A non-contact measurement method for rock mass discontinuity orientations by smartphone

Smartphones are usually packed with a large number of features.An increasing number of researchers are paying attention to the technological capabilities of smartphones,which is a new topic and research interest.This paper proposes a method using smartphones and digital photogrammetry to measure the discontinuity orientation of a rock mass.Smartphone photos satisfying a certain overlap rate provide an efficient method for generating point cloud models of rock outcrops based on image matching.Using the target and the generated point cloud model allows for determining actual geographic coordinates and the measurement of discontinuity orientations.The method proposed has been applied to two different study areas.The discontinuity orientations measured by the proposed method are compared with those measured by the manual method in two cases.The results show a good agreement,verifying the reliability and accuracy of the proposed method.The main contribution of this paper is to use knowledge of coordinate rotation to determine the actual geographic location of the model through a square target.The equipment used in this study is simple,and photogrammetric field surveys are easy to carry out. 展开更多

Comprehensive experiments including monotonic tension and monotonic compression of specimens taken from a rolled AZ31B Mg thick plate along five different material orientations with respect to the rolled direction(RD),and free-end torsion of a tubular specimen machined along the thickness direction(ND)were conducted.The experimental results were used to evaluate an elastic-viscoplastic self-consistent model with the consideration of twinning and detwinning(EVPSC-TDT)on magnesium(Mg)alloys.The EVPSC-TDT model provides stress-strain curves and the hardening rates in close agreement with the experimental results of all the 11 loading cases.The model adequately predicts the textures after fracture of all the 11 loading cases and the evolutions of tension twins with increasing strains for tension in the ND,compression in the RD,and torsion along the ND.The Swift effect was observed in the experiment and was properly simulated by the model. 展开更多

The thermal expansion behavior of sintered Nd–Fe–B magnets is a crucial parameter for production and application.However, this aspect has not been thoroughly investigated. In this study, three different sintered Nd–Fe–B magnets with varying Co content(Co = 0, 6, 12 wt%) were prepared using the conventional powder metallurgy method, and four magnets oriented under different magnetic fields were prepared to compare. The thermal expansion behavior for the magnets was investigated using a linear thermal dilatometry in the temperature range of 20℃–500℃. It was found that, the coefficient of thermal expansion(CTE) increases with the increase of Co contents, while the anisotropy of thermal expansion decreases.The introduction of Co leads to continuous changes from negative to positive thermal expansion in the vertically oriented direction, which is important for the development of zero thermal expansion magnets. The thermal expansion of nonoriented magnets was found to be isotropic. Additionally, the anisotropy of thermal expansion increases with the increase of orientation degree. These results have important implications for the development of sintered Nd–Fe–B with controllable CTE. 展开更多

Based on learning motivation theory and metacognitive theory, the present study reports questionnaire surveys on correlation between motivation orientations and listening metacognitive strategies among 117 English majors. Findings suggest that: 1) English majors are mainly stimulated by instrumental motivation and show bias towards planning and evaluation strategy in listening comprehension; 2) there is a significant positive correlation between instrumental motivation and strategy of planning and evaluation; 3) significant difference between high motive group and low motive group only exists in planning and evaluation strategy. Therefore, teachers are encouraged to help students strengthen the training of listening metacognitive strategies form long-lasting motivation and promote listening proficiency as well as self-learning ability. 展开更多

Perovskite film quality is a decisive factor governing the performance and long-term stability of perovskite solar cells(PSCs). To passivate defects for high-quality perovskite films, various additives have been explored in perovskite precursor with notable achievements in the development of highperformance PSCs. Herein, tartaric acid(TA) was applied as additive in perovskite precursor solution to modulate the crystal growth leading to high quality thin films with enhanced multiple preferential orientations favoring efficient charge transport along multiple directions. It is also noticed that TA can improve the energy level alignment in PSCs, which effectively accelerates both carrier extraction and transportation with non-radiative recombination suppressed at the perovskite interfaces. Based on the present perovskite films, the fabricated PSCs achieved an excellent champion power conversion efficiency(PCE) of 21.82% from that of 19.70% for the control device without TA additive. In addition, a PSC with TA additive was shown to exhibit impressive operational stability by retaining 92% of its initial PCE after~1200 h of aging at room temperature in ambient air with a relative humidity of about 10%–25%. In summary, the present work demonstrates a facile and versatile approach by using TA as additive in perovskite precursor to fabricate high quality perovskite films with enhanced multiple preferential orientations for high-efficiency stable PSCs. 展开更多

