In the light of the production process of open pit, the functional relationships between investment, mining cost and mining quantity have been defined based on the process of mining and loading so that the relation of the life cycle cost and mining quantity can be set up. And what’s more, in order to obtain the maximum economic profit of mining enterprises in life cycle, the planning model of mining quantity has been established based on the life cycle cost. The rational distribution of mining quantity will have been found on the condition of obtaining optimal solution about the planning model so as to determine scientifically the production scale of mining enterprises from the point of view of the sustainable development.展开更多

Unstable wedges and blocks occurring at the surface of the pit walls may be identified through three-dimensional(3D) image analysis combined with the discrete fracture network(DFN) approach. Kinematic analysis based on polyhedral modelling can be used for first pass analysis but cannot capture composite failure mechanisms involving both structurally controlled and rock mass progressive failures. A methodology is proposed in this paper to overcome such limitations by coupling DFN models with geomechanical simulations based on the discrete element method(DEM). Further, high resolution photogrammetric data are used to identify valid model scenarios. An identified wedge failure that occurred in an Australian coal mine is used to validate the methodology. In this particular case, the failure surface was induced as a result of the rock mass progressive failure that developed from the toe of the structure inside the intact rock matrix. Analysis has been undertaken to determine in what scenarios the measured and predicted failure surfaces can be used to calibrate strength parameters in the model.展开更多

Consequently, there would exist some correspondent symmetry principles and conservation laws within the 3D fixed block model of the deposit and the theory for the optimum design of the open pit mine. Reversing a series of relevant fundamental concepts, several conservation laws, which the theory for the optimum design of open pit mines should obey, as block weight conjugation, block model parity and combined symmetry of the both, were expounded. From the symmetry principle, the theoretic significance for a series of the current optimum techniques was discussed and explained, and a kind of conjugate heuristics which can check the error of itself was presented and demonstrated. Thus it is shown that the symmetry principle lays the foundations and opens up the prospects for the further research with mine design and scheduling problem.展开更多

At present, there are mainly two methods to monitor the geometric deformation of the supporting structure of the pit. One is to monitor the displacements of the tops of the piles; the other is to monitor the deep displacements of the piles. Based on the analysis of the characteristics of both the top monitoring data and the deep monitoring data, a united data processing method was put forward. A model of conicoid fitting model was chosen to describe the deformation surface of the pit, and then the robust estimation was adopted to avoid the influence of the gross errors existing in the observations. It was proved effective and accurate to analyze the deformation of the monitoring surface with this method. The steps of the method were concluded in detail.展开更多

The length of this period depends on the production planning requirements. During the given period, the blocks' parameters are available from the geological database of the mine. The objective is to minimize the deviation of the average ore grade of blasted blocks from the standard ore grade required by the mill. This was done by way of a case study, using 12 terrain and climate representative locations across New Brunswick, Canada. The presence/absence by moss species was determined at each location along upland-to-wetland transects within >10-m spaced 1-m2 forest floor plots. It was found that Bazzania trilobata, Dicranum polysetum, Polytrichum commune, Hylocomium splendens, and Pleurozium schreberi had greater probabilities of occurrence in well-drained forested areas, whereas Sphagnum fuscum and Sphagnum girgensohnii dominated in low-lying wet areas. The presence/absence of each species was quantified by way of logistic regression analyses, using DTW, slope, canopy closure, forest litter depth, ecosite type (8 classes), nutrient regime (4 classes, poor to rich);vegetation type (deciduous, coniferous, mixed, and shrubs), and macro- and micro-topography (upland, wetland;mounds, pits) as predictor variables. Among these, log10DTW and forest litter depth were the most consistent predictor variables, followed by mound versus pit. For the mapping purpose, only log10DTW and already mapped classifications for upland versus wetland and vegetation type were used to predict the probability of occurrences for the most frequent moss species, namely, D. polysetum, P. schreberi and Sphagnum spp. The overall accuracy for doing this ranged from 67% to 83%, with false positives and negatives amounting to 18% to 42%. The overall classification accuracy exceeded the probability by chance alone at 76.8%, with the significance level reached at 75.3%. The average level of probability by chance alone was 60.3%.展开更多
