Meanwhile the relation between the optimal ORP ( ORPopt ) and influent C/N ratio was evaluated, in which the influent chemical oxygen demand ( COD ) concentration was stabilized at (290 ± 10 ) mg/L, the influent total phosphorus (TP) concentration was stabilized at (7.0 ± 0.5 ) mg/L. The results indicated that: (1) the ORP in the second anoxic zone had effect on nitrogen and phosphorus removal capability, and the average percentages of phosphorus uptake in ANO2 zone ( ηa ) increased with increasing ORP, i. e. , increasing from 12. 0% at - 143 mV to 22.0%,30.0%,37.0%, and45.0% at -123, -111, -105 and -95 mV, respectively; (2) the ORPopt as function of influent C/N ratio could be calculated by the equation: y ffi 252. 73e〈 -x/3.39) _ 131.01 ; the maximum percentage of phosphorus uptake in ANO2 as function of the ORPopt could be calculated by the equation: y ffi -0.49e(x/15.58) + 1. 51. The ORPopt was the important process control parameter that must be optimized for operation of enhanced biological phosphorus removal ( EBPR ) system. Moreover, ORP sensor is very simple, and the industrial applications of this strategy is practical.展开更多

Sediment samples were collected from Xinghu Lake in Guangdong Province. The ORP dynamics at different layers of overlying water was similar for six experimental systems, whereas those in porewater were significantly different. The ORP in overlying water was 200-300 mV higher than those in sediments. The oxygen penetration depth ranged from 2 to 10 mm in Xiannu Lake sediments. The variation amplitudes of ORP increased with sediment depth, but the mean ORP values were all about 218 mV. The SRP concentrations in porewater maintained at a low level of about 0.049 mg/L because of high atom ratio of total iron and total manganese to total phosphorus. The SRP concentrations and variation amplitudes in porewater increased with sediment depth. The SRP in overlying water mainly originated from S RP transference of the porewater of middle and bottom sediments (3-15 cm). The ORP variation and SRP transfer in porewater played important roles in changing SRP concentrations. A distinct SRP concentration gradient appeared in overlying water when intense exchange occurred at the sediment-water interface; therefore, it was necessary to monitor the SRP concentration profiles to accurately estimate the internal loading.展开更多

This proposal explains the big difference in mass between hadrons (protons, neutrons, & mesons) and their components (quarks), mass difference between nucleus and its individual components (protons and neutrons), massless of gamma photons, abnormal masses of mesons and bosons, and the excess in galaxy masses (dark matter). Also, this proposal shows the exact relation between mass and energy: Strong Potential=−3.04mc2| Electric Potential |=−5.57×10−3mc2Gravitational Potential=−1.22×10−7mc2where m represents the excess in mass due to strong potential, or gravitational potential and represents the decrease in mass due to electromagnetic potential. Released energy here equals potential energy and doesn’t equal decrease in mass using the formula E = mc2. Released energy is transferred to heat, photons, kinetic energy… Finally, proposal will try to describe the relation between photon energy and mass of its components using the general equation of kinetic energy: Photon Energy=1/2mc2m is the sum of the individual masses of its components, while the total mass of photon is zero.展开更多

The experiment was conducted at the Foya Wulleh, Njala experimental site in Sierra Leone during 2020 and 2021 cropping seasons in a randomized complete block design with three replications. A total of 30 genotypes comprising 26 breeding lines, two improved and two local genotypes were assessed. Results showed a significant (p < 0.05) linear relationship between leaf CNP and grasshopper infestation (incidence and severity of damage) among cassava genotypes. Findings showed that the higher leaf CNP, the lower the grasshopper infestation in cassava genotypes. About two genotypes (Cooksoon and Cocoa) had low leaf CNP;three genotypes (TR0020, TR0037 and TR0013) CNP had moderately low leaf CNP;eight genotypes (SLICASS 6, TR0029, TR0032, TR0011, TR0012, TR0016-1/17, TR0002 and TR0010) had intermediate leaf CNP;seven (TR0009, TR0015-1/17, TR0036, TR0022-1/17, SLICASS 4, TR0007 and TR0026-1/17) had moderately high leaf CNP;eight (TR0008, TR0019-1/17, TR0006, TR0005, TR0021, TR0021-1/17, TR0022 and TR0024-1/17) had high leaf CNP;and two genotypes (TR0001 and TR0018-1/17) had very high leaf CNP. This suggests the indirect dependence of leaf cyanogenic potential on grasshopper infestation (incidence and severity of damage) in cassava that could be exploited for the genetic improvement of cassava for improved resistance to grasshopper infestation, nutrition and utilization of the crop.展开更多

