Especially in case of mangroves, where multiple interests apply, it requires a careful integration of several ecological, economic and institutional factors. The primary objective of this paper is to understand the basis of incentive design and make a comprehensive inquiry into the existing incentive mechanism of participatory mangrove management in Indian Sundarbans. The qualitative and in-depth assessment was derived against a conceptual framework that contains three main determinants: (1) resources availability, (2) control mechanism, and (3) perception of end-users. The study deploys the results of various participatory exercises such as structured interviews with forest officials, focus group discussions with 10 Joint Forest Management Committees and semi-structured interviews with 119 mangrove users. In general, we observed an over-cautious, hierarchical and safety-margin-based incentive design with distinct bifurcation of communities over the adequacy and effectiveness of derived benefits. Although, the incentives are diverse and align well with the overall conservation of mangroves, they are considered to be insufficient by nearly half of the mangrove users. The main issues that were observed to hinder effective community participation can be summarized as (1) serious restrictions on access to economically exploitable mangrove products, (2) passive involvement of vulnerable occupational groups, and (3) lack of trust and conflicting interests between the officials and the communities. Although the existing preventive management of mangroves can be justified considering the magnanimity of the Indian Sundarbans, it can severely impair community participation and emerge as a clear threat to future sustainability. To secure greater participation of the communities, we propose small scale, innovative developmental incentives to supplement traditional forest-resource-based incentives.展开更多

文摘The increasing popularity of the metaverse has led to a growing interest and market size in spatial computing from both academia and industry.Developing portable and accurate imaging and depth sensing systems is crucial for advancing next-generation virtual reality devices. This work demonstrates an intelligent, lightweight, and compact edge-enhanced depth perception system that utilizes a binocular meta-lens for spatial computing. The miniaturized system comprises a binocular meta-lens,a 532 nm filter, and a CMOS sensor. For disparity computation,we propose a stereo-matching neural network with a novel H-Module.The H-Module incorporates an attention mechanism into the Siamese network. The symmetric architecture, with cross-pixel interaction and cross-view interaction, enables a more comprehensive analysis of contextual information in stereo images.Based on spatial intensity discontinuity, the edge enhancement eliminates illposed regions in the image where ambiguous depth predictions may occur due to a lack of texture. With the assistance of deep learning, our edge-enhanced system provides prompt responses in less than 0.15 seconds. This edge-enhanced depth perception meta-lens imaging system will significantly contribute to accurate 3D scene modeling, machine vision, autonomous driving, and robotics development.

文摘The mirid bug Apolygus lucorum(Hemiptera:Miridae)is a polyphagous pest that affects a wide range of host plants. Its control remains challenging mainly due to its rapid reproduction, necessitating an understanding of sex pheromone communication. The recognition of sex pheromones is vital for courtship and mating behaviors, and is mediated by various chemosensory-associated proteins.Among these, sensory neuron membrane protein(SNMP),a CD36-related protein,is suggested to play crucial roles in detecting sex pheromones. In this study,we employed transcriptomic and genomic data from A.lucorum and phylogenetic approaches, and identified four putative SNMP genes(AlucSNMP1a,AlucSNMP1b,AlucSNMP2a,and AlucSNMP2b)with full open reading frames.Expression analysis revealed the ubiquitous presence of AlucSNMP transcripts in multiple tissues, with only AlucSNMP1a exhibiting male-biased expression in the antennae, suggesting its potential role in male chemosensation.Functional analysis using the Xenopus oocyte expression system, coupled with two-electrode voltage clamp recording, demonstrated that the co-expression of AlucSNMP1a with specific pheromone receptors(PRs)and the Odorant receptor co-receptor(Orco)significantly enhanced electrophysiological responses to sex pheromones compared to the co-expression of PRs and Orco alone. Moreover, the results indicated that the presence of AlucSNMP1a not only affected the responsiveness to sex pheromones but also influenced the kinetics(activation and inactivation)of the induced signals. In contrast, the co-expression of AlucSNMP1b with AlucPR/Orco complexes had no impact on the inward currents induced by two pheromone compounds. An examination of the selective pressures on SNMP1 genes across 20 species indicated strong purifying selection, implying potential functional conservation in various insects. These findings highlight the crucial role of AlucSNMP1a in the response to sex pheromones.

