In this paper, the periodic solutions of the smooth and discontinuous (SD) oscillator, which is a strongly irra- tional nonlinear system are discussed for the system having a viscous damping and an external harmonic excitation. A four dimensional averaging method is employed by using the complete Jacobian elliptic integrals directly to obtain the perturbed primary responses which bifurcate from both the hyperbolic saddle and the non-hyperbolic centres of the un- perturbed system. The stability of these periodic solutions is analysed by examining the four dimensional averaged equa- tion using Lyapunov method. The results presented herein this paper are valid for both smooth (e 〉 0) and discontin- uous (ce = 0) stages providing the answer to the question why the averaging theorem spectacularly fails for the case of medium strength of external forcing in the Duffing system analysed by Holmes. Numerical calculations show a good agreement with the theoretical predictions and an excellent efficiency of the analysis for this particular system, which also suggests the analysis is applicable to strongly nonlinear systems. 展开更多

Hilbert-Huang Transform (HHT) is a novel data analysis technique for nonlinear and non-stationary data. We present a time-frequency analysis of both simulated fight curves and an X-ray burst from the X-ray burster 4U 1702-429 with both the HHT and the Windowed Fast Fourier Transform (WFFT) methods. Our results show that the HHT method has failed in all cases for light curves with Poissonian fluctuations which axe typical for all photon counting instruments used in astronomy, whereas the WFFT method can sensitively detect the periodic signals in the presence of Poissonian fluctuations; the only drawback of the WFFT method is that it cannot detect sharp frequency variations accurately. 展开更多

The dynamics of a spacecraft propelled by a continuous radial thrust resembles that of a nonlinear oscillator.This is analyzed in this work with a novel method that combines the definition of a suitable homotopy with a classical perturbation approach,in which the low thrust is assumed to be a perturbation of the nominal Keplerian motion.The homotopy perturbation method provides the analytical(approximate)solution of the dynamical equations in polar form to estimate the corresponding spacecraft propelled trajectory with a short computational time.The accuracy of the analytical results was tested in an orbital-targeting mission scenario. 展开更多

Wavelet transform is applied to reanalyze the low amplitude δ Scuti star HD 52788, which exhibits complex light variations with uncertain frequency solutions. We gain an insight into the strong instability of pulsation present in the star. Based on an estimate of the star's physical parameters, its evolutionary status is determined. An attempt of asteroseismic modelling failed to predict the observed dense frequencies. Because of its varying pulsation spectrum, HD 52788 is a distinctive and very interesting object among δ Sct stars for testing current models of stellar evolution and pulsation. 展开更多

The permeabilities of fault rocks from the rupture of Wenchuan earthquake were measured by using nitrogen gas and distilled water as pore fluids under the confining pressure ranging from 20 to 180 MPa at room temperature. Experimental results indi- cate that both gas and water permeabilities decrease with increasing confining pressure, described by power law relationship, i.e., b = 0.2x10-3kl-0.557. The water permeability is about one order less than gas permeability and also half order smaller than the permeability corrected by the Klinkenberg effect, so-called intrinsic permeability. The differences in the permeabilies imply that the reduction of effective pore size caused by the adhesion of water molecules to clay particle surface and water-swelling of expandable clay minerals contributes to lessening the water permeability besides the Klinkenberg effect. Hence, the liquid permeability of fault rocks cannot be deduced by gas permeability by the Klinkenberg correction reliably and accurately, and it is necessary to use liquid as pore media to measure their transport property directly. 展开更多

At the late stage of continuous casting(CC)ladle teeming,sink vortex can suck the liquid slag into tundish,and cause negative influences on the cleanliness of molten steel.To address this issue,a twophase fluid mechanical modeling method for ladle teeming was proposed.Firstly,a dynamic model for vortex suction process was built,and the profiles of vortex flow field were acquired.Then,based on the level set method(LSM),a two-phase 3Dinterface coupling model for slag entrapment was built.Finally,in combination with high-order essentially non-oscillatory(ENO)and total variation diminishing(TVD)methods,a LSM-based numerical solution method was proposed to obtain the 3Dcoupling evolution regularities in vortex suction process.Numerical results show that the vortex with higher kinetic energy can form an expanded sandglass-shape region with larger slag fraction and lower rotating velocity;there is a pressure oscillation phenomenon at the vortex penetration state,which is caused by the energy shock of two-phase vortex penetration coupling. 展开更多

Single particles moving in a reflection-asymmetric potential are investigated by solving the Schr6dinger equation of the reflectionasymmetric Nilsson Hamiltonian with the imaginary time method in 3D lattice space and the harmonic oscillator basis expansion method. In the 3D lattice calculation, the l2 divergence problem is avoided by introducing a damping function, and the(l2)N term in the non-spherical case is calculated by introducing an equivalent N-independent operator. The efficiency of these numerical techniques is demonstrated by solving the spherical Nilsson Hamiltonian in 3D lattice space. The evolution of the single-particle levels in a reflection-asvmmetric ootential is obtained and discussed bv the above two numerical methods, and their consistencv is shown in the obtained single-particle energies with the differences smaller than 10-4[hω0] 展开更多