These structures are likely to be affected in Chiari malformation. Therefore, SEP abnormalities may provide valuable information in patients with CM. However, the consistency of SEP abnormality or normality with the damage is a matter of research. Knowing whether median nerve somatosensory evoked potential (SEP) is useful in revealing subclinical damage in patients with Chiari malformation is important in the treatment and follow-up plan of the disease. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between median nerve SEP values and the severity of cerebellar ectopia in patients with Chiari type 1 malformation. Median nerve SEP values were obtained from 30 healthy individuals and 146 individuals with Chiari malformation. The cerebellar ectopia degree and McRae line length were measured. SEP values were not significantly different between groups. The McRae line was found to be significantly shorter in the control group than in the Chiari malformation group (p = 0.031). There was no correlation between the degree of cerebellar ectopia and the length of the McRae line (r = 0.002, p = 0.979). Neither cerebellar ectopy degree nor McRae line length had a relationship with SEP values (r = -0.153, p = 0.066;r = -0.056, p = 0.500, respectively). There was no difference in cerebellar ectopy degree or SEP values between the groups with cerebellar ectopy with and without a syrinx (p = 0.899;p = 0.080, respectively). Likewise, McRae line length was not found to be related to the presence of a syrinx (p = 0.139). Median nerve SEP examination was not beneficial for diagnosing asymptomatic-oligosymptomatic Chiari malformation as a subclinical injury, whether accompanied by syringomyelia or not.展开更多

文摘To understand the transfer process of soluble reactive phosphorus (SRP) on the lake sediment-water interface in a mesotrophic shallow lake in South China, the SRP concentrations and the oxidation-reduction potential (ORP) across the sediment-water interfaces were continually monitored. A distinct SRP concentration gradient appeared in overlying water when intense exchange occurred at the sediment-water interface; therefore, it was necessary to monitor the SRP concentration profiles to accurately estimate the internal loading.

文摘According to the World Health Organization(WHO),oxidative stress(OS)is a significant contributor to male infertility.SeminalOS can be measured by a number of assays, all of which are either costly or time sensitive and/or require large semen volume andcomplex instrumentation. One less expensive alternative is to quantify the oxidation-reduction potential(ORP)with the MiOXSYS.In this international multi-center study,we assessed whether ORP levels measured by the MiOXSYS could distinguish semensamples that fall within the 2010 WHO normal reference values from those that do not.Semen samples were collected from 2092patients in 9 countries;ORP was normalized to sperm concentration(mV/10^6 sperm/ml).Only those samples with a concentration>1×10^6 sperm ml1 were in eluded. The results showed that 199 samples fell within the WHO no rmal refere nee range while theremaining 1893 samples did not meet one or more of the criteria.ORP was negatively correlated with all semen parameters(P <0.01)except volume. The area under the curve for ORP was 0.765.The ORP cut-off value(1.34 mV/10^6 sperm/ml)was able todifferentiate specimens with abnormal semen parameters with 98.1%sensitivity,40.6%specificity,94.7%positive predictivevalue(PPV)and 66.6%negative predictive value(NPV).When used as an adjunct to traditional semen analysis,ORP levels mayhelp identify altered functional status of spermatozoa caused by OS in cases of idiopathic male infertility and in male partners ofcouples sufferi ng recurre nt pregna ncy loss, and thereby directi ng these men to relevant medical therapies and lifestyle modificati ons.