文摘It is common to observe the epidemic risk perception(ERP)and a decline in subjective well-being(SWB)in the context of public health events, such as Corona Virus Disease 2019(COVID-19).However,there have been few studies exploring the impact of individuals’ERP within living space on their SWB,especially from a geographical and daily activity perspective after the resumption of work and other activities following a wave of the pandemic. In this paper,we conducted a study with 789 participants in urban China, measuring their ERP within living space and examining its influence on their SWB using path analysis. The results indicated that individuals’ERP within their living space had a significant negative effect on their SWB.The density of certain types of facilities within their living space, such as bus stops, subway stations, restaurants, fast food shops, convenience shops, hospitals, and public toilets, had a significantly negative impact on their SWB,mediated by their ERP within living space.Additionally, participation in out-of-home work and other activities not only increased individuals’ERP within living space, but also strengthened its negative effect on their SWB.
文摘This study investigates the factors that impact farmers'adoption of risk management strategies(RMS)in Pakistan during times of uncertainty. The study examines farmers'adoption of RMS using both multinomial probit(MNP)and multivariate probit(MVP).Data were collected from 382 farmers sampled from four districts in KhyberPakhtunkhwa(KP)province of Pakistan via a multistage sampling technique. This study utilizes the MNP model, considering the assumption of Independence of Irrelevant Alternatives(IIA)and incorporating correlated error terms. The objective is to understand farmers'behavior in risky situations and determine if there is heterogeneity. Results are compared with the MVP model to assess robustness and gain deeper understanding of farmers'decisionmaking processes. The research findings reveal that our results are robust, and farmers behave homogeneously in various RMS scenarios.Farmers adopt RMS individually or in combination to mitigate the adverse effects of natural calamities on their livelihood. The risk-averse farmers, who perceive weather-related risks as a threat, access credits and information, and have farms close to a river are more likely to adopt RMS,irrespective of the format of the strategies available. Moreover, the predicted probabilities and correlation of the RMS and RM categories have strengthened our model estimation. These findings provide insights into the behavior of farmers in adopting RMS which are helpful for policymakers and stakeholders in developing strategies to mitigate the impacts of natural calamities on farmers.

文摘Amidst the swift advancement of new power systems and electric vehicles,inverter-fed machines have progressively materialized as a pivotal apparatus for efficient energy conversion.Stator winding turn insulation failure is the root cause of inverter-fed machine breakdown. The online monitoring of turn insulation health can detect potential safety risks promptly, but faces the challenge of weak characteristics of turn insulation degradation. This study proposes an innovative method to evaluate the turn insulation state of inverter-fed machines by utilizing the fractional Fourier transform with a Mel filter(FrFT-Mel).First,the sensitivity of the high-frequency(HF)switching oscillation current to variations in turn insulation was analyzed within the fractional domain.Subsequently,an improved Mel filter is introduced, and its structure and parameters are specifically designed based on the features intrinsic to the common-mode impedance resonance point of the electrical machine. Finally,an evaluation index was proposed for the turn insulation state of inverter-fed machines.Experimental results on a 3kW permanent magnet synchronous machine(PMSM)demonstrate that the proposed FrFT-Mel method significantly enhances the sensitivity of turn insulation state perception by approximately five times, compared to the traditional Fourier transform method.

文摘It is essential to better integrate wilderness representations of different stakeholders into wilderness conservation. The way in which local residents and other stakeholders frame the construction of wilderness of protected areas in developing countries are poorly understood. In these areas, land use policy and decision may lead to conflicts. This study aims to explore existing public wilderness representations using a questionnaire survey(n=514)administered amongst tourists and other stakeholders in the Wuyishan National Park,in southeast China. The spatial differences in public representations of wilderness across different stakeholder groups were compared against expert knowledge. We found that integrated wilderness representation maps of different stakeholder groups were consistent, namely'area where wild animals live','area with no human influence','a barren and lonely area'.However, three sub-representations of the individual stakeholders varied significantly.Moreover,expert-based wilderness mapping did not reflect public representations accurately, and an integrated wilder-ness quality map considering wilderness representations across both stakeholders and experts can better identify detailed wilderness areas. Our study provides new insights and technical support for future exploration of wilder-ness conservation and mapping in China and other countries with insufficient awareness of wilderness values and investigations in a regional scale.

文摘Smart antennas have received great attention for their potentials to enable communication and perception functions at the same time. However, realizing the function synthesis remains an open challenge, and most existing system solutions are limited to narrow operating bands and high complexity and cost. Here,we propose an externally perceivable leakywave antenna(LWA)based on spoof surface plasmon polaritons(SSPPs),which can realize adaptive real-time switching between the“radiating”and“non-radiating”states and beam tracking at different frequencies. With the assistance of computer vision, the smart SSPP-LWA is able to detect the external target user or jammer, and intelligently track the target by self-adjusting the operating frequency. The proposed scheme helps to reduce the power consumption through dynamically controlling the radiating state of the antenna, and improve spectrum utilization and avoid spectrum conflicts through intelligently deciding the radiating frequency. On the other hand,it is also helpful for the physical layer communication security through switching the antenna working state according to the presence of the target and target beam tracking in real time.In addition, the proposed smart antenna can be generalized to other metamaterial systems and could be a candidate for synaesthesia integration in future smart antenna systems.