The understanding of the influence of electrode characteristics on charge transport is essential in the field of molecular electronics.In this work,we investigate the electronic transport properties of molecular junctions comprising methylthiolterminated permethyloligosilanes and face-centered crystal Au/Ag electrodes with crystallographic orientations of(111)and(100),based on the ab initio quantum transport simulations.The calculations reveal that the molecular junction conductance is dominated by the electronic coupling between two interfacial metal–S bonding states,which can be tuned by varying the molecular length,metal material of the electrodes,and crystallographic orientation.As the permethyloligosilane backbone elongates,although theσconjugation increases,the decreasing of coupling induced by the increasing number of central Si atoms reduces the junction conductance.The molecular junction conductance of methylthiol-terminated permethyloligosilanes with Au electrodes is higher than that with Ag electrodes with a crystallographic orientation of(111).However,the conductance trend is reversed when the electrode crystallographic orientation varies from(111)to(100),which can be ascribed to the reversal of interfacial coupling between two metal–S interfacial states.These findings are conducive to elucidating the mechanism of molecular junctions and improving the transport properties of molecular devices by adjusting the electrode characteristics. 展开更多

In this research, effect of varying spatial orientations on the build time requirements for fused deposition modelling process is studied. Constructive solid geometry cylindrical primitive is taken as work piece and modeling is accomplished for it. Response surface methodology is used to design the experiments and obtain statistical models for build time requirements corresponding to different orientations of the given primitive in modeller build volume. Contour width, air gap, slice height, raster width, raster angle and angle of orientation are treated as process parameters. Percentage contribution of individual process parameter is found to change for build time corresponding to different spatial orientations. Also, the average of build time requirement changes with spatial orientation. This paper attempts to clearly discuss and describe the observations with an aim to develop a clear understanding of effect of spatial variations on the build time for Fused Deposition Modelling process. This work is an integral part of process layout optimization and these results can effectively aid designers specially while tackling nesting issues. 展开更多

Geckos can move quickly in various environments by efficiently controlling their complex adhesive toe pads.The locomotion behaviours observed in the attachment-detachment(A-D)cycle of their toe pads in response to changes in their environment should be studied to understand the adaptive behavioural characteristics of such toe pads.The lack of systematic research on the entire A-D cycle,including the release,swing,contact,and adhesion stages,limits the comprehension of the adhesive locomotion mechanism.The A-D cycle of Gekko gecko that facilitates the foot locomotion on inclined and vertical surfaces was investigated to clarify the locomotion behaviours in different stages.Results show that the change trends of foot locomotor angles(yaw and pitch)during the entire A-D cycle remain unchanged in response to various substrates.The bending angles(fore 41°;hind 51°)and contact time percentages(fore 7.42%;hind 7.44%)in the contact stage as well as the forefoot angle ranges(yaw:163.09°;pitch:308.68°)in the A-D cycle also remain constant across all substrates.These invariant foot locomotion behaviours during the swing and contact stages suggest that the foot behaviours are weakly related to the forces acting on the foot,which change according to the environment.Furthermore,the forefoot and hindfoot have different anatomical structure and functional demands,thus,the angle range of forefoot locomotion is larger than that of hindfoot locomotion,and the pitch angle change trend of the forefoot is opposite to that of the hindfoot.The diverse and complex locomotion control of the adhesive toe pads for various environments is reduced by the consistent behaviours in the gecko’s A-D cycle,such as the constant postures in the swing and contact stages.This study provides insight into the adhesive locomotion mechanism of geckos and can facilitate further research on the effective design and control of adhesion robots. 展开更多

