This study examines the notion of placeness of city center commercial plazas within the context of globalization.Contemporary improvements of commercial public spaces aim to globalize the city image at the expense of ...This study examines the notion of placeness of city center commercial plazas within the context of globalization.Contemporary improvements of commercial public spaces aim to globalize the city image at the expense of local identity and regional characteristics.Although recognized as a major landmark that reflects the globalized image of Nanjing City,Deji Plaza cannot establish a unique sense of place and identity for the community.By adopting a humanist perspective,this study emphasizes peopled experience,perception,and emotional needs of the place as crucial dimensions for improving the relationship between people and commercial spaces.A structural equation model is used to develop a measurement system that evaluates the interaction between the different dimensions of placeness.Findings indicate that optimized locations and environmental characteristics of city center commercial plazas may enhance their image but transform them into consumption spaces for tourists rather than public places for the local community.The results of this study deepen the current understanding and assessment tools of placeness in city commercial public spaces,which are relevant to Nanjing City and similar contexts.展开更多
The place and placeness are believed to be a crucial perspective for comprehending the transformative dynamics of tourist destinations in the context of globalization and the rapid development of the tourism industry....The place and placeness are believed to be a crucial perspective for comprehending the transformative dynamics of tourist destinations in the context of globalization and the rapid development of the tourism industry.As the material carrier of language,linguistic landscape is an intermediary for people to endow emotions and personalities into the place,becoming an effective path for exploring the place-making in a certain area.Mogan Mountain is a famous national tourist resort,which is located in Mogan Mountain Town,Deqing County,Huzhou City,China.This is a good case area for studying the relationship between linguistic landscape and placemaking in tourist destinations.There are two theories that form the theoretical foundation of the study,namely the place and the geosemiotics.Firstly,the results showed the overall style of the linguistic landscape.Multilingual labelling(52.7%),official signs(55.3%),and standardized Chinese characters predominantly shaped the linguistic landscape,with English and other languages being complementary.Secondly,from the perspective of three dimensions of the geosemiotics framework,such as inscription,language preference,and placement position,we conduct a comprehensive semiotic analysis of the linguistic landscape,which encompasses diverse facets such as fonts,materials,shifts in state,text vectors,and symmetrical arrangements.Finally,we explore the influence of linguistic landscapes on the place-making of Mogan Mountain through the dimensions of location,locale,and sense of place.The information on linguistic landscapes indicates the geographical location.These linguistic landscapes play an important role in constructing the language order,nostalgic atmosphere,exotic atmosphere,and elegant and tasteful lifestyle of the public space in Mogan Mountain.Readers of linguistic landscapes,including tourists and residents,generate and identify with the unique sense of place in Mogan Mountain.These linguistic landscapes construct the destination placeness of Mogan Mountain that combines both foreign and nostalgic styles,and the integration of Chinese and Western cultures.It will help promote the image positioning of tourism destinations and have practical guiding significance for the tourism planning,landscape-making,language management,and other aspects of tourism destinations.展开更多
Understanding the foraging behavior is essential for investigating seabird ecology and conservation,as well as monitoring the well-being of the marine environment.Breeding seabirds adopt diverse foraging strategies to...Understanding the foraging behavior is essential for investigating seabird ecology and conservation,as well as monitoring the well-being of the marine environment.Breeding seabirds adopt diverse foraging strategies to maximize energy gains and cope with the intensified challenges of parenting and self-maintenance.Such tradeoff may stem from the heterogeneity of food resources and the constraints of central place foraging.Nevertheless,abundant marine productivity could alleviate the energy limitation for seabirds,resulting in a consistent foraging approach.Here,we investigated the foraging strategy during the breeding season of a cryptic small-sized seabird,Swinhoe’s Storm-petrel(Hydrobates monorhis),in the Yellow Sea,a productive marginal sea of the Northwest Pacific.Using GPS tracking,we evaluated habitat preference,quantified the foraging strategy,and tested if environmental conditions and individual traits influence foraging trips.We found that Swinhoe’s Storm-petrels preferred nearshore areas with shallow water and engaged in primarily short foraging trips.Distinctive southeastward and southwestward strategies emerged when combining trip metrics,including foraging direction,duration,and maximum distance.The bathymetry,proximity to the coastline,and sea surface temperature differed in two foraging strategies.Foraging strategies exhibited flexibility between individuals,potentially explained by wing morphology,in which longer-winged birds are more likely to embark on longer-distance foraging trips.These findings highlight the impact of environmental factors and individual traits on seabirds’foraging decisions in productive marginal sea ecosystems.Our study also provides valuable insights into the foraging ecology of this Asian endemic storm-petrel.展开更多

It ex...The paper considers the mechanism of the Big Bang energy influence on the creation of space-time fields of four structures of the Universe from the 1st type Ether (the Main Field and three spheres of the Relic). It explains how the Big Bang energy leads to the processes of “melting” in these structures, generating emergent properties that are different from their properties before the Big Bang. The key role of the Big Bang in completing the process of formation of 70% of DE is emphasized. It is shown that the Big Bang preceded the emergence of the furcation point, which chose several directions for the creation of cosmic matter—it was the combined efforts of these directions that created the visible worlds. The principle of dynamic equilibrium is considered the main criterion of the space-time field, in contrast to other physical fields, which is a necessary prerequisite for the quantization of the gravitational field. A spin particle is introduced, capable of emitting special particles—spitons, the characteristics of which are associated with the topology of the Mobius strip and determine the spinor properties of gravitational fields. The mechanism of interaction of particles of the 2nd type of Ether with the fields of space-time is described, allowing the creation of matter first and then the materiality of visible worlds. At the same time, the role of the “matter-negotiator” in the creation process of visible worlds of the Universe is especially highlighted. Since the new properties of gravitational fields go beyond Einstein’s standard theory of gravity, it is proposed to build a new theory of space-time that generalizes it and has a clear geometric interpretation. The proposed theory is based on the action built on a full set of invariants of the Ricci tensor. Within the framework of the Poincaré theory, the classification of furcation points is considered. Methods Conditioning place preference (CPP) and conditioning place aversion (CPA) models were used to establish environment associated with rewarding and aversive properties of morphine respectively. Microdialysis and high performance liquid chromatography were used to measure the extracelluar level of glutamate and GABA in the ventral subiculum under these environmental cues. Results Exposure to the environmental cues associated with rewarding properties of morphine resulted in a decrease (approximately 11%) of extracellular level of GABA in ventral subiculum, and exposure to the environmental cues associated with aversive properties of morphine resulted in an increase (approximately 230%) of extracellular level of glutamate in ventral subiculum. Conclusion Environmental cues associated with different properties of morphine modulate the release of distinct neurotransmitters in the hippocampal ventral subiculum possibly through different neural circuit.展开更多

It had put forward design ideas for ecologically livable environment covering humanity, integrity, diversity and culture. The design thoughts were adjusting to local conditions, respecting the site, inheriting the spirit of place, conducting reasonable layout, rationally utilizing water, constructing harmonious plants community, creating comfortable activity place, highlighting theme, and manifesting culture. Ecological and livable concept should be integrated into landscape design.
