Atomic transport dynamics in crossed optical dipole trap

We study the dynamical evolution of cold atoms in crossed optical dipole trap theoretically and experimentally. The atomic transport process is accompanied by two competitive kinds of physical mechanics, atomic loading and atomic loss.The loading process normally is negligible in the evaporative cooling experiment on the ground, while it is significant in preparation of ultra-cold atoms in the space station. Normally, the atomic loading process is much weaker than the atomic loss process, and the atomic number in the central region of the trap decreases monotonically, as reported in previous research. However, when the atomic loading process is comparable to the atomic loss process, the atomic number in the central region of the trap will initially increase to a maximum value and then slowly decrease, and we have observed the phenomenon first. The increase of atomic number in the central region of the trap shows the presence of the loading process, and this will be significant especially under microgravity conditions. We build a theoretical model to analyze the competitive relationship, which coincides with the experimental results well. Furthermore, we have also given the predicted evolutionary behaviors under different conditions. This research provides a solid foundation for further understanding of the atomic transport process in traps. The analysis of loading process is of significant importance for preparation of ultra-cold atoms in a crossed optical dipole trap under microgravity conditions. 展开更多

Aerospace optical cables and fiber-optic connectors have numerous advantages(e.g.,low loss,wide transmission frequency band,large capacity,light weight,and excellent resistance to electromagnetic interference).They can achieve optical communication interconnections and high-speed bidirectional data transmission between optical terminals and photodetectors in space,ensuring the stability and reliability of data transmission during spacecraft operations in orbit.They have become essential components in high-speed networking and optically interconnected communications for spacecrafts.Thermal stress simulation analysis is important for evaluating the temperature stress concentration phenomenon resulting from temperature fluctuations,temperature gradients,and other factors in aerospace optical cables and connectors under the combined effects of extreme temperatures and vacuum environments.Considering this,advanced optical communication technology has been widely used in high-speed railway communication networks to transmit safe,stable and reliable signals,as high-speed railway optical communication in special areas with extreme climates,such as cold and high-temperature regions,requires high-reliability optical cables and connectors.Therefore,based on the finite element method,comprehensive comparisons were made between the thermal distributions of aerospace optical cables and J599III fiber optic connectors under different conditions,providing a theoretical basis for evaluating the performance of aerospace optical cables and connectors in space environments and meanwhile building a technical foundation for potential optical communication applications in the field of high-speed railways. 展开更多

With Al2O3 and SiO2 as polishing medium, under different polishing conditions, e.g. with different polishing pressure, polishing time and polishing fluid, the influences of polishing treatment on the return loss of optical fiber connectors were investigated. The return loss of optical fiber connectors is 32CD*238dB before polishing. The results show that dry polishing(i.e. no polishing fluid) with Al2O3 has less influence on return loss of optical fiber connectors, while dry polishing with SiO2 reduces return loss to about 20dB because of the end-face of optical fiber contaminated. The wet polishing(i.e. using distilled water as polishing fluid) with Al2O3 or SiO2 can increase return loss to 45CD*250dB, but wet polishing with Al2O3 may produce optical fiber undercut depth of 80CD*2140nm. Wet polishing with SiO2 should be preferentially selected for optical fiber connectors and polishing time should be controlled within 20CD*230s. 展开更多

A distributed optical fiber disturbance detection system consisted of a Sagnac interferometer and a Mach-Zehnder interferometer is demonstrated. Two interferometers outputs are connected to an electric band-pass filter via a detector respectively. The central frequencies of the two filters are selected adaptively according to the disturbance frequency. The disturbance frequency is obtained by either frequency spectrum of the two interferometers outputs. An alarm is given out only when the Sagnac interferometer output is changed. A disturbance position is determined by calculating a time difference with a cross-correlation method between the filter output connected to the Sagnac interferometer and derivative of the filter output connected to the Mach-Zehnder interferometer. The frequency spectrum, derivative and cross-correlation are obtained by a signal processing system. Theory analysis and simulation results are presented. They show that the system structure and location method are effective, accurate, and immune to environmental variations. 展开更多