Two-dimensional halide perovskites,emerging materials with quantum well structures,demonstrate excellent physical properties,such as easily tunable band structures,hot-phonon bottleneck,photo-induced phase segregation,and spin-orbit coupling,and therefore hold great potential for various optoelectronic devices.Interestingly,this class of perovskite materials also possesses a unique anisotropic feature,and their orientations can highly affect their charge carrier behaviors and other related properties.Therefore,effectively controlling the orientation of two-dimensional halide perovskites is of vital importance.So far,various methods,on the basis of different mechanisms have been developed to modulate the orientation,particularly the out-ofplane orientation.Herein,we summarize recent advances in these strategies for enabling the out-of-plane orientation for twodimensional perovskites.We then systematically review the possible principles for tunning the orientation,followed by an overview of the remaining problems,particularly the microscopic mechanisms behind these modulation methods and their influences,and the future perspectives. 展开更多

Endovascular aortic repair(EVAR)has been increasingly used to treat abdominal aortic aneurysm(AAA)due to its lower mortality and shorter recovery time.However,the complications caused by renal artery coverage remained a major concern.In this study,three types of renal orientation and five types of partial renal coverage degree were adopted to numerically investigate the flow pattern,wall shear stress distribution,and blood perfusion during a cardiac cycle.The results show that as for the mild partial coverage(=<30%),the renal artery with a downward orientation suffered fewer unfavorable wall shear stress(WSS)distribution and more blood perfusion.It should be noted that the renal artery with horizontal orientation suffered more unfavorable WSS distribution.In terms of severe coverage(≥50%),all of the renal arteries displayed highly disturbed wall shear distribution,resulting in a significant reduction in blood perfusion It was interesting to note that the artery with an upward orientation had a smaller rate of reduction in blood perfusion.It can be concluded that as for the mild renal coverage after EVAR,renal arteries with downward orientation may have the advantage of reducing the possibility of renal occlusion,while renal arteries with horizontal orientation may increase the unfavorable wall shear distribution.On the other hand,as for serious coverage(≥50%),high risk of renal ischemia remains the main concern for all types of renal arteries due to highly disturbed wall shear distribution would significantly increase regardless of renal orientation. 展开更多

An in-depth understanding of the crystal orientation evolution during hot rolling of TiB whisker(TiBw)/TA15 composites and the anisotropy of the as-rolled plates can help fully utilize the material proper-ties.In this paper,the crystal plasticity finite element models of high-temperature(HT)β-phase and room-temperature(RT)α-phase were constructed from electron backscattering diffraction data.Based on this,the orientation evolution during hot rolling in the single-phase region and the effects of the matrix texture on the mechanical properties of the as-rolled plates were analyzed.The effect of TiBw on the anisotropy was studied by the composites finite element model.Results showed that theα-fiber texture of theβ-phase was formed during HT rolling.This texture was converted to the T-texture of theα-phase at RT during cooling according to the Burgers orientation relationships.The TiBw had little effect on the matrix texture composition.The TiBw and matrix texture caused the matrix to have higher strength along the rolling direction and the transverse direction,respectively.The matrix texture dominated the difference in mechanical properties because its effect exceeded that of TiBw.The effect of the matrix on the mechanical properties was caused by the Schmid factors(SFs)and the critical resolved shear stress(CRSS)of the slip system together.The slip mode was influenced by SFs determined by the angular rela-tionship between the crystal orientation and the loading direction.The CRSS of the activated slip system determined the yield strength. 展开更多

Crystallographic texture control is a major challenge in directionally solidified multiphase eutectic ceramics with complex faceted growth characteristics.In this study,the Czochralski(CZ)technique is proposed to prepare eutectic single crystal ceramic with large size(30 mm×125 mm).A highly oriented and unique texture of Al_(2)O_(3)/Y_(3)Al_(5)O_(12)(YAG)eutectic ceramic is formed via the 112¯0Al_(2)O_(3) single crystal seed induction based on crystallographic orientation tailoring.The orientations of Al_(2)O_(3)/YAG eutectic are more strictly constrained by single crystal seed induction on the basis of the minimum interface energy principle,resulting in a defined single orientation relationship along the solidification direction.In particular,the single crystallographic orientation can be obtained in a short competitive solidification distance under the influence of epitaxial solidification from single crystal seed.Therefore,it has been confirmed that the orientations of 112¯0Al_(2)O_(3) and 111YAG are preferentially stabilized with the minimum under-cooling during directional solidification.Crystallographic orientation disturbances and instabilities due to polycrystalline crystal seed are avoided.Finally,the successful texture control inducted by 112¯0Al_(2)O_(3) single crystal seed can provide a promising orientation design pathway for faced oxide eutectic solidification. 展开更多