文摘Background Bt technology has played significant role in controlling bollworms and increasing cotton yield in earlier days of its introduction,a subsequent decline in yield became apparent over time. This decline may be attributed to various environmental factors, pest dynamics,or combination of both. Therefore, the present biophysical survey and questionnaire were designed to evaluate the impact of Bt cotton on bollworms management and its effect on reducing spray costs, targeting farmers with varied landholdings and educational backgrounds.Additionally, data on farmers'cultivated varieties and the prevalence of bollworms and sucking insects in their fields were recorded.Subsequently, about eleven thousand cotton samples from farmer fields were tested for Cry1Ac,Cry2Ab and Vip3A genes by strip test. Results In this analysis,83% of the farmers planting approved varieties believe that Bt technology control bollworms, while 17% hold contradictory views.Similarly, among farmers cultivating unapproved varieties,77% agree on effectiveness of Bt technology against bollworms, while 23% disagree. On the other hand,67% of farmers planting approved varieties believe that Bt technology does not reduce spray costs, while 33% agree with the effectiveness.Similarly,78% of farmers cultivating unapproved varieties express doubt regarding its role to reduce spray costs, while 22% are in favour of this notion.Differences in opinions on the effectiveness of Bt cotton in controlling bollworms and reducing spray cost between farmers planting unapproved and approved varieties may stem from several factors. One major cause is the heavy infestation of sucking insects, which is probably due to the narrow genetic variation of the cultivated varieties.Additionally, the widespread cultivation of unapproved varieties(21.67%)is also an important factor to cause different opinions on the effectiveness of Bt cotton. Conclusion Based on our findings,we propose that the ineffective control of pests on cotton crop may be attributed to large scale cultivation of unapproved varieties and non-inclusion of double and triple transgene technologies in country's sowing plan.On the basis of our findings,we suggest cotton breeders, regulatory bodies and legislative bodies to discourage the cultivation of unapproved varieties and impure seed. Moreover, the adoption of double and triple Bt genes in cottons with a broad genetic variation could facilitate the revival of the cotton industry, and presenting a promising way forward.
文摘BACKGROUND Tuberculosis(TB)is a chronic respiratory infectious disease that considerably jeopardizes human health, and there is no effective vaccine suitable for its prevention in the entire population.AIM To investigate the promotion of medication adherence and disease cognition in patients with drug-resistant(DR-)TB using detailed nursing management.METHODS In total,114 patients with DR-TB who were diagnosed and treated at our hospital between January 2019 and January 2023 were included in this study.Patients in the control group(n=57)were managed with conventional nursing care, while those in the observation group(n=57)were managed with detailed nursing care.Medication adherence, disease awareness scores, medication safety, and nursing satisfaction were compared between the two groups after the intervention.RESULTS The post-intervention medication compliance rate was 91.23%in the observation group and 75.44%in the control group, with the former being 15.79%higher than the latter(P<0.05).There was no statistically significant difference in the disease awareness scores between the two groups before the intervention;the disease awareness scores of the observation group were significantly higher than those of the control group after the intervention(P<0.05).The incidence of gastrointestinal reactions, joint swelling and pain, hearing loss, electrolyte disorders, and liver and kidney function abnormalities were lower in the observation group than those in the control group. The total nursing satisfaction of the observation group was higher than that of the control group(P<0.05).CONCLUSION Implementation of detailed nursing management for patients with DR-TB can effectively improve medication adherence, enhance awareness of the disease, ensure safety of medication, and improve satisfaction with nursing care.
文摘BACKGROUND Improvements in the standard of living have led to increased attention to perianal disease.Although surgical treatments are effective, the outcomes of postoperative recovery(POR)are influenced by various factors, including individual differences among patients, the characteristics of the disease itself, and the psychological state of the patient.Understanding these factors can help healthcare providers develop more personalized and effective post-operative care plans for patients with perianal disease.AIM To investigate the effect of illness perception(IP)and negative emotions on POR outcomes in patients with perianal disease.METHODS A total of 146 patients with perianal disease admitted to the First People's Hospital of Changde City from March to December 2023 were recruited. We employed a general information questionnaire, the Brief Illness Perception Questionnaire(B-IPQ),and the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale(HADS).We used the 15-item Quality of Recovery Score(QoR-15)to measure patients’recovery effects. Finally,we conducted Pearson’s correlation analysis to examine the relationship between pre-operative IP and anxiety and depression levels with POR quality.RESULTS Fifty-three(36.3%)had poor knowledge of their disease.Thirty(20.5%)were suspected of having anxiety and 99(67.8%)exhibited symptoms.Forty(27.4%)were suspected of having depression and 102(69.9%)displayed symptoms. The B-IPQ,HADS-A,HADS-D,and QoR-15 scores were 46.82±9.97,12.99±3.60,12.58±3.36,and 96.77±9.85,respectively.There was a negative correlation between pre-operative IP,anxiety, and depression with POR quality. The influence of age and disease course on post-operative rehabilitation effect are both negative. The impact of B-IPQ,HADS-A,and HADS-D on POR was negative.Collectively, these variables accounted for 72.6%of the variance in POR.CONCLUSION The quality of POR in patients with perianal disease is medium and is related to age, disease course,IP,anxiety, and depression.
