This solves the main drawback of traditional weighted fair queneing algorithms- the packet-based calculation of the weight parameters. In addition, this paper proposes a novel service ratio calculation method and a queue mangement technology. The former adjusts the service ratio parameters adaptively based on the dynamics of the packet lengths and thee solves the unfairness problem induced by the variable packet length. The latter improves the utilization of the server's queue buffer and reduces the delay jitter through restricting the buffer length for each flow.展开更多

With network calculus we are able to compute tight bounds on delays,backlogs,and effective bandwidths in a lossless setting applicable to packet-switching networks and better understand some physical properties of networks. In this paper,the basic network calculus concepts of arrival curves and service curves are introduced.Then we provide the approach for modeling leaky-bucket,generic cell rate algorithm(GCRA),constant bit rate(CBR)flow, variable bit rate(VBR) flow with arrival curve.It is shown that all rate-based packet schedulers can be by a simple rate latency service curve.And by applying these fundamental rules of network calculus,bounds on delay, buffer,effective bandwidth for leaky bucket,GCRA,CBR and VBR can be derived and some practical examples are given.Finally,we compare all the results obtained and conclude this paper.展开更多

The present paper proposes a novel switch architecture for packet contention resolution in synchronous OPS network employing the packet circulation in FDLs in a synchronized manner. A mathematical model for the proposed switch architecture is developed employing packet queuing control to estimate the blocking probability for the incoming traffic. The switch performance is analyzed with a suitable contention resolution al-gorithm through the computer simulation. Network coding is able to address output conflicts when fanout splitting is allowed for multicast switching.Hence,it successfully achieves a larger rate region than non-coding approaches in crossbar switches.However,n...Network coding is able to address output conflicts when fanout splitting is allowed for multicast switching.Hence,it successfully achieves a larger rate region than non-coding approaches in crossbar switches.However,network coding requires large coding buffers and a high computational cost on encoding and decoding.In this paper,we propose a novel Online Network Coding framework called Online NC for multicast switches,which is adaptive to constrained buffers.Moreover,it enjoys a much lower decoding complexity by a Vandermonde matrix based approach,as compared to conven-tional randomized network coding Our approach realizes online coding with one coding algo-rithm that synchronizes buffering and coding.Therefore,we significantly reduce requirements on buffer space,while also sustaining high throughputs.We confirm the superior advantages of our contributions using empirical studies.展开更多

To meet all the requests, one increase of the network is not enough. As the number of Internet users and the various networks annex offices in-creases with each passing day, network needs a means of control that would ensure the support of both existing and new applications and services. There is still a need to address a number of issues before it announces the VoIP as the ultimate replacement of the traditional telephone network. The specification is based on IETF RFCs on audio/video transport.It also adds new features to achieve better adaptation to the mobile network environment. In this paper, we propose an algorithm for handover detection and fast buffer refill that is based on the existing feedback and signaling mechanisms. The proposed algorithm refills the receiver buffer at a faster pace during a limited time frame after a hard handover is detected in order to achieve higher video quality.展开更多

Simulated modeling technique is applied to compare the network-level performance of the three multicasting schemes. A conclusion can be drawn from the results that since the hybrid-mode multicasting scheme can increase the multicast success ratio and reduce the packet retransmission times compared with the other two schemes, it is the best choice for delivering multicasting sessions in the optical packet switched networks.展开更多

While optical packet switching remains an attractive switching paradigm in the long run, technical challenges prohibit it from becoming a practical solution for the ever-growing bandwidth hunger during the next few years. Finding a technically viable way to meet the increasing capacity requirement with good scalability and flexibility becomes a clear pursue for the community. Hybrid packet and circuit switching is considered to be one promising technique in realizing high performance switching at low cost and less energy consumption, by taking the advantage of both packet switching and circuit switching. In this paper, we review existing work in hybrid optical packet and circuit switching. We discuss the key technical challenges in realizing hybrid optical packet and circuit switching. We further introduce our ongoing efforts in building a seamlessly transformable packet/circuit-switching node with in a hybrid node, the scheduling complexity with a node running in full packet switching mode. hybrid optical and electronic components.