文摘Kerogen types exert a decisive effect on the onset and capacity of hydrocarbon generation of source rocks.Lacustrine source rocks in the Liaohe Western Depression are characterized by thick deposition, high total organic carbon(TOC)content, various kerogen types, and a wide range of thermal maturity.Consequently, their hydrocarbon generation potential and resource estimation can be misinterpreted. In this study, geochemical tests, numerical analysis, hydrocarbon generation kinetics, and basin modeling were integrated to investigate the differential effects of kerogen types on the hydrocarbon generation potential of lacustrine source rocks.Optimized hydrocarbon generation and expulsion(HGE)models of different kerogen types were established quantitatively upon abundant Rock-Eval/TOC/vitrinite reflectance(R_(o))datasets.Three sets of good-excellent source rocks deposited in the fourth(Es4),third(Es3),and first(Es1)members of Paleogene Shahejie Formation, are predominantly types I-II_(1),II_(1)-II_(2),and II-III,respectively.The activation energy of types I-II_(2)kerogen is concentrated(180-230 kcal/mol),whereas that of type III kerogen is widely distributed(150-280 kcal/mol).The original hydrocarbon generation potentials of types I,II_(1),II_(2),and III kerogens are 790,510,270,and 85 mg/g TOC,respectively. The Ro values of the hydrocarbon generation threshold for type I-III source rocks gradually increase from 0.42%to 0.74%,and Ro values of the hydrocarbon expulsion threshold increase from 0.49%to 0.87%.Types I and II_(1)source rocks are characterized by earlier hydrocarbon generation, more rapid hydrocarbon expulsion, and narrower hydrocarbon generation windows than types II_(2)and III source rocks. The kerogen types also affect the HGE history and resource potential.Three types(conventional, tight, and shale oil/gas)and three levels(realistic, expected, and prospective)of hydrocarbon resources of different members in the Liaohe Western Depression are evaluated.Findings suggest that the Es3 member has considerable conventional and unconventional hydrocarbon resources. This study can quantitatively characterize the hydrocarbon generation potential of source rocks with different kerogen types, and facilitate a quick and accurate assessment of hydrocarbon resources, providing strategies for future oil and gas exploration.

文摘Spodoptera frugiperda is a highly destructive pest that has become a global problem due to its robust reproductive and migratory capabilities.Transient receptor potential(TRP)channels, which constitute a vast ion channel family, play pivotal roles in sensing the external environment and maintaining internal homeostasis in insects.TRP channels have been widely investigated for their critical roles in regulating various insect behaviors in recent years. In this study,we identified 15 TRP gene loci encoding 26 transcripts in the genome of S.frugiperda and analyzed their expression profiles at different developmental stages. The results revealed that S.frugiperda possesses four TRPC genes, six TRPA genes, one TRPM gene, two TRPV genes, one TRPN gene, and one TRPML gene, while a canonical TRPP is absent. Moreover, the SfruTRPA1 was functionally characterized using the Xenopus oocyte expression system. The results showed that SfruTRPA1 is activated by temperature increases from 20 to 45℃,and there is no significant desensitization after repeated stimuli within the same temperature range.Additionally,SfruTRPA1 is activated by certain natural chemicals, including allyl isothiocyanate(AITC)and cinnamaldehyde(CA).These findings provide valuable insights to the TRP genes in S.frugiperda.

文摘Transient receptor potential(TRP)channels are strongly associated with colon cancer development and progression. This study leveraged a multivariate Cox regression model on publicly available datasets to construct a TRP channels-associated gene signature, with further validation of signature in real world samples from our hospital treated patient samples.Kaplan-Meier(K-M)survival analysis and receiver operating characteristic(ROC)curves were employed to evaluate this gene signature’s predictive accuracy and robustness in both training and testing cohorts, respectively.Additionally, the study utilized the CIBERSORT algorithm and single-sample gene set enrichment analysis to explore the signature’s immune infiltration landscape and underlying functional implications. The support vector machine algorithm was applied to evaluate the signature’s potential in predicting chemotherapy outcomes. The findings unveiled a novel three TRP channels-related gene signature(MCOLN1,TRPM5,and TRPV4)in colon adenocarcinoma(COAD).The ROC and K-M survival curves in the training dataset(AUC=0.761;p=1.58e-05)and testing dataset(AUC=0.699;p=0.004)showed the signature’s robust predictive capability for the overall survival of COAD patients.Analysis of the immune infiltration landscape associated with the signature revealed higher immune infiltration, especially an increased presence of M2 macrophages,in high-risk group patients compared to their low-risk counterparts.High-risk score patients also exhibited potential responsiveness to immune checkpoint inhibitor therapy, evident through increased CD86 and PD-1 expression profiles. Moreover, the TRPM5 gene within the signature was highly expressed in the chemoresistance group(p=0.00095)and associated with poor prognosis(p=0.036)in COAD patients, highlighting its role as a hub gene of chemoresistance.Ultimately, this signature emerged as an independent prognosis factor for COAD patients(p=6.48e-06)and expression of model gene are validated by public data and real-world patients.Overall, this bioinformatics study provides valuable insights into the prognostic implications and potential chemotherapy resistance mechanisms associated with TRPs-related genes in colon cancer.

