However, when less expensive argon is used, the plasma jet often operates in a filamentary mode. Compared to the filamentary mode, the diffuse mode is more desirable for applications. Hence, many efforts have been exerted to accomplish the diffuse mode of the argon plasma jet. In this paper, a novel single-needle argon plasma jet is developed to obtain the diffuse mode. It is found that the plasma jet operates in the filamentary mode when the distance from the needle tip to the central line of the argon stream(d) is short. It transits to the diffuse mode with increasing d. For the diffuse mode, there is always one discharge pulse per voltage cycle, which initiates at the rising edge of the positive voltage. For comparison, the number of discharge pulse increases with an increase in the peak voltage for the filamentary mode. Fast photography reveals that the plasma plume in the filamentary mode results from a guided positive streamer, which propagates in the argon stream. However, the plume in the diffuse mode originates from a branched streamer, which propagates in the interfacial layer between the argon stream and the surrounding air. By optical emission spectroscopy, plasma parameters are investigated for the two discharge modes, which show a similar trend with increasing d. The diffuse mode has lower electron temperature, electron density, vibrational temperature, and gas temperature compared to the filamentary mode.展开更多

An optical emission spectroscopic(OES) diagnostic technique is used for the characterization of plasmas and for identifications of OH and O radicals along with other species in the plasmas. The OES diagnostic technique reveals the excitation Tx?≈?5550–9000 K, rotational Tr?≈?1350–2700 K and gas Tg?≈?850–1600 K temperatures, and electron density n?(1.1-1.9) ′101 4 cm^(-3) e under different experimental conditions. The production and destruction of OH and O radicals are investigated as functions of applied voltage and air flow rate. Relative intensities of OH and O radicals indicate that their production rates are increased with increasing Ar content in the gas mixture and applied voltage. nereveals that the higher densities of OH and O radicals are produced in the discharge due to more effective electron impact dissociation of H_2O and O_2 molecules caused by higher kinetic energies as gained by electrons from the enhanced electric field as well as by enhanced n e.The productions of OH and O are decreasing with increasing air flow rate due to removal of Joule heat from the discharge region but enhanced air flow rate significantly modifies discharge maintenance properties. Besides, Tgsignificantly reduces with the enhanced air flow rate. This investigation reveals that Ar plays a significant role in the production of OH and O radicals.展开更多

By optical emission spectroscopy, plasma parameters are investigated for the two discharge modes, which show a similar trend with increasing d. The diffuse mode has lower electron temperature, electron density, vibrational temperature, and gas temperature compared to the filamentary mode.

文摘In this work,we investigated the discharge characteristics and heating mechanisms of argon helicon plasma in different wave coupled modes with and without blue core.Spatially resolved spectroscopy and emission intensity of argon atom and ion lines were measured via local optical emission spectroscopy, and electron density was measured experimentally by an RFcompensated Langmuir probe. The relation between the emission intensity and the electron density was obtained and the wavenumbers of helicon and’Trivelpiece-Gould’(TG)waves were calculated by solving the dispersion relation in wave modes. The results show that at least two distinct wave coupled modes appear in argon helicon plasma at increasing RF power,i.e.blue core(or BC)mode with a significant bright core of blue lights and a normal wave(NW)mode without blue core. The emission intensity of atom line 750.5 nm(lArⅠ750.5nm)is related to the electron density and tends to be saturated in wave coupled modes due to the neutral depletion, while the intensity of ion line 480.6 nm(IArⅡ480.6nm)is a function of the electron density and temperature, and increases dramatically as the RF power is increased.Theoretical analysis shows that TG waves are strongly damped at the plasma edge in NW and/or BC modes, while helicon waves are the dominant mechanism of power deposition or central heating of electrons in both modes. The formation of BC column mainly depends on the enhanced central electron heating by helicon waves rather than TG waves since the excitation of TG waves would be suppressed in this special anti-resonance region.
文摘This work deals with the experimental study of a surface dielectric-barrier discharge,as a part of the ongoing interest in the control of plasma induced electro-fluid dynamic effects(e.g.plasma actuators). The discharge is generated using a plasma reactor consisting of a fused silica plate which is sandwiched between two printed circuit boards where the electrodes are developed. The reactor is driven by narrow high voltage square pulses of asymmetric rising(25 ns)and falling(2.5μs)parts,while the discharge evolution is considered in a temporarily and spatially resolved manner over these pulses. That is,conventional electrical and optical emission analyzes are combined with high resolution optical emission spectroscopy and ns-resolved imaging, unveiling main characteristics of the discharge with a special focus on its propagation along the dielectric-barrier surface. The voltage rising part leads to cathode-directed ionization waves, which propagate with a speed up to 105m s~(-1).The voltage falling part leads to cathode sheath formation on the driven electrode.Τhe polarization of the dielectric barrier appears critical for the discharge dynamics.

