As anode materials of electrochemical energy storage system, metal sulfides with high theoretical capacities suffer from issues of materials smashing and deactivation due to huge volume change, resulting in the inferior cycle stability. In this paper,a new strategy of adding sulfur powder into the electrospinning precursor instead of employing sulfur powder during the sulfurizing treatment is proposed to prepare Fe_(9)S_(10)composites(CNF@G-Fe_(9)S_(10)-1).In those composites, most of Fe_(9)S_(10)particles are embedded in the graphene-carbon fibers with multiple protection. As anodes for potassium-ion batteries,CNF@G-Fe_(9)S_(10)-1 display higher rate capacities and more excellent stability(103.2 mAh·g^(-1)at 1000 mA·g^(-1)after 892 cycles)than Fe_(9)S_(10)composites synthesized by the traditional method. In addition,as anodes for potassiumion hybrid capacitors, they also deliver high capacities of102.8 mAh·g^(-1)at 1000 mA·g^(-1)after 100 cycles. The morphology characterization evidences indicate that the surface and integrity of CNF@G-Fe_(9)S_(10)-1 are more smooth and complete than the Fe_(9)S_(10)composites fabricated using a common method without sulfur power in electrospinning precursor. The excellent stability and high capacity of CNF@G-Fe_(9)S_(10)-1 can be attributed to nearly full-wrapped structure of Fe_(9)S_(10)in the carbon matrix arising from the new strategy.Owing to the formation of the structure,Fe_(9)S_(10)particles are protected from the pulverization, and the structure stability of hybrid carbon fibers is enhanced. This study may provide a new strategy for the controllable synthesis of metal sulfide-CNFs and their application for high stability energy storage. 展开更多

The traditional standard wet sieving method uses steel sieves with aperture?0.063 mm and can only determine the particle size distribution(PSD)of gravel and sand in general soil. This paper extends the traditional method and presents an extended wet sieving method. The extended method uses both the steel sieves and the nylon filter cloth sieves. The apertures of the cloth sieves are smaller than 0.063 mm and equal 0.048 mm,0.038 mm,0.014 mm,0.012 mm,0.0063 mm,0.004 mm,0.003 mm,0.002 mm,and 0.001 mm,respectively. The extended method uses five steps to separate the general soil into many material sub-groups of gravel, sand, silt and clay with known particle size ranges. The complete PSD of the general soil is then calculated from the dry masses of the individual material sub-groups.The extended method is demonstrated with a general soil of completely decomposed granite(CDG)in Hong Kong,China. The silt and clay materials with different particle size ranges are further examined, checked and verified using stereomicroscopic observation, physical and chemical property tests. The results further confirm the correctness of the extended wet sieving method. 展开更多

Polyaluminum chloride (PAC) was used as coagulant and suspended particles in kaolin water. Online instruments including turbidimeter and particle counter were used to monitor the flocculation process. An evaluation model for demonstrating the impact on the flocculation effect was established based on the multiple linear regression analysis method. The parameter of the index weight of channels quantitatively described how the variation of floc particle population in different size ranges cause the decrement of turbidity. The study showed that the floc particles in different size ranges contributed differently to the decrease of turbidity and that the index weight of channel could excellently indicate the impact degree of floc particles dynamic distribution on flocculation effect. Therefore, the parameter may significantly benefit the development of coagulation and sedimentation techniques as well as the optimal coagulant selection. 展开更多

Particle number and mass concentrations were measured in Beijing during the winter and summer periods in 2003, together with some other parameters including black carbon (BC) and meteorological conditions. Particle mass concentrations exhibited low seasonality, and the ratio of PM2.5/PM10 in winter was higher than that in summer. Particle number size distribution (PSD) was characterized by four modes and exhibited low seasonality. BC was well correlated with the number and mass concentrations of accumulation and coarse particles, indicating these size particles are related to anthropogenic activities. Particle mass and number concentrations (except ultra-fine and nucleation particles) followed well the trends of BC concentration for the majority of the day, indicating that most particles were associated with primary emissions. The diurnal number distributions of accumulation and coarse mode particles were characterized by two peaks. 展开更多