文摘The Paleocene mudrocks in Ghana’s Tano Basin have received limited attention despite ongoing efforts to explore hydrocarbon resources.A thorough geochemical analysis is imperative to assess these mudrocks’petroleum generation potential and formulate effective exploration strategies. In this study,a comprehensive geochemical analysis was carried out on ten Paleocene rock cuttings extracted from TP-1,a discovery well within the Tano Basin.Various analytical techniques, including total organic carbon(TOC)analysis,Rock–Eval pyrolysis, gas chromatography-mass spectrometry, and isotope ratio-mass spectrometry, were employed to elucidate their hydrocar-bon potential and organic facies.Thefindings in this study were subsequently compared to existing geochemical data on Paleocene source rocks in the South Atlantic marginal basins. The results indicated that the Paleocene samples have TOC content ranging from 0.68 to 2.93 wt%.The prevalent kerogen types identified in these samples were Type Ⅱ and Type Ⅲ.Molecular and isotope data suggest that the organic matter found in the Paleocene mudrocks can be traced back to land plants and lower aquatic organisms. These mudrocks were deposited in a transi-tional environment withfluctuating water salinity,charac-terized by sub-oxic redox conditions.Maturity indices, both bulk and molecular, indicated a spectrum of maturity levels within the Paleocene mudrocks, spanning from immature to marginally mature, with increasing maturity observed with greater depth. In comparison, the organic composition and depositional environments of Paleocene source rocks in the Tano Basin closely resemble those found in the Niger Delta Basin,Douala, and Kribi-Campo Basins, the Kwanza Formation in Angola, and certain Brazilian marginal basins. However,it is worth noting that Paleocene source rocks in some of the basins, such as the Niger Delta and Brazilian marginal basins, exhibit rela-tively higher thermal maturity levels compared to those observed in the current Paleocene samples from the Tano Basin. In conclusion, the comprehensive geochemical analysis of Paleocene mudrocks within Ghana’s Tano Basin has unveiled their marginal hydrocarbon generation potential. The shared geochemical characteristics between the Paleocene mudrocks in the Tano Basin and those in the nearby South Atlantic marginal basins offer valuable insights into source rock quality, which is crucial for shaping future strategies in petroleum exploration in this region.

文摘CO_(2)electrochemical reduction reaction(CO_(2)RR)to formate is a hopeful pathway for reducing CO_(2)and producing high-value chemicals, which needs highly selective catalysts with ultra-broad potential windows to meet the industrial demands.Herein, the nanorod-like bimetallic ln_(2)O_(3)/Bi_(2)O_(3)catalysts were successfully synthesized by pyrolysis of bimetallic InBi-MOF precursors. The abundant oxygen vacancies generated from the lattice mismatch of Bi_(2)O_(3)and ln_(2)O_(3)reduced the activation energy of CO_(2)to*CO_(2)·^(-)and improved the selectivity of*CO_(2)·^(-)to formate simultaneously.Meanwhile, the carbon skeleton derived from the pyrolysis of organic framework of InBi-MOF provided a conductive network to accelerate the electrons transmission. The catalyst exhibited an ultra-broad applied potential window of 1200 mV(from-0.4 to-1.6 V vs RHE),relativistic high Faradaic efficiency of formate(99.92%)and satisfactory stability after 30 h.The in situ FT-IR experiment and DFT calculation verified that the abundant oxygen vacancies on the surface of catalysts can easily absorb CO_(2)molecules,and oxygen vacancy path is dominant pathway. This work provides a convenient method to construct high-performance bimetallic catalysts for the industrial application of CO_(2)RR.