文摘Atmospheric pressure air/Ar/H_2O gliding arc discharge plasma is produced by a pulsed dc power supply. This investigation reveals that Ar plays a significant role in the production of OH and O radicals.

文摘A novel laser-assisted pulsed plasma thruster(LA-PPT)is proposed as an electric propulsion thruster, which separates laser ablation and electromagnetic acceleration. It aims for a higher specific impulse than that achieved with conventional LA-PPTs.Owing to the short-time discharge and the novel configuration, the physical mechanism of the discharge is unclear.Time and spatial-resolved optical emission spectroscopy was applied to investigate the variation in the plasma properties in the thruster discharge channel. The plasma species, electron temperature, and electron density were obtained and discussed. Our investigation revealed that there were H_(α),H_(β),H_(γ),H_(ε) atoms,CⅠ,CⅡ,CⅢ,CⅣ,ClⅠ,ClⅡparticles, and a small amount of CH,C_(3),C_(2),H_(2) neutral molecular groups in the plasma. The electron temperature of the discharge channel of the thruster was within 0.6–4.9 e V,and the electron density was within(1.1–3.0)×10^(18)cm^(-3),which shows that the optical emission spectroscopy method is to measure the electron excitation temperature and electron density in heavy particles. But the Langmuir probe method is to measure the temperature and density of free electrons. The use of laser instead of spark plug as the ignition mode significantly changed the plasma distribution in the discharge channel.Unlike the conventional PPT,which has high electron density near the thruster surface,LAPPT showed relatively large electron density at the thruster outlet, which increased the thruster specific impulse. In addition, the change in the ignition mode enabled the electron density in the LA-PPT discharge channel to be higher than that in the conventional PPT.This proves that the ignition mode with laser replacing the spark plug effectively optimised the PPT performance.

文摘The decomposition reaction of phosphate rock under the action of microwave plasma was investigated.Phosphate rock and its decomposition products were characterized by x-ray diffraction(XRD),energy disperse spectroscopy(EDS),and chemical analysis. The measurements of electron temperature(T_(e)) and electron density(N_(e)) of plasma plume under atmospheric pressure were carried out using optical emission spectroscopy(OES).The electron temperature(T_(e)) was determined based on the calculation of the relative intensity of the O Ⅱ(301.91 nm) and O Ⅱ(347.49 nm) spectral lines.Correspondingly, electron densities were obtained using the Saha ionization equation which was based on the C Ⅰ(247.86 nm) line and the C Ⅱ(296.62 nm) line under the assumption of local thermodynamic equilibrium(LTE).The relationship between the relative intensity of the active components and the gas output was studied by the spectrometer. Finally the reaction mechanism of the decomposition of the phosphate rock under the action of the atmospheric pressure microwave plasma was proposed. The results showed that with the increase of CO flow and microwave power, the electron temperature and electron density in the plasma show a decreasing and increasing trend. The CO is dissociated into gaseous carbon ions under the action of microwave plasma, and the presence of gaseous carbon ions promotes the decomposition of the phosphate rock.