The Dividing Distribution Function (DDF) method is one of the methods by which the particle size distribution of ultrafine powder can be evaluated from its small angle X-ray scattering data. In this paper, the stability of the solution obtained from DDF method has been investigated through optimizing the coefficient matrix, introducing a damping factor and a least square treatment. All calculations were accomplished with a microcomputer. It was shown that the average deviations of the size distribution obtained are not larger than the assigned random errors to the scattering intensities as long as the corresponding requirements are satisfied. 展开更多

The Reynolds-averaged general dynamic equation(RAGDE)for the nanoparticle size distribution function is derived, including the contribution to particle coagulation resulting from the fluctuating concentration. The equation together with that of a turbulent gas flow is solved numerically in the turbulent flow of a ventilation chamber with a jet on the wall based on the proposed model relating the fluctuating coagulation to the gradient of mean concentration. Some results are compared with the experimental data. The results show that the proposed model relating the fluctuating coagulation to the gradient of mean concentration is reasonable, and it is necessary to consider the contribution to coagulation resulting from the fluctuating concentration in such a flow. The changes of the particle number concentration M_(0) and the geometric mean diameter dg are more obvious in the core area of the jet,but less obvious in other areas. With the increase in the initial particle number concentration m00,the values of M_(0) and the standard deviation of the particle sizeσdecrease, but the value of d_(g) increases. The decrease in the initial particle diameter leads to the reduction of M_(0) andσand the increase in d_(g).With the increase in the Reynolds number, particles have few chances of collision, and hence the coagulation rate is reduced, leading to the increase in M_(0) andσand the decrease in d_(g). 展开更多

In the context of unified hydrodynamics, we discuss the pseudorapidity distributions of the charged particles produced in Au-Au and Cu-Cu collisions at the low RHIC energies of √SNN = 19.6 and 22.4 GeV, respectively. It is found that the unified hydrodynamics alone can give a good description to the experimental measurements. This is different from the collisions at the maximum RHIC energy of √SNN = 200 GeV or at LHC energy of √SNN= 2.76 TeV, in which the leading particles must be taken into account so that we can properly explain the experimental observations. 展开更多

A liquid-solid circulating fluidized bed boiler is designed and built for visualization research by applying the fluidized bed heat transfer and fouling prevention technology to the water side of the boiler. Four types of engineering plastic particles with different physical properties are selected as the solid working media. The effect of particle types on the fluidization and distribution of particles in the boiler is investigated under different feedwater flow rates and amount of added particles by using the charge couple device image measurement and acquisition system. The results show that all kinds of particles can't be normally fluidized and accumulate in the drum at low amount of added particles and feedwater flow rate. The particles with great density and low sphericity are more likely to accumulate. The average solid holdup in the riser tubes increases with the increase in feedwater flow rate and the amount of added particles. The non-uniform degree of particle distribution in the riser tubes generally decreases with the increase in feedwater flow rate and the amount of added particles. The particles with small density and settling velocity have high average solid holdup in the riser tubes under close sphericity. In generally, the smaller the density and settling velocity, the more uniform the particle distribution in the riser tubes.Three-dimensional diagrams of the non-uniform degree of particle distribution in the riser tubes of the boiler are established. 展开更多

The effects of mass concentration and injection pressure on the atomization characteristics of low-viscosity fuel spray are studied in a constant-volume chamber.Microscopic spray parameters are measured by laser diffraction at different axial and radial positions downstream of the nozzle. The results show that the atomization effect is inhibited linearly with the increase of mass concentration. The increase of injection pressure promotes the droplet breakup. However, the trend gradually weakens and becomes more noticeable at high concentrations.Comparing with the concentration, the influence of the injection pressure on the atomization characteristics is dominant.Although low concentration and high injection pressure can promote the droplet breakup, they also increase the probability of droplet collision, resulting in droplet aggregation. This is more evident in low-viscosity fuels. The droplet size increases in the axial direction owing to the aggregation. However, the diameter decreases in the radial direction owing to the outward deflection of small droplets caused by air turbulence and entrainment. In addition, the high-velocity airflow significantly promotes the droplet breakup near the nozzle and spray axis regions and inhibits the aggregation effect. However, the lower-viscosity fuels keep smaller droplet sizes and better atomization in the whole spraying process, which is easier to realize than the higher-viscosity fuels.Overall, low concentration, high injection pressure, and low viscosity of fuel have beneficial effects on the droplet breakup. This is very important for improving the atomization effect of fuel. 展开更多