All optical network based on wavelength division multiplexing transmission system with optical cross connect (OXC) is an essential approach for optical commumications.Crosstalk introduced by OXC (specially large scale one) is a key limiting factor for its capacity. Optical signal passing through a typical OXC is analyzed in this paper, followed by description of the generation and effect of intraband crosstalk.The power penalties induced by intraband crosstalk versus the number of multiplexed wavelengths M and the number of input fibers N have been given by numerical simulations. The results show that the coherent crosstalk is the most critical limitation on OXC and depends more closely on the number of multiplexed wavelengths M than the number of input fibers N . Crosstalk is suppressed by doubly filtering, fixing optimum decision-threshold and appropriately choosing the number of multiplexed wavelengths M . 展开更多

Cross-phase modulation instability in optical fibres with exponential saturable nonlinearity and high-order dispersion

Utilizing the linear-stability analysis, this paper analytically investigates and calculates the condition and gain spectra of cross-phase modulation instability in optical fibres in the ease of exponential saturable nonlinearity and high-order dispersion. The results show that, the modulation instability characteristics here are similar to those of conventional saturable nonlinearity and Kerr nonlinearity. That is to say, when the fourth-order dispersion has the same sign as that of the second-order one, a new gain spectral region called the second one which is far away from the zero point may appear. The existence of the exponential saturable nonlinearity will make the spectral width as well as the peak gain of every spectral region increase with the input powers before decrease. Namely, for every spectral regime, this may lead to a unique value of peak gain and spectral width for two different input powers. In comparison with the case of conventional saturable nonlinearity, however, when the other parameters are the same, the variations of the spectral width and the peak gain with the input powers will be faster in case of exponential saturable nonlinearity. 展开更多

Theoretical analysis for an online measurement of the stack gas flow velocity based on the optical scintillation method with a structure of two parallel optical paths is performed. The causes of optical scintillation in a stack are first introduced. Then, the principle of flow velocity measurement and its mathematical expression based on cross correlation of the optical scintillation are presented. The field test results show that the flow velocity measured by the proposed technique in this article is consistent with the value tested by the Pitot tube. It verifies the effectiveness of this method. Finally, by use of the structure function of logarithmic light intensity fluctuations, the theoretical explanation of optical scintillation spec- tral characteristic in low frequency is given. The analysis of the optical scintillation spectrum provides the basis for the measurement of the stack gas flow velocity and particle concentration simultaneously. 展开更多

AIM: To study the optical property and biocompatibility of a tissue engineering cornea. METHODS: The cross-linker of N- (3-Dimethylaminoropyl)-N'ethylcarbodiimide hydrochloride (EDC)/ N-Hydroxysuccinimide (NHS) was mixed with Type I collagen at 10% (weight/volume). The final solution was molded to the shape of a corneal contact lens. The collagen concentrations of 10%, 12.5%, 15%, 17.5% and 20% artificial corneas were tested by UV/vis-spectroscopy for their transparency compared with normal rat cornea. 10-0 sutures were knotted on the edges of substitute to measure the corneal buttons's mechanical properties. Normal rat corneal tissue primary culture on the collagen scaffold was observed in 4 weeks. Histopathologic examinations were performed after 4 weeks of in vitro culturing. RESULTS: The collagen scaffold appearance was similar to that of soft contact lens. With the increase of collagen concentration, the transparency of artificial corneal buttons was diminished, but the toughness of the scaffold was enhanced. The scaffold transparency in the 10% concentration collagen group resembled normal rat cornea. To knot and embed the scaffold under the microscope, 20% concentration collagen group was more effective during implantation than lower concentrations of collagen group. In the first 3 weeks, corneal cell proliferation was highly active. The shapes of cells that grew on the substitute had no significant difference when compared with the cells before they were moved to the scaffold. However, on the fortieth day, most cells detached from the scaffold and died. Histopathologic examination of the primary culture scaffold revealed well grown corneal cells tightly attached to the scaffold in the former culturing. CONCLUSION: Collagen scaffold can be molded to the shape of soft contact corneal lens with NHS/EDC. The biological stability and biocompatibility of collagen from animal species may be used as material in preparing to engineer artificial corneal scaffold. 展开更多