Directionally solidified dual-phase Al_(2)O_(3)/Y_(3)Al_(5)O_(12)(YAG)eutectic ceramics(DSECs)typically exhibit strong anisotropy.To improve their properties,various single-phase sapphire seeds,including r-axis[1-102],m-axis[10-10],c-axis[0001],and a-axis[11-20],were used as seeds to induce the orientation of the Al_(2)O_(3)/YAG DSECs.The results showed that Al_(2)O_(3) in the eutectics could be governed by the sapphire seeds.The YAG in each induced eutectic had a specific growth direction endowed by Al_(2)O_(3) in the asinduced eutectics or the sapphire seed.Herein,we calculated the planar lattice misfits and interfacial strain energies of four crystallographic orientation relationships based on the constructed lattice models.It was elucidated the constraint of the sapphire seed caused YAG to grow following the rule of mini-mizing the interfacial strain energy.This revealed the reason why Al_(2)O_(3)/YAG DSECs orientation can be successfully induced.These results may provide a novel method for the design of high-performance eu-tectic ceramic materials. 展开更多

基于改进Oriented R-CNN的旋转框麦穗检测与计数模型

为对干扰、遮挡等复杂的田野环境中麦穗进行精准定位与计数,该研究提出了一种改进的Oriented R-CNN麦穗旋转框检测与计数方法,首先在主干网络中引入跨阶段局部空间金字塔(spatial pyramid pooling cross stage partial networks,SPPCSPC... 为对干扰、遮挡等复杂的田野环境中麦穗进行精准定位与计数,该研究提出了一种改进的Oriented R-CNN麦穗旋转框检测与计数方法,首先在主干网络中引入跨阶段局部空间金字塔(spatial pyramid pooling cross stage partial networks,SPPCSPC)模块扩大模型感受野,增强网络感知能力;其次,在颈网络中结合路径聚合网络(PANet,path aggregation network)和混合注意力机制(E2CBAM,efficient two convolutional block attention module),丰富特征图包含的特征信息;最后采用柔性非极大值抑制算法(Soft-NMS,soft-non maximum suppression)优化预测框筛选过程。试验结果显示,改进的模型对复杂环境中的麦穗检测效果良好。相较原模型,平均精确度均值mAP提高了2.02个百分点,与主流的旋转目标检测模型Gliding vertex、R3det、Rotated Faster R-CNN、S2anet和Rotated Retinanet相比,mAP分别提高了4.99、2.49、3.94、2.25和4.12个百分点。该研究方法利用旋转框准确定位麦穗位置,使得框内背景区域面积大幅度减少,为实际观察麦穗生长状况和统计数量提供了一种有效的方法。 展开更多

Background:Natural ecosystems provide necessary services for human beings,including ecosystem service values(ESVs)and socioeconomic service values(SSVs).The value orientations of ESVs and SSVs are mainly related to people’s interaction with nature.This study reclassified greenspace from a perspective of exposed and non-exposed greenspace based on the level of interaction by people and greenspace.We applied an expert questionnaire to survey the SSVs value orientations of forestland,grassland,wetland,and water bodies,and quantitatively compared the value orientations between the ESVs and SSVs of greenspace in China.Result:(1)The values of exposed greenspace were relatively far higher than nonexposed greenspace,as it had both ESVs and SSVs.(2)The forestland and grassland had relatively high ESVs and SSVs,and are the priority for both the exposed and non-exposed greenspace.(3)Wetland had relatively high ESVs but low SSVs,which was unpopular for exposed greenspace.(4)The ESVs and SSVs of water body were relatively balanced.Conclusion:Greenspace had both ESVs and SSVs when they are exposed to human.Our study provided an innovative perspective to explore the value orientations of greenspace,which provides an actionable scientific basis for greenspace planning,design and construction in human habitat. 展开更多