文摘Concrete structures are some of the largest constructions in human civilization.Their manufacture releases CO_(2)into atmosphere, which is partially readsorbed by standing structures, and further release occurs when they are demolished.Concrete is chemically similar to basaltic minerals, both adsorb CO_(2)where they are exposed on the earth's surface.Sequestration of CO_(2)is beneficial to reduce atmospheric concentrations, and thus limit future temperature increases. Therefore, multiple options are being examined for CO_(2)sequestration.For the first time,we compare the CO_(2)sequestration capacity of these two materials. We review previous work quantifying CO_(2)sequestration capacity of both materials and for the first time, compare their potential quantitative roles.Costs of that are compiled,to the extent they have been examined.Costly grinding of these materials to small particle sizes accelerates CO_(2)sequestration,and mycorrhizae in agricultural soils might reduce the associated costs. Both these materials can improve nutrient status in agricultural soils, and limit acidification from external nitrogen fertilization.Limitations are discussed in terms of land-use and material availability, and soil pH conditions. We call for further experiments with these materials that compare CO_(2)sequestration and other biogeochemical processes in agricultural systems across climates, carried out especially where such materials are conveniently available.
文摘The proposal is “mass increases due to strong and gravitational potentials, while it decreases due to Electromagnetic potential”. Released energy is transferred to heat, photons, kinetic energy… Finally, proposal will try to describe the relation between photon energy and mass of its components using the general equation of kinetic energy: Photon Energy=1/2mc2m is the sum of the individual masses of its components, while the total mass of photon is zero.

文摘Electric double layer(EDL)is a critical topic in electrochemistry and largely determines the working performance of lithium batteries. However, atomic insights into the EDL structures on heteroatom-modified graphite anodes and EDL evolution with electrode potential are very lacking.Herein,a constant-potential molecular dynamics(CPMD)method is proposed to probe the EDL structure under working conditions, taking N-doped graphite electrodes and carbonate electrolytes as an example. An interface model was developed, incorporating the electrode potential and atom electronegativities. As a result,an insightful atomic scenario for the EDL structure under varied electrode potentials has been established, which unveils the important role of doping sites in regulating both the EDL structures and the following electrochemical reactions at the atomic level.Specifically, the negatively charged N atoms repel the anions and adsorb Li~+at high and low potentials, respectively.Such preferential adsorption suggests that Ndoped graphite can promote Li~+desolvation and regulate the location of Li~+deposition. This CPMD method not only unveils the mysterious function of N-doping from the viewpoint of EDL at the atomic level but also applies to probe the interfacial structure on other complicated electrodes.

文摘This study assessed the effect of cyanogenic potential (CNP) in leaf tissue on grasshopper incidence and severity of damage in cassava for the identification of parents with desired complementary traits for crossing. This suggests the indirect dependence of leaf cyanogenic potential on grasshopper infestation (incidence and severity of damage) in cassava that could be exploited for the genetic improvement of cassava for improved resistance to grasshopper infestation, nutrition and utilization of the crop.
文摘Acute myocardial infarction(MI)remains one of the leading causes of mortality and morbidity in the global communities.A prevailing topic that has attracted increasing attentions over the past few decades is the so-called heart-brain interaction,in particular following a major traumatic event such as MI.Increased prevalence of depression and other mental disorders has been recognized in cardiac patients after MI,coronary catheterization,or cardiothoracic surgeries. In this review,we focus on the potential pathogenic mechanisms and pre-clinical transcriptomic evidence for identifying potential mediators of post-MI depression. We first summarize the conventional mechanistic understanding that leads to the current clinical management of post-MI depression with the use of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors(SSRIs)and cognitive behavior and exercise therapies. We further envisage a possible role played by certain chemokines,e.g.,Chemokine(C-X-C motif)ligand 12(CXCL12)and Chemokine(C-C motif)ligand 2(CCL22),in serving as signaling molecules to connect the MI-induced heart damage to the pro-depressive changes in brain during the post-MI period.Future in-depth investigations into this chemokine hypothesis will be instrumental in developing new chemokine-targeted therapies for better management of the cardiac patients suffering from post-MI depression.
文摘Abnormal SEP reflects dysfunction of the medial lemniscus and posterior cervical cord. Median nerve SEP examination was not beneficial for diagnosing asymptomatic-oligosymptomatic Chiari malformation as a subclinical injury, whether accompanied by syringomyelia or not.