By employing displacement operations, single-photon subtractions, and weak cross-Kerr nonlinearity, we propose an alternative way of implementing several universal quantum logical gates for all-optical hybrid qubits encoded in both single-photon polarization state and coherent state. Since these schemes can be straightforwardly implemented only using local operations without teleportation procedure, therefore, less physical resources and simpler operations are required than the existing schemes. With the help of displacement operations, a large phase shift of the coherent state can be obtained via currently available tiny cross-Kerr nonlinearity. Thus, all of these schemes are nearly deterministic and feasible under current technology conditions, which makes them suitable for large-scale quantum computing. 展开更多

Based on the theory of optical scintillation induced by fluctuation of particulate concentration, a Gas Flow Velocity Measurement System (GFVMS) is proposed to measure the gas flow velocity in stack. Verification experiments on simulation flue indicate that, for the smoothing effect of transmitting and receiving apertures, optical scintillation induced by refractive index fluctuation is very weak. When particles are added into gas flow, the standard deviation of optical scintillation increased obviously. And when the particulate number concentration exceeds 4000/m3, the GFVMS can work normally, and the variation range of measured velocities is almost the same with that of Pitot tube. Sensitivity testing results show that, GFVMS is very sensitive to velocity change. Results of outfield experiment prove that, velocities measured by GFVMS are more stable and the average velocity (7.62/s) is very close to the statistical average (7.61 m/s) of velocities measured by Pitot tube at different points along optical path. 展开更多

In this paper the results from investigations of the nonlinear refractive index and nonlinear absorption coefficient of Bromophenol Blue using the Z-scan technique with a continuous wave laser beam at wavelengths 488 nm and 514 nm are presented. It was observed that the material exhibited reverse saturation absorption and self defocusing behavior. It was found that the increase in solution concentration resulted in linear increase of the nonlinear refractive index. A pump and probe technique was used to obtain the absorption spectrum of triplet state. Furthermore the nonlinear absorption effect was used to demonstrate all optical switching. 展开更多

In the internet protocol(IP) over multi-granular optical switch network (IP/MG-OXC), the network node is a typical multilayer switch comprising several layers, the IP packet switching (PXC) layer, wavelength switching (WXC) layer and fiber switching (FXC) layer. This network is capable of both IP layer grooming and wavelength grooming in a hierarchical manner. Resource provisioning in the multi-granular network paradigm is called hierarchical grooming problem. An integer linear programming (ILP) model is proposed to formulate the problem. An iterative heuristic approach is developed for solving the problem in large networks. Case study shows that IP/MG-OXC network is much more extendible and can significantly save the overall network cost as compared with IP over wavelength division multiplexing network. 展开更多

电力通信网跨层传输数据时,受到噪声数据影响,导致跨层数据传输耗时长、电流畸变率高。为了保证跨层通信安全,设计基于密度的聚类算法(Ordering Points To Identify the Clustering Structure,OPTICS)的电力通信网跨层保护系统。构建并... 电力通信网跨层传输数据时,受到噪声数据影响,导致跨层数据传输耗时长、电流畸变率高。为了保证跨层通信安全,设计基于密度的聚类算法(Ordering Points To Identify the Clustering Structure,OPTICS)的电力通信网跨层保护系统。构建并联有源电力滤波器安全保护电路,保证三相四线制限幅后具有良好谐波补偿效果。通过跨层控制主动切换模块,实现目标通信链路下达指令的主动切换。对电力通信网跨层数据进行OPTICS聚类处理,结合Laplace机制添加对称指数分布噪声,将Laplace噪声添加到聚类簇中,输出添加噪声后结果存储在输出队列中,完成通信网跨层保护。由系统测试结果可知,该系统传输耗时少,且在10 s测试时间内跨层电流畸变率仅为21%,能够起到保护通信网跨层传输的作用。 展开更多

