the above information the development strategy was proposed, which includes reserves production planning, selection of well configuration, productivity design, and development modification at different stages. 展开更多

Dolomitic carbonates are dominant lithology in the study well. Increasing of shale Layers in different layers caused to decrease of brittle property and this condition had investigated by petrophysical evaluation. According to this research, near to 29 percent shale has mixed with sandstone rock units in the study well which is comparable with maximum porosity there. Because, sandstone layers have shown the best porosity (near to 26 percent) in the study well. Also, good rocks based on water saturation and porosity are situated in sandstone units and poor rocks have existed in the limestone-dolomites. Therefore, facies changes in the Asmari formation can explain the observed variations in reservoir quality in the study area. 展开更多

In this study, we present a practical technique of transforming cross-hole EM data into the inter-well resistivity distribution. The a priori information constraint is incorporated into an iterative regularized inversion procedure and a variable roughness is added into the inversion process. Finite element approximation based on a two and a half-dimensional (2.5D) model has been developed for the forward problem and the "pseudo-forward" problem needed for constructing the sensitivity matrix and synthetic data set. The regularized least-squares inversion scheme, constrained with the a priori information obtained from well logs, was adopted to reconstruct the inter-well resistivity profile from two synthetic electromagnetic data sets and field data acquired in the Gudao Oil Field, East China. The partial derivatives of the sensitivity matrix were computed by the adjoint equation based on the reciprocity principle. Inversion results of the synthetic and field data examples suggest that our method is robust and stable in the presence of random noise in the field data and can be used for cross-hole EM field data interpretation. 展开更多