文摘A two-temperature(2 T)thermal non-equilibrium model is developed to address the thermal nonequilibrium phenomenon that inevitably exists in the reverse-polarity plasma torch(RPT)and applied to numerically investigate the plasma flow characteristics inside and outside the RPT.Then,a detailed comparison of the results of the 2 T model with those of the local thermal equilibrium(LTE)model is presented.Furthermore, the temperature of the plasma jet generated by a RPT and the RPT’s voltage are experimentally measured to compare and validate the result obtained by different models. The differences of the measured excitation temperature and the arc voltage between the 2 T model and experimental measurement are less than 13%and 8%,respectively,in all operating cases, validating the effectiveness of the 2 T model. The LTE model overestimates the velocity and temperature distribution of the RPT and its plasma jet, showing that thermal non-equilibrium phenomena cannot be neglected in the numerical modelling of the RPT.Unlike other common hot cathode plasma torches, the thermal non-equilibrium phenomenon is found even in the arc core of the RPT,due to the strong cooling effect caused by the big gas flow rate.

文摘The emission spectra of excited radicals(OH(A^2E),O(3p^3 P),H_α(3P)) and emissive species(N_2^+(B^2∑_u^+),N_2(C_3Π_u)) produced by positive pulsed high-voltage needle-plane corona discharges in atmospheric N_2 and O_2 flows wetted with 10%H_2O at 80 ℃ are used to investigate the relative concentrations of the produced radicals. The results indicate that the tendencies of the concentrations of radicals with discharge conditions are similar to each other due to their similar excitation processes by electron collision. The influence of oxygen flow mixed with the nitrogen flow on the emission intensities of O(3p^5P → 3s^5S_2~.),H_α(3P → 2S),N_2_+(B^2∑_u^+ → X^2∑_g+0-0),and N_2(C^3Π_u → B^3Π_g 1-0) is presented. When the flow rate of oxygen addition is varied from 0-30 ml min^(-1),the emission intensities of O(3p^5P → 3s^5S_2~0.),H_α(3P → 2s),and N_2^+(B^2∑_u^+ →X^2∑_g 0-0) increase and reach a maximum. Then,if the oxygen flow rate increases further, the emission intensities tend to decrease. However, the intensity of N_2(C^3Π_u → B^3Π_g1-0) decreases monotonously with the increasing oxygen flow, which indicates that the electron density decreases with the increasing oxygen flow.By the tendencies of the relative intensities to N_2(C^3Π_u → B^3Π_g 1-0),the concentrations of the total produced O,H,and N_2^+ are shown to increase with the oxygen flow.Based on the reactions for the production of H and O without and with the addition of O_2,the analytic solutions for H and O production are derived in accordance with the experimental results.

文摘The DC-driven atmospheric-pressure microplasma is generated in a helium gas flowing through the metal tube cathode and is brought into contact with the surface of the water with the immersed Pt anode.By adjusting the gas flow, discharge current and gap distance,self-organized patterns are observed and varied sequentially from the homogeneous spot to the ring-like shape, distinct spot shape and the gearwheel shape on the water surface. The electrode temperature is measured and the gas temperature of the plasma discharge is calculated through the numericalfitting of the second positive system of the spectrum of N2 molecules. It is shown that the pattern transition is related to the electrode and gas temperatures of the plasma. Moreover, specific discretization features of the patterns are shown to appear at certain gas temperatures.

文摘Boron doped diamond(BDD)electrode is a promising electrochemical material for detecting dopamine level in the human’s body.In this work,we developed a new doping source-graphite and solid boron oxide powders to synthesize BDD film with microwave plasma chemical vapor deposition,so as to avoid using toxic or corrosive dopants, such as boroethane and trimethylborate. The synthesized BDD film is pinhole free and with high doping density of 8.44×10^20 cm^-3 calculated from the Raman spectroscopy.Subsequently,Au nanospheres were decorated on the surface of BDD film to improve electrochemical performance of the BDD film. The Au nanoparticles modified BDD electrode demonstrates an excellent electrochemical response,a high sensitivity(in the range of 5μM-1 m M),and a low detection limit(~0.8μM)for detecting dopamine.