AIM:To compare corneal demarcation line(DL)depth in both accelerated epithelium-off and trans-epithelium cross linking(CXL)using anterior segment optical coherence tomography(AS-OCT)and its relation to maximum keratometry(Kmax)progression in both techniques.METHODS:A prospective comparative interventional study where patients with mild to moderate keratoconus(KC)were classified into two groups:accelerated epitheliumoff and trans-epithelium CXL based on corneal pachymetry.Assessment of corneal DL depth was carried out after 3mo by AS-OCT.Kmax readings were evaluated after one year follow up using the Scheimpflug imaging system.RESULTS:Study included 74 eyes of 44 patients.Group A underwent epithelium-off CXL(41 eyes),while Group B underwent trans-epithelium CXL(33 eyes).At 3mo follow up,mean corneal DL depth in Group A was 219.9±58.4μm while in Group B was 127.2±7.8μm(P<0.05).The mean Kmaxchangedfrom51.9±3.9to51.3±4.2dioptersin Group A and from 53.1±4.1 to 53.6±5 diopters in Group B with insignificant difference in Kmax changes in either group(P>0.05).In addition,no significant change in corneal pachymetry was found in both groups(meanchange at 1y:6.4±4.7 and-10.1±2.3μm in Groups A and B respectively).CONCLUSION:Despite a significantly deeper corneal DL depth created by accelerated epithelium-off CXL technique compared to accelerated trans-epithelium CXL,there is no significant impact on keratoconus progression. 展开更多

微表情是人们试图隐藏自己真实情绪时不由自主泄露出来的面部表情,是近年来情感计算领域的热点研究领域.微表情是一种细微的面部运动,难以捕捉其细微变化的特征.本文基于交叉注意力多尺度ViT(CrossViT)在图像分类领域的优异性能以及能... 微表情是人们试图隐藏自己真实情绪时不由自主泄露出来的面部表情,是近年来情感计算领域的热点研究领域.微表情是一种细微的面部运动,难以捕捉其细微变化的特征.本文基于交叉注意力多尺度ViT(CrossViT)在图像分类领域的优异性能以及能够捕捉细微特征信息的能力,将CrossViT作为主干网络,对网络中的交叉注意力机制进行改进,提出了DA模块(Dual Attention)以扩展传统交叉注意力机制,确定注意力结果之间的相关性,从而提升了微表情识别精度.本网络从三个光流特征(即光学应变、水平和垂直光流场)中学习,这些特征是由每个微表情序列的起始帧和峰值帧计算得出,最后通过Softmax进行微表情分类.在微表情融合数据集上,UF1和UAR分别达到了0.7275和0.7272,识别精度优于微表情领域的主流算法,验证了本文提出网络的有效性. 展开更多

We report the generation of a crossed,focused,optical vortex beam by using a pair of hybrid holograms,which combine the vortex phase and lens phase onto a spatial light modulator.We study the intensity distributions of the vortex beam in free propagation space,and the relationship of its dark spot size with the incident Gaussian beam’s waist,the lens’s focal length,and its orbital angular momentum.Our results show that the crossed,focused,vortex beam’s dark spot size can be as small as 16.3μm and adjustable by the quantum number of the orbital angular momentum,and can be used to increase the density of trapped molecules.Furthermore,we calculate the optical potential of the blue-detuned,crossed vortex beam for MgF molecules.It is applicable to cool and trap neutral molecules by intensity-gradient-induced Sisyphus cooling,as the intensity gradient of such vortex beam is extremely high near the focal point. 展开更多

The present calculation covers the range of impact energy from 10 to 3000 eV. The results are compared with experimental data and other theories where available. The atoms are presented by spherical complex optical potential, which is composed of static, exchange, polarization, and absorption terms. 展开更多