The key for dust control of coal mine is to clarify the dust concentration distribution and sedimentation in different areas. Both similarity experiment and numerical simulation method have certain restrictions and are quite different from the actual situation on site. In order to study the dust sedimentation regularity of coal mine in large mining height, “filter membrane method” is adopted in this paper, i.e., to dry and weigh the filter membrane before and after sampling, collect the dust of respirable zone on mining face and calculate the dust concentration based on a main airway of 100 m. The result shows that: A large amount of dust will be produced during coal mining, wherein the maximum dust concentration from 6 m upstream to 100 m downstream of coal cutter is 121 mg/m3, while the minimum dust concentration is 61 mg/m3;The dust concentration in return airway is reduced with the distance increases, while the dust concentration at the entrance is 91 mg/m3;A large amount of dust may fall from roof during section advancing and improves the dust concentration of hydraulic support in walking area obviously; The dust granularity of mining face and return airway is 0 - 100 μm, but the amount of respirable dust is higher than 80%, the larger the dust particle size, the higher the dust concentration. Besides, dust in small particle size can be suspended in air flow for longer, but that in large particle size may subside under the action of gravity; To reduce dust exposure, the mining position shall be located in the windward direction of advancing or coal cutter. This research can provide guidance for taking dust prevention measures of working face in large mining height. 展开更多

The discharge morphology of pulsed dielectric barrier discharge(PDBD) plays important roles in its applications. Here, we systematically investigated the effects of the voltage amplitude, discharge gap, and O_(2)content on the PDBD morphology, and revealed the possible underlying mechanism of the U-shaped formation. First, the morphological evolution under different conditions was recorded. A unique U-shaped region appears in the middle edge region when the gap is larger than 2 mm, while the entire discharge region remains columnar under a 2 mm gap in He PDBD. The width of the discharge and the U-shaped region increase with the increase in voltage, and decrease with the increase of the gap and O_(2)content. To explain this phenomenon,a two-dimensional symmetric model was developed to simulate the spatiotemporal evolution of different species and calculate the electric thrust. The discharge morphology evolution directly corresponds to the excited-state atomic reduction process. The electric thrust on the charged particles mainly determines the reaction region and strongly influences the U-shaped formation. When the gap is less than 2 mm, the electric thrust is homogeneous throughout the entire region, resulting in a columnar shape. However, when the gap is larger than 2 mm or O_(2)is added, the electric thrust in the edge region becomes greater than that in the middle, leading to the U-shaped formation. Furthermore, in He PDBD, the charged particles generating electric thrust are mainly electrons and helium ions, while in He/O_(2)PDBD those that generate electric thrust at the outer edge of the electrode surface are mainly various oxygen-containing ions. 展开更多

Pesticide adjuvants,as crop protection products, have been widely used to reduce drift loss and improve utilization efficiency by regulating droplet spectrum. However, the coordinated regulation mechanisms of adjuvants and nozzles on droplet spectrum remain unclear. Here,we established the relationship between droplet spectrum evolution and liquid atomization by investigating the typical characteristics of droplet diameter distribution near the nozzle.Based on this, the regulation mechanisms of distinctive pesticide adjuvants on droplet spectrum were clarified, and the corresponding drift reduction performances were quantitively evaluated by wind tunnel experiments. It shows that the droplet diameter firstly shifts to the smaller due to the liquid sheet breakup and then prefers to increase caused by droplet interactions.Reducing the surface tension of sprayed liquid facilitates the uniform liquid breakup and increasing the viscosity inhibits the liquid deformation, which prolong the atomization process and effectively improve the droplet spectrum. As a result, the drift losses of flat-fan and hollow cone nozzles are reduced by about 50%after adding organosilicon and vegetable oil adjuvants.By contrast, the air induction nozzle shows a superior anti-drift ability, regardless of distinctive adjuvants. Our findings provide insights into rational adjuvant design and nozzle selection in the field application. 展开更多

