Global warming has increased people’s awareness of environmental protection and social responsibility,which is also reflected in the way they invest,with environmental,social and corporate governance aspects starting to receive more attention.The purpose of this study is to investigate how environmental,social,and governance(ESG)performance,as measured by ESG risk assessment,affects corporate value.The population of this study consists of his 90 companies registered in his IDXESGL using a sampling method based on purposive sampling,and the total sample includes his 60 companies.The data analysis method used is a simple linear regression test.The findings of this study show that ESG risk assessment influences corporate value. 展开更多

Valuing options to renew at future market value:the case of commercial property leases

In this study,we develop and empirically test a valuation model for a commonly encountered option in office leases:a tenant’s option to renew at future market rent(a fair market value)with lease termination as the maturity date.The model integrates decision analysis with real options analysis and market risk with private risks.“Option value”is defined as the private value of the option to either party pre-contract,while“option price”assumes a fair agreement between transacting parties and can be positive(rental premium paid)or negative(rental discount offered).Without manifest expectations,an analysis of a sample of office leases supports the model’s logic with price estimates in a practical range.The tenants’option price/value is shown to have a negative relationship with the original/renewal lease term;conversely,the landlords’option value is positively related to the original/renewal term.Comparative analyses show that transaction costs have a positive effect on tenants’option value and on prices,while vacancy costs and the vacancy period are both positively related to the landlords’option value and negatively related to price.Market rent is found to have a negative relationship with option price.Overall,this study provides a theoretical analysis and empirical tests of the value of a real option that allows option holders to renew/extend their contracts at a fair market value. 展开更多

In the context of rising life expectancy,there is a significant discrepancy between Chinese seniors’self-perceptions of the start of old age and the expectations of society around this age.The traditional paradigm,which forecasts individual economic behavior and formulates economic policies based on societal standards of age,is put to the test by this disparity.This study,which draws from the China Longitudinal Aging Society Survey(CLASS),examines the factors,processes,and improvement strategies that affect how older people choose to work.The following are our conclusions:(i)Chinese elderly believe their old age starts from 70 years on average;delaying perceived old age is a denial of aging and raises the likelihood of finding work.Elders who are youthful at heart have a 2.4%higher chance of remaining employed than elders who are old at heart.(ii)In contrast to old-at-heart elders,young-at-heart elders are more likely to maintain their middle-age lifestyles,continue working,become motivated to engage in social activities,and gain the confidence to face challenges and continue in their career.(iii)If the perceived old age is above 70 years,the milestone event of aging is retirement from work,and there are external pressures,particularly pressures from family intergenerational support,the perception of old age will have a more proactive impact on older workers.(iv)Despite rising pension benefits,older people’s decision to remain in the workforce is still heavily influenced by their perception of their age.However,this effect is notably gender-specific,as older women’s decision to remain in the workforce is not greatly influenced by their own perception of their age. 展开更多

The explosive growth of mobile data demand is becoming an increasing burden on current cellular network.To address this issue,we propose a solution of opportunistic data offloading for alleviating overloaded cellular traffic.The principle behind it is to select a few important users as seeds for data sharing.The three critical steps are detailed as follows.We first explore individual interests of users by the construction of user profiles,on which an interest graph is built by Gaussian graphical modeling.We then apply the extreme value theory to threshold the encounter duration of user pairs.So,a contact graph is generated to indicate the social relationships of users.Moreover,a contact-interest graph is developed on the basis of the social ties and individual interests of users.Corresponding on different graphs,three strategies are finally proposed for seed selection in an aim to maximize overloaded cellular data.We evaluate the performance of our algorithms by the trace data of real-word mobility.It demonstrates the effectiveness of the strategy of taking social relationships and individual interests into account. 展开更多

Differently from the general online social network(OSN),locationbased mobile social network(LMSN),which seamlessly integrates mobile computing and social computing technologies,has unique characteristics of temporal,spatial and social correlation.Recommending friends instantly based on current location of users in the real world has become increasingly popular in LMSN.However,the existing friend recommendation methods based on topological structures of a social network or non-topological information such as similar user profiles cannot well address the instant making friends in the real world.In this article,we analyze users' check-in behavior in a real LMSN site named Gowalla.According to this analysis,we present an approach of recommending friends instantly for LMSN users by considering the real-time physical location proximity,offline behavior similarity and friendship network information in the virtual community simultaneously.This approach effectively bridges the gap between the offline behavior of users in the real world and online friendship network information in the virtual community.Finally,we use the real user check-in dataset of Gowalla to verify the effectiveness of our approach. 展开更多

