ON-LINE PROBLEMS OF MINIMIZING MAKESPAN ON A SINGLE BATCH PROCESSING MACHINE WITH NONIDENTICAL JOB SIZES

The on-line problem of scheduling on a batch processing machine with nonidentical job sizes to minimize makespan is considered. The batch processing machine can process a number of jobs simultaneously as long as the total size of these jobs being processed does not exceed the machine capacity. The processing time of a batch is given by the longest processing time of any job in the batch. Each job becomes available at its arrival time, which is unknown in advance, and its processing time becomes known upon its arrival. The paper deals with two variants： the case only with two distinct arrival times and the general case. For the first case, an on-line algorithm with competitive ratio 119/44 is given. For the latter one, a simple algorithm with competitive ratio 3 is given. For both variants the better ratios can be obtained if the problem satisfies proportional assumption.

Modeling of Microstructure Evolution and Mechanical Properties of Steel Plates Produced by Thermo-Mechanical Control Process and Its On-line Application

An integrated metallurgical model was developed to predict microstructure evolution and mechanical properties of low-carbon steel plates produced by TMCP. The metallurgical phenomena occurring during TMCP and mechanical properties were predicted for different process parameters. In the later passes full recrystallization becomes difficult to occur and higher residual strain remains in austenite after rolling. For the reasonable temperature and cooling schedule, yield strength of 30 mm plain carbon steel plate can reach 310 MPa. The first on-line application of prediction and control of microstructure and properties (PCMP) in the medium plate production was achieved. The predictions of the system are in good agreement with measurements.

Towards On-line Automated Semantic Scoring of English-Chinese Translation

Described and exemplified a semantic scoring system of students' on-line English-Chinese translation. To achieve accurate assessment, the system adopted a comprehensive method which combines semantic scoring with keyword matching scoring. Four kinds of words-verbs, adjectives, adverbs and "the rest" including nouns, pronouns, idioms, prepositions, etc., are identified after parsing. The system treats different words tagged with different part of speech differently. Then it calculated the semantic similarity between these words of the standard versions and those of students' translations by the distinctive differences of the semantic features of these words with the aid of HowNet. The first semantic feature of verbs and the last semantic features of adjectives and adverbs are calculated. "The rest" is scored by keyword matching. The experiment results show that the semantic scoring system is applicable in fulfilling the task of scoring students' on-line English-Chinese translations.

Discusses on-line monitoring of electric parameters, such as dielectric loss, divulging current, equivalent capacitance and running voltage, and presents an on-line monitoring system of insulation quality, based on monitoring divulging current and dielectric loss of high voltage equipment, and its advantages, such as helping people to discover the hidden problems in a timely manner, to reduce power cut and overhaul and to improve security of power supply.

An FPGA-based real-time image processing system

This paper analyzes the current difficulties encountered in on-line inspection systems of strip surface quality, specifically relating to problems with real-time processing of huge amounts of data. To address this need, this paper describes an FPGA-based high-speed image processing module with both hardware and software aspects. Improving these two aspects together will help the system achieve real-time processing of massive image data, and simplifies the architecture of the strip surface quality on-line inspection system.

Situation and Developing Trend of Rare-Earth Countercurrent Extraction Processes Control

On the basis of the description of the rare-earth countercurrent extraction process, the on-line detecting method and equipments of rare-earth elements and the application in the process of the rare-earth countercurrent extraction are summarized. The procedure simulation of the computer, the automation control method and its current application are also mentioned in the process of rare-earth countercurrent extraction. The method of soft sensor is proposed. Optimal control method based on object-oriented rare-earth countercurrent extraction process and integrated automation system composed of process management system and process control system are presented, which are the developing direction of the automation of rare-earth countercurrent extraction process.

A Review: Artificial Neural Networks as Tool for Control Food Industry Process

In the last year, interest in using Artificial Neural networks as a modeling tool in food technology is increasing because they have found extensive utilization in solving many complex real world problems. Due to this and as previous step at development of some project, this paper intends to introduce the reader inside neural networks: general characteristics of the ANN, their architectures, their rules of learning, types of networks and ANN’s create process. Also this paper presents a comprehensive review of food industrial applications of artificial neural networks in the last year. ANN industrial applications are grouped and tabulated by their main functions and what they actually performed on the referenced papers with except the applications in the olive oil industry that are described with special emphasis.

Recent Progress of Commercially Available Biosensors in China and Their Applications in Fermentation Processes

Biosensors, which are the products of the biotechnology industry, are among the key projects of the 7th, 8th, and 9th Fiveyear Plans of China Science ＆ Technology Developing Programs, respectively, and they play an important role in developing and reforming traditional biotechnology. SBA series biosensor analyzer, as the only one commercial biosensor in China, has attracted lots of attention in the process of information gathering and measurement for biological industry with the development of technology and society. In this paper, we presented an overview of the most important contributions dealing with the monitoring of the biochemical analytes in fermentation processes using SBA series biosensor analyzers in China. Future trends of the biosensor analyzer in China were also mentioned in the last section.

