Using the obtained analytic solutions, the effects of the thermal diffusivity, the temperature-inde- pendent perfusion component, and the temperature-dependent perfusion component in living tissues are analyzed numerically. The results show that the derived analytic solution is useful to easily and accurately study the thermal behavior of the biological system, and can be extended to applications such as parameter measurement, temperature field reconstruction and clinical treatment.展开更多

For the equation under consideration, the thermal conductivity is either depth-dependent or tem-perature-dependent, while blood perfusion is temperature-dependent. In both cases of depth- dependent and temperature-dependent thermal conductivity, it is shown that blood perfusion decreases the temperature of the living tissue. Our numerical simulations show that neither the localization nor the magnitude of peak tempera-ture is affected by surface temperature;however, the width of peak temperature increases with surface temperature.展开更多

Using the extended generalized Riccati equation mapping method, we find analytical traveling wave solutions of the considered BHT equation. All the travelling wave solutions obtained have been used to explicitly investigate the effect of linear and quadratic coefficients of temperature dependence on temperature distribution in tissues. We found that the parameter of the nonlinear superposition formula for Riccati can be used to control the temperature of living tissues. Our results prove that the extended generalized Riccati equation mapping method is a powerful tool for investigating thermal traveling-wave distribution in biological tissues.展开更多

Using an extended mapping method with symbolic computation, we obtain the exact analytical thermal traveling wave solution, which describes the non-uniform temperature distribution inside the bodies. The found exact solution is used to investigate the temperature distribution in the tissues. It is found that the surrounding medium with higher temperature does not necessarily imply that the tissue will quickly (after a short duration of heating process) reach the desired temperature. It is also found that increased perfusion causes a decline in local temperature.展开更多

The study has been carried out for one dimensional steady and unsteady cases using finite element method. Lower percentage of muscle mass and higher percentage of adipose tissue in subcutaneous part of females result lower metabolic rate compared to males. Metabolism is considered as a heat source within the body tissue. The appropriate physical and physiological parameters together with suitable boundary conditions that affect the heat regulations have been incorporated in the model.展开更多

The metabolic rate varies with the activity levels and has different behaviors in nature depending on the physical activities of the person. During the activity, metabolic rate increases rapidly at the beginning and then increases slowly to become almost constant after a certain time. So, its behavior is as logistics in nature. The high metabolic rate during activity causes the increase of body core temperature up to 39˚C [1] [2]. The logistic model of metabolic rate is used to re-model Pennes’ bioheat equation for the study of temperature distribution in three layered human dermal parts during carpentering, swimming and marathon. The finite element method is used to obtain the solution of the model equation. The results demonstrate that there is a significant change in tissue temperature due to sweating and ambient temperature variations.展开更多

An effort has been made to formulate the mathematical model to study the temperature distribution in in vivo tissues of the human body. The mathematical formulation is governed by bio-heat equation together with appropriate initial, boundary and interface conditions. The solution of the model was carried out using variational finite element method and computational simulations. The model describes the exchange of heat between the internal biological tissues and other surrounding media. The effect of external heat source under different conditions of atmospheric temperature and as a local hyperthermic method provides an impor- tant information to the temperature regulation in biological tissues under normal and malignant conditions. Thermal fluctuations at the targeted regions were obtained with respect to various time-dependent heating sources and scattering coefficients. The results obtained may be helpful for clinical purposes especially in the treatment of cancerous tumors through radiotherapy and other local hyperthermic approaches.展开更多
