The oscillation of the fluid in the air chamber is a fluid oscillation phenomenon with a natural period, similar to fluid oscillation in a container such as sloshing. Previous research has shown that for an oscillating water column with a single air chamber submerged in water, the oscillation characteristics can be modeled as a one-degree-of-freedom oscillation system that takes only a single oscillation mode into account. However, a double-slit breakwater integrated oscillating water column wave energy converter using two water columns of the breakwater separated by slit walls, has been verified to have two resonance periods. In this study, the free oscillating motion of the oscillating water column wave energy converter using the double-slit breakwater is modeled by modal superposition method including the first-order and second-order modes of vertical motion of the two water surfaces. Being excited by waves, the buoy heaves up and down to convert wave energy into electricity by means of a mechanical or hydraulic device. Compared with an Oscillating Water Column (OWC) wave power device, the OD has the same capture width ratio as the OWC does, but much higher secondary conversion efficiency. Moreover, the chamber of the OWC, which is the most expensive and difficult part to be built, is not necessary for the OD, so it is easier to construct an OD. In this paper, a numerical calculation is conducted for an optimal design of the OD firstly, then a model of the device is built and, a model test is carried out in a wave tank. The results show that the total efficiency of the OD is much higher than that of the OWC and that the OD is a promising wave power device.展开更多

This ability is the result of the coordinated movement of fins which extend from the body. We have embarked on a research program designed to develop an agile and high efficient biologically inspired robotic fish based on the performance of hybrid mechanical fms. To accomplish this goal, a mechanical ray-like fin actuated by Shape Memory Alloy (SMA) is developed, which can realize both oscillatory locomotion and undulatory locomotion. We first give a brief introduction on the mechanical structure of our fin and then carry out theoretic analysis on force generation. Detailed information of these theoretical results is later revealed by Computational Huid Dynamic (CFD), and is final validated by experiments. This robotic fin has potential application as a propulsor for future underwater vehicles in addition to being a valuable scientific instrument.展开更多

According to the experimental results, the oscillating arc has effect on the droplet transfer mode. The droplet transfer frequency in narrow gap groove is higher than that in bead-on-plate welding. Because of the change of arc location in narrow gap groove, the droplet transfer in oscillating arc narrow gap changes regularly. The droplet transfer frequency near groove sidewall is higher than that at the middle of narrow gap groove.展开更多

Tests are carried out in a U-shaped oscillatory water tunnel with a box imbedded in the bottom of the test section. By use of the standard sand, clay and plastic grain as the seabed material, the influence of the bed material on the scour is studied. The relationship between the critical initial gap-to-diameter ratio above which no scour occurs and the parameters of the oscillating flow is obtained. The self-burial phenomenon. which occurs for the pipeline not fixed to two sidewalls of the test section, is not observed for the Bred pipeline. The effect of the pipe on sand wave formation is discussed. The maximum equilibrium scour depths For different initial gap-to-diameter ratios, different Kc numbers and different bed sands are also given in this paper.展开更多

An important consideration is the self-starting capability of the Wells turbine, a phenomenon encountered where the turbine accelerate by itself up to a certain speed for the best turbine performance. In order to clarify the self-starting characteristic and running performance of the Wells turbine in an irregular oscillating flow, a numerical simulation process is established in this paper on the rational assumption of quasi-steady flow conditions, Both self-starting characteristics and running performance are obtained through the numerical simulation and subsequently compared with the experimental data achieved on a computer-controlled oscillating flow test rig which could realize some irregular oscillating flow according to the specified spectrum. Results show that the self-starting time decreases with the increase of the significant wave height and the mean frequency of the irregular oscillating flow, Therefore, it is possible to predict accurately the performance of the Wells turbine by computer simulation.展开更多

The method relies on the linear relationship between the change in oscillation period of the system and the concentration of heroin, with a detecting limit of 4.0×10^(-7) mol/L. The calibration curve fits a linear equation very well when the concentration of heroin is in the range of 2.0×10^(-6)_1.2×10^(-5) mol/L(r=0.9971). This method features good precision(RSD=0.98%). The influences of temperature, injection point, flow rate and reaction variables on the oscillation period were investigated in detail and a possible mechanism of the performance of heroin in the Cu(Ⅱ)-catalyzed oscillating reaction system is also discussed. The proposed method opens a new avenue for the determination of heroin.展开更多

However, a common error exists in the methods of designing planar profile for oscillating follower cylinder cam. In this study, we propose a new hypothesis to solve this design problem with the inclusion of deviation angle. On the basis of this new concept, equations for planar profile expansion and methods of calculating pressure angle are deduced by applying 3D expansion formula of the follower's motion orbit. When the pressure angle is less than allowable value, the minimum base radius can be determined by using MATLAB software. Accordingly, the planar profile of oscillating follower cylinder cam is generated by CAD software. This new method is practical and can be easily adopted for the design of oscillating follower cylindrical cam with desirable accuracy. We applied the method in the design of cylindrical cam for paper feeding mechanism used in high-speed printers. We calculated the planar profile and used it to direct the NC machine for the manufacture of the groove of cylindrical cam. The improved cylindrical cam met all of the requirements of speed and accuracy demanded by high-speed printers. Therefore, our new method has been validated by practical application.展开更多