Particulate pollution is a serious health problem throughout the world, exacerbating a wide range of respiratory and vascular illnesses in urban areas. Urban plants play an important role in reducing particulate pollution. Physicochemical characteristics of ambient particles settling upon leaf surfaces of eleven roadside plants at four sites of Beijing were studies. Results showed that density of particles on the leaf surfaces greatly varied with plant species and traffic condition. Fraxinus chiuensis, Sophora japonica Ailanthus altissima, Syringa oblata and Prunus persica, had larger densities of particles among the tall species. Due to resuspension of road dust, the densities of particles of Euonymus japonicns and Parthenocissus quinquefolia with low sampling height were 2-35 times to other taller tree species. For test plant species, micro-roughness of leaf surfaces and density of particles showed a close correlation. In general, the larger micro-roughness of leaf surfaces is, the larger density of particles is. Particles settling upon leaf surfaces were dominantly PM30 (particulate matter less than 10 μm in aerodynamic diameter; 98.4%) and PM2.5 (particulate matter less than 2.5 μm in aerodynamic diameter; 64.2%) which were closely relative to human health. Constant elements of particles were C, O, K, Ca, Si, Al, Mg, Na, Fe, S, Cl and minerals with higher content were SiO2, CaCO3, CaMg(CO3)2, NaCI and 2CASO4. H2O, SiO2. CaCO3 and CaMg(CO3)2 mainly came from resuspension of road dust. 2CaSO4. H2O was produced by the reaction between CaCO3 derived from earth dust or industrial emission and SO2, H2SO4 or sulfate. A new averaged general dynamic equation (GDE) for nanoparticles in the turbulent flow is derived by considering the combined effect of convection, Brownian diffusion, turbulent diffusion, turbulent coagulation, and fluctuating coagulation. The equation is solved with the Taylor-series expansion moment method in a turbulent pipe flow. The experiments are performed. The numerical results of particle size distribu- tion correlate well with the experimental data. The results show that, for a turbulent nanoparticulate flow, a fluctuating coagulation term should be included in the averaged particle GDE. The larger the Schmidt number is and the lower the Reynolds number is, the smaller the value of ratio of particle diameter at the outlet to that at the inlet is. At the outlet, the particle number concentration increases from the near-wall region to the near-center region. The larger the Schmidt number is and the higher the Reynolds num- ber is, the larger the difference in particle number concentration between the near-wall region and near-center region is. Particle polydispersity increases from the near-center region to the near-wall region. The particles with a smaller Schmidt number and the flow with a higher Reynolds number show a higher polydispersity. The degree of particle polydispersity is higher considering fluctuating coagulation than that without considering fluctuating coagulation. 展开更多

The coarsening behavior of γ' particles in a nickel-base superalloy FGH95 was investigated by means of experimental observations and growth kinetics calculations. The results show that when aging at 1000,1080 and 1140°C for different times, the relation of average particle size to time obeys the cube law ( a /2)3= kt,where k is 15.49 × 103,77.5 × 103 and 230.04 × 103 nm3/min,respectively. The particle size distributions are better fit to the LSW theoretical distributions when aging at 1000°C within 1440 min. The activation energy for γ' particles coarsening is determined to be 288.20±1.79 kJ/mol,which correlates well to the diffusion activation energies of Al,Ti,and Nb in the nickel matrix. This indicates that the coarsening of γ' particles is controlled by the diffusion of Al,Ti,and Nb in the nickel matrix. The coarsening kinetics of γ' particles in FGH95 is predicted as rt 3 = 1.04 × 10 16t exp[-(288200 ± 1790 )/RT]. 展开更多

Internal erosion occurs when fine particles escape from the soil driven by seepage flow, which is considered to be the crucial factor causing the failure of earth structures filled with gravelly soil. The objective of this paper is to suggest an appropriate method to assess internal erosion potential of gravelly soil.By analyzing the sensitivity of soil material to internal erosion, the variable(Dc15/df85)max and the content of coarse particles(Pc)are selected as the evaluation indexes(Dc15 and df85 are the diameters of 15%mass passing in the coarse component and 85%mass passing in the fine component, respectively).A series of gravelly soils with different particle size distributions are tested for internal erosion by the self-made permeameter.Based on the test results,an evaluation method for the internal erosion of gravelly soil is proposed.Gravelly soil is prone to internal erosion when 60%≤Pc<95%and(Dc15/df85)max≥9.5.The proposed method shows good accuracy in evaluating the internal erosion of 36 soil samples from other studies, which confirms the reliability of the method. The proposed method makes it possible to accurately assess internal erosion of gravelly soil, and an alternative method is provided for engineers to determine whether there is a risk of internal erosion in earth structures consisting of gravelly soil. 展开更多