We model the dynamic interactions using the hidden Markov model, a probability model which has a wide array of applications. The transition matrix with three states, forgetting, reinforcement and exploration is estimated using simulation. Singular value decomposition estimates the observation matrix for emission of low, medium and high interaction rates. This is achieved when the rank approximation is applied to the transition matrix. The initial state probabilities are then estimated with rank approximation of the observation matrix. The transition and the observation matrices estimate the state and observed symbols in the model. Agents interactions in a social network account for between 20% and 50% of all the activities in the network. Noise contributes to the other portion due to interaction dynamics and rapid changes observable from the agents transitions in the network. In the model, the interaction proportions are low with 11%, medium with 56% and high with 33%. Hidden Markov model has a strong statistical and mathematical structure to model interactions in a social network. 展开更多

The moderating effect of social cognitive factors on self-management activities and HbA1c in Thai adults with type-2 diabetes

Background: Diabetes mellitus (DM) has become a serious chronic disease.Self-management strategies help persons with DM make choices which will develop skills needed to reach their goal of blood glucose control and allow them to be successful in reaching goals.Objective: To examine the impact of self-management activities on HbA1c for persons with DM and to examine the impact of social support,self-efficacy and Buddhist values as moderators on the relationship between the self-management activities and HbA1c.Method: This study is a cross-sectional design.The sample included 401 Thai adults diagnosed with type 2 diabetes,aged 20-65 years old who had at least one HbA1c test in the last three months were recruited.Participants completed four questionnaires to measure self-management activities,as well as self-efficacy,Buddhist values and social support as moderating factors on self-management activities and HbA1 c,Results: The self-management activities were negatively associated (β =-2.05,p ≤ 0.001) with HbA1c.The Social support,self-efficacy and Buddhist values had a significant interaction effect between selfmanagement activities and HbA1c (β =-0.97,p ≤ 0.05,β =-0.18,p ≤ 0.05 and β =-2.76,p ≤ 0.001).Conclusion: The diabetes self-management activities were more strongly associated with HbA1c under conditions of high social support,self-efficacy and health beliefs with Buddhist values.Future interventions for T2DM self-management programs should incorporate mechanisms to measure and support these factors. 展开更多

The traditional business view—which assumes that the main contribution of companies to society is the creation of economic value—is being surpassed by a growing awareness of other values, including social and environmental ones. The diffusion of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in all sectors and, in recent time, also in the wine business, has been based on a stakeholder approach. Most of the existing key concepts and tools addressing CSR issues have been developed by, and in, the context of large enterprises. The multitude of Italian wine SMEs (small and medium-sized enterprises) remain at an early stage of environmental and social management, limited in most cases to local activities, characterized by an occasional approach and unrelated to the business strategy. But, due to increased pressure from stakeholders, environmental and social concern is gradually growing in SMEs as well. Nevertheless, CSR initiatives developed by large companies frequently fail when they are adopted by SMEs and also by the wine SMEs. In recent years, major companies have felt the need to work on CSR and progressively defined and adopted a wide range of instruments such as codes of conduct, process standard, environmental management standard, cause related marketing, corporate social reports, sustainability reports, etc. These instruments more than often represent the final result of experiments established by large sized organizations, often operating in distant countries, which have decided to satisfy the multiple requests from the always more complex context in which they operate. Many companies, therefore, have orientated themselves towards the accomplishment of new objectives centred, not only on gaining profit but, moreover, towards the creation of values: a more extensive value better known as “pluri-dimensional” shared by all the stakeholders within a new interdependent dynamism and inspired by a multitude of references (such as UN Global Compact, AA1000 Guidelines, Global Reporting Initiative, SA8000, etc.). The perception of the concept of corporate responsibility and its possible practical application in a wine-growing company is the subject of continuous debates, always in search of a globally shared interpretation. Sustainable and social initiatives require, in fact, planning, monitoring and enhancement of knowledge. This is a process that requires a tirelessly oriented approach to continuous improvement. The aim of this paper is to delineate efficient ways of promoting CSR, considering wine SMEs’ specific profiles and needs. Moreover, the paper is aimed at highlighting case of Feudi di San Gregorio S.p.A. The company has always been oriented to pursue management models capable of generating social value (in conjunction with that economic) at the systemic level (so-called shared value).
