The COVID-19 pandemic forced many universities around the world to move their educational activities onto online platforms. We conducted a survey in which asking undergraduates at a Chinese university how they felt about different aspects of online education during the pandemic. We received responses from 1,088 students.A majority of the students(67.9%)thought that physical classroom is better than online education and MOOCs.The students believed that teachers have improved their ability to teach online since the pandemic(67.3%)and online teaching is a suitable option in the current situation(65.8%).The students expressed satisfaction with the online educational resources and teachers’flexible use of online tools. However, the students felt that online education is stressful and affecting their health and social life. The pandemic has led to widespread use of online education, and we hope that online education can be better in the future. 展开更多

Innovation in forestry education is needed to address changing contexts of the positionality of forests. This is particularly signifi cant in the Asia–Pacifi c region, where deforestation and degradation are high. However, the accessibility of high-quality forestry education to address changing regional and global contexts is lacking.A series of innovative sustainable forest management(SFM)open education resource(OER)courses were developed and implemented to improve the accessibility of SFM education to enhance teaching quality, curriculum, and research capacity of universities in the Asia-Pacifi c Region. To evaluate the SFM-OER program in terms of student experiences, this study investigated student achievement, perceived success of the pedagogical approach and instructional design, and perceived eff ectiveness of the learning activities in promoting active and transformative learning through the assessment of a 1,191-course feedback survey between 2018 and 2020,including the global pandemic. This study revealed that the program attracted diverse student demographics, including a higher proportion of female students majoring in forestry, ecology, and other environmental studies.Their primary motivation to participate in the courses was to gain international experience, followed by the fl exibility of online learning, mandatory course requirements, and earning course credits.Students were satisfi ed with the Canvas learning management system. Most students spent less than 5 to 10 h of their weekly time in the course and agreed or strongly agreed that the workloads were manageable.Students refl ected positively on various learning activities and assignments, such as watching lecture videos, taking quizzes, reading and summarizing, having discussions, and peer review writing. However, they did not clearly prefer specifi c learning activities, signifying the importance of using diverse learning activities to satisfy diverse individual learning styles in online settings. This analysis contributes to the further development of student-centered pedagogical development for online learning and provides insight into the ways forward for online higher forestry education, while repurposing existing OER courses in a post-Covid-19 era. 展开更多

Some transitioned from face-to-face instruction to online instruction. The aim of this study is to investigate the perceptions of both the instructors and the students as regards second language acquisition through online education at a rural university. The study was implemented in the context of teaching and learning English as a second language in an online education environment. The course material is based on The Net Languages Learning Platform, which is available at http://ide.yok.gov.tr/, and the course level is general English pre-elementary. Both quantitative and qualitative methods were used in this study. For quantitative data collection, a questionnaire was employed to understand the reasons for low student attendance on online courses. For qualitative research method, observation was carried out, and interviews are designed as data collection techniques. Purposive selection was used for selection of the participants. The findings revealed that online education needs to be modified. The students are eager to improve their second language competencies; however, they do not want to waste their time on an easy course level. 展开更多

The period of existence and spread of Corona virus has led to the use of all means of remote education as an urgent necessity for all educational facilities, especially universities. Aim: Therefore, it was necessary to study the impacts of online remote education on the learning process among nursing students through studying of two courses;health information management at 6th semester and gerontology nursing course at 4th semester. Tool of Data Collection: A modified questionnaire comprised of forty statements was used through paper-based survey and online survey. Sample: A total samples (224) of nursing students were participated in the survey who enrolled in 2019 and 2020 spring semesters. Setting: The field of study was the nursing department of Applied Medical Science at Misr University for Science and Technology. Results: Induced positive impacts of online education on the learning process for nursing students experience were proven as more than half of the students (53.9%) had prior experience on online system use, and more than two thirds (62.5%) were competent in mobile/computer applications. Almost, two thirds (59.3%) agreed about online assessment experience, except that the online exam was anxious, and the time was insufficient to answer all questions. Also, more than two thirds (64.7%) agreed about the learning process of the two nursing courses. Conclusion: The study concluded that there were positive impacts of online education system on the learning process for nursing students except that the students were not able to decide that the remote online education system can replace traditional face-to-face learning as the clinical experience was not evaluated through this study. Recommendation: This study is recommended to be repeated on a large scale of participants to assess the possibility of achieving clinical experience through online remote education if Corona virus still coexists. 展开更多

In the past two decades, there has been a lot of work on computer vision technology that incorporates many tasks which implement basic filtering to image classification.Themajor research areas of this field include object detection and object recognition. Moreover, wireless communication technologies are presently adopted and they have impacted the way of education that has been changed. There are different phases of changes in the traditional system.Perception of three-dimensional(3D)from two-dimensional(2D)image is one of the demanding tasks.Because human can easily perceive but making 3D using software will take time manually.Firstly, the blackboard has been replaced by projectors and other digital screens so such that people can understand the concept better through visualization.Secondly, the computer labs in schools are now more common than ever.Thirdly, online classes have become a reality. However, transferring to online education or e-learning is not without challenges. Therefore,we propose a method for improving the efficiency of e-learning.Our proposed system consists of twoand-a-half dimensional(2.5D)features extraction using machine learning and image processing. Then, these features are utilized to generate 3D mesh using ellipsoidal deformation method. After that,3D bounding box estimation is applied. Our results show that there is a need to move to 3D virtual reality(VR)with haptic sensors in the field of e-learning for a better understanding of real-world objects. Thus, people will have more information as compared to the traditional or simple online education tools. We compare our result with the ShapeNet dataset to check the accuracy of our proposed method. Our proposed system achieved an accuracy of 90.77%on plane class,85.72%on chair class, and car class have 72.14%.Mean accuracy of our method is 70.89%. 展开更多

Due to the recently increased requirements of e-learning systems, multiple educational institutes such as kindergarten have transformed their learning towards virtual education.Automated student health exercise is a difficult task but an important one due to the physical education needs especially in young learners. The proposed system focuses on the necessary implementation of student health exercise recognition(SHER)using a modified Quaternion-basedfilter for inertial data refining and data fusion as the pre-processing steps.Further, cleansed data has been segmented using an overlapping windowing approach followed by patterns identification in the form of static and kinematic signal patterns.Furthermore, these patterns have been utilized to extract cues for both patterned signals, which are further optimized using Fisher’s linear discriminant analysis(FLDA)technique. Finally, the physical exercise activities have been categorized using extended Kalmanfilter(EKF)-based neural networks. This system can be implemented in multiple educational establishments including intelligent training systems, virtual mentors, smart simulations, and interactive learning management methods. 展开更多