优化ROLAP系统性能的客户端连接方法

通过对几个影响关系型联机分析处理系统(简称ROLAP)的性能因素和当前已存在的改善ROLA性能方法的优缺点的分析,以高速公路营运辅助决策系统为背景,提出了一种优化ROLAP性能的客户端连接方法。该方法将部分原来在服务器端完成的连接操作放在客户端完成,尽量充分利用已经取回到客户端的数据,从而减少网络传输的可能出现的冗余数据并提高ROLAP服务器的工作效率与查询速度。

Mathematical Model of Dynamic Operation and Optimum Control of Billet Reheating Furnace

This paper provides a mathematical model for the billet reheating process in furnace.A new optimum method is brought up that the objective function is the integral value of enthalpy increasing process of a billet.Different delays are simulated and calculated,some proper delay strategies are ob- tained.The on-line computer control model is de- veloped.The real production conditions simulated, the temperature deviation of drop out billet from the target temperature is kept within±15℃.

Automatic System for Failure Detection in Hydro-Power Generators

This paper presents an automatic system for failure detection in hydro-power generators. The main idea of this system is to detect failure using current and voltage signals acquired without any type of internal interference in the generator operation. The detected failures could be mechanical or electrical origins, such as: problems in bearings, unwanted vibrations, partial discharges, misalignment, unbalancing, among others. It is possible because the generator acts as a transducer for mechanical problems, and they appear in current and voltage signals. This automatic system based on electric signature analysis has been installed in Itapebi Power Plant generators since 2012. Some results are presented in this paper.

Flow correction control with electromagnetically induced preform resting process

Resin flow correction control with electromagnetic field source, a new variation of the vacuum-assisted resin transfer molding (VARTM) process called electromagnetically induced preform resting (EIPR) for dynamical resin flow controlling is introduced to manipulate the flow front and local permeability to prevent the formation of dry spots. This paper proposes an active and real-time flow control approach that is implemented during the composite laminate infusion. The EIPR process applies an electromagnetic field source to pinch (raise) and vibrate the upper flexible mold to rest the fiber preform and increase the local permeability. Vibration action delivers the fluid through the preform. The EIPR process includes a new and creative upper flexible vacuum bag with embedded elements to lift and create local vibrations via an automated gantry system. The control methodology is performed by tracking the flow front with a real-time correction. System capability is demonstrated with three configurations of preform of different preform permeabilities in each experiment. A low permeability preform is employed in these configurations to disturb the flow pattern and cause an artificial problem or pseudo problem during the filling process. The results indicate that this system fills the mold completely and reduces the filling time without any dry spots and therefore creates no waste material.

Semi-Closed Cube： An Effective Approach to Trading Off Data Cube Size and Query Response Time

The results of data cube will occupy huge amount of disk space when the base table is of a large number of attributes. A new type of data cube, compact data cube like condensed cube and quotient cube, was proposed to solve the problem. It compresses data cube dramatically. However, its query cost is so high that it cannot be used in most applications. This paper introduces the semi-closed cube to reduce the size of data cube and achieve almost the same query response time as the data cube does. Semi-closed cube is a generalization of condensed cube and quotient cube and is constructed from a quotient cube. When the query cost of quotient cube is higher than a given threshold, semi-closed cube selects some views and picks a fellow for each of them. All the tuples of those views are materialized except those closed by their fellows. To find a tuple of those views, users only need to scan the view and its fellow. Thus, their query performance is improved. Experiments were conducted using a real-world data set. The results show that semi-closed cube is an effective approach of data cube.

Rare Earth Separation in China

During the last decade, China rare earth （RE） industry has made significant progress and become one of the most important producers in the world. In this paper, the recent developments in both fundamental research and industrial application are briefly reviewed： （1） the development and application of Theory of Countercurrent Extraction, （2） the novel solvent extraction process and its application in industry for separating heavy rare earth elements （Tm, Yb, Lu）, yttrium （Y）, and scandium （Sc）, （3） the on-line analysis and automatic control of countercurrent extraction, （4） the eco-friendly process for RE/Th separation of bastnasite in Sichuan Province and electrochemical process for Eu/RE separation, and （5） the optimized flowcharts for typical rare earth minerals in China.

A Decision Support System for Construction Projects Based on Standardized Exchanged Documents

Large amounts of documents are exchanged during the construction phase of projects, which covers the important management information. To utilize the exchanged documents to support decisionmaking of the management staffs, the requirement analysis was carried out based on the interviews to the practitioners. A decision support system called Explyzer+ was developed based on the previous prototype system Explyzer. The latter was enhanced by adding the functions to automate the whole process and the techniques of data mining including decision tree analysis and clustering analysis. A case study for in-depth information analysis was conducted based on the data obtained from a large construction project to demonstrate its feasibility and effectiveness. The system could effectively assist the management staffs to carry out in-depth information analysis for decision-making in construction projects.