Each cylinder can oscillate independently in any rigid oscillation mode with a prescribed amplitude, including translational and rotational modes such as surge, sway, heave, pitch, roll, and their combinations. Based on the eigenfunction expansion and Graf's addition theorem for Bessel functions, we developed an analytical method that includes the effects of evanescent modes in order to analyze such arrays of cylinders. To investigate the effects of several influential factors on convergence, our objective is to dramatically reduce the number of tests required and determine the influencing relationships between truncation number and convergence behavior for different factor combinations. We use the orthogonal test method to fulfill the objective. Lastly, we present our results regarding the effects of evanescent modes on hydrodynamic coefficients.展开更多

The results show that the total efficiency of the OD is much higher than that of the OWC and that the OD is a promising wave power device.

文摘Oscillating Water Column (OWC) wave energy converting system is one of the most widely used facilities all over the world. The air chamber is utilized to convert the wave energy into the pneumatic energy. The numerical wave tank based on the two-phase VOF model is established in the present study toinvestigate the operating performance of OWC air chamber. The RANS equations, standard k-ε turbulence model and dynamic mesh technology are employed in the numerical model. The effects of incident wave conditions and shape parameters on the wave energy converting efficiency are studied and the capability of the present numerical wave tank on the corresponding engineering application is validated.
文摘Fishes are famous for their ability to position themselves accurately even in turbulent flows. This robotic fin has potential application as a propulsor for future underwater vehicles in addition to being a valuable scientific instrument.

文摘In this paper, the droplet transfer in oscillating arc narrow gap gas metal arc ( GMA ) welding was studied. The droplet transfer frequency near groove sidewall is higher than that at the middle of narrow gap groove.

文摘The hydrodynamic behaviour of an oscillating wave surge converter(OWSC) in large motion excited by nonlinear waves is investigated. The mechanism through which the wave energy is absorbed in the nonlinear system is analysed. The mathematical model used is based on the velocity potential theory together with the fully nonlinear boundary conditions on the moving body surface and deforming free surface. The problem is solved by the boundary element method. Numerical results are obtained to show how to adjust the mechanical properties of the OWSC to achieve the best efficiency in a given wave, together with the nonlinear effect of the wave height. Numerical results are also provided to show the behaviour of a given OWSC in waves of different frequencies and different heights.

文摘The scour of the seabed under a pipeline is studied experimentally in this paper. The maximum equilibrium scour depths For different initial gap-to-diameter ratios, different Kc numbers and different bed sands are also given in this paper.

文摘The Wells turbine is an axial-flow air-turbine designed to extract energy from ocean waves. Results show that the self-starting time decreases with the increase of the significant wave height and the mean frequency of the irregular oscillating flow, Therefore, it is possible to predict accurately the performance of the Wells turbine by computer simulation.

文摘A new analytical method is proposed for the determination of heroin based on a sequential perturbation caused by trace amounts of heroin in the Cu(Ⅱ)-catalyzed oscillating reaction between hydrogen peroxide and sodium thiocyanate in an alkaline medium with the aid of a continuous-flow stirred tank reactor(CSTR). The proposed method opens a new avenue for the determination of heroin.

文摘The distribution and concentration of dissolved oxygen(DO)play important roles in aerobic heterotroph activities and some slow chemical reactions, and can affect the water quality, biological communities, and ecosystem functions of rivers and lakes. In this work, the transport of high Schmidt number DO at the sediment-water interface of spanwise oscillating flow is investigated. The volume-averaged Navier-Stokes(VANS)equations and Monod equation are used to describe the flow in the sediment layer and the sediment oxygen demand of microorganisms. The phase-averaged velocities and concentrations of different amplitudes and periods are studied. The dependence of DO transfer on the amplitude and period is analyzed by means of phase-average statistical quantities. It is shown that the concentration in the sediment layer is positively correlated with the turbulence intensity, and the DO concentration and penetration depth in the sediment layer increases when the period and amplitude of the oscillating flow increase. Moreover,in the presence of oscillating flow,a specific scaling relationship exists between the Sherwood number/oxygen consumption of aerobic heterotrophs and the Reynolds number.

文摘Cylindrical cam with oscillating follower is widely applicable and used in many mechanical devices and machines. Therefore, our new method has been validated by practical application.

文摘In this study, we examine the water wave radiation by arrays of truncated circular cylinders. Lastly, we present our results regarding the effects of evanescent modes on hydrodynamic coefficients.

文摘A new analytical method is proposed to analyze the force acting on a rectangular oscillating buoy due to linear waves. In the method a new analytical expression for the diffraction velocity potential is obtained first by use of theeigenfunction expansion method and then the wave excitation force is calculated by use of the known incident wavepotential and the diffraction potential. Compared with the classical analytical method, it can be seen that the presentmethod is simpler for a two-dimensional problem due to the comparable effort needed for the computation ofdiffraction potential and for that of radiated potential. To verify the correctness of the method, a classical example inthe reference is recomputed and the obtained results are in good accordance with those by use of other methods, which shows that the present method is correct.
