A numerical model of radiation has been adopted for electrothermM-chemical (ETC) launcher, in which Monte Carlo method and statistical physics are employed to simulate the process of a capillary plasma source in an ETC launcher. The effect on propellant grains with different average absorption coefficients is discussed. The plasma-propellant interaction is also discussed when combined with a thermal model. Results show that the strong instantaneous radiation is responsible for the transmission of energy to the propellant grains leading to ignition. The efficiency of energy absorption in the propellant bed always maintains a high level. Radiant energy caused by plasma is concentrated around the plaslna injector. And the "hot zone" efficiency is mainly affected by the properties of propellant grains within a small field around the plasma injector. 展开更多

Along with the introduction of the concept of dual-channel communication,we utilized the finite-difference time-domain(FDTD) method to simulate and measure the radiation pattern under certain plasma densities and plasma collision frequencies.Results show that under certain settings,the radiation pattern of a plasma antenna resembles that of a metallic antenna.In contrast to a metallic antenna,a plasma antenna possesses other functionalities,such as dynamic reconfiguration and digital controllability.The data from simulation are similar to the measurement results,indicating that column plasma antenna can realize dual-channel communication.This work confirms the viability of realizing dual-channel communication by column plasma antenna,which adds a new but promising method for modern intelligent communication. 展开更多

The Consideration of Overlapping Lines in the Calculation of Radiative Power Emitted from CH_4 Thermal Plasma

Net emission coefficients of radiation were calculated for isothermal plasma of methane as a function of the plasma temperature 5,000 - 30,000 K and the arc radius 0 mm to 10 mm at atmospheric pressure. Calculations take into account continuum and line radiations, special attention has also been given to the influence of overlapping spectral lines. The line shapes in our calculations are given by convolution of Doppler and Lorentz profiles, resulting in a simplified Voigt profile. In the case of a hydrogen profile, we used the Vidal tables, and the four first Lyman lines and the four first Balmer lines were considered. This calculation was carried out on the assumption of local thermodynamic equilibrium and in a nondiffusive environment. The net emission coefficient calculation for pure argon plasma was compared with the experimental results of Evans in our previous work. We used the escape factor, and our results were higher than those of the experiment. In this paper, we explain why, using the escape factor, the radiation is overestimated. The net emission coefficient obtained from a real spectrum was compared with Essoltani work's which used the line-by-line method for pure argon plasma. 展开更多

The instability of terahertz(THz)plasma waves in two-dimensional(2D)quantum electron gas in a nanometer field effect transistor(FET)with asymmetrical boundary conditions has been investigated.We analyze THz plasma waves of two parts of the 2D quantum electron gas:gated and ungated regions.The results show that the radiation frequency and the increment(radiation power)in 2D ungated quantum electron gas are much higher than that in 2D gated quantum electron gas.The quantum effects always enhance the radiation power and enlarge the region of instability in both cases.This allows us to conclude that 2D quantum electron gas in the transistor channel is important for the emission and detection process and both gated and ungated parts take part in that process. 展开更多

Radiation simulation utilizing plasma radiation sources (PRS) generates a large number of undesirable debris, which may damage the expensive diagnosing detectors. An ultra fast shutter (UFS) driven by pulsed high current can erect a physical barrier to the slowly moving debris after allowing the passage of X-ray photons. The UFS consists of a pair of thin metal foils twisting the parallel axes in a Nylon cassette, compressed with an outer magnetic field, generated from a fast capacitor bank, discharging into a single turn loop. A typical capacitor bank is of 7.5μF charging voltages varying from 30 kV to 45 kV, with corresponding currents of approximately 90 kA to140 kA and discharging current periods of approximately 13.1μs. A shutter closing time as fast as 38 microseconds has been obtained with an aluminium foil thickness of 100 micrometers and a cross-sectional area of 15 mm by 20 mm. The design, construction and the expressions of the valve-closing time of the UFS are presented along with the measured results of valve-closing velocities. 展开更多

A spark generator was employed to assist surface barrier discharge (SBD) in nitrogen at atmospheric pressure. The influence of spark discharge on the SBD electrical behavior is investigated by means of volt-ampere characteristics. Also, the electron density of plasma in the filament of each SBD arrangement is determined by plasma radiation method. It is found that the filaments in spark-assistant SBD are much stronger, while the corresponding mean electron density is much lower. Results show that the spark generator can improve the uniformity of SBD in atmospheric nitrogen in a particular range of applied frequency. 展开更多

This work deals with an experimental study of a Cu planar wire array(PWA)in air and water under the stored energy 300-1200 J.A single Cu wire is adopted as a controlled trial.Four configurations of PWA and a wire with the same mass(cross-section area)but the different specific surface areas(15-223 cm^(2)g^(-1))are exploded.The transient process is analyzed using high-speed photography in combination with the results of optical emission and discharge.Discharge characteristics revealed that PWA always has a higher electric power peak,early but higher voltage peak,as well as faster vaporization and ionization process than the single-wire case.Two to three times stronger optical emission could be obtained when replacing the single-wire with PWA,indicating a higher energy-density state is reached.Phenomenologically,in both air and water,single-wire load tends to develop a transverse stratified structure,while PWA is dominated by the uneven energy deposition among wires.Finally,the synchronism and uniformity of the PWA explosion are discussed. 展开更多

The electron density profile peaking and the impurity accumulation in the HL-2A tokamak plasma are observed when three kinds of fuelling methods are separately used at different fuelling particle locations. The density profile becomes more peaked when the line-averaged electron density approaches the Greenwald density limit nG and, consequently, impurity accumulation is often observed. A linear increase regime in the density range ne 〈 0.6nG and a saturation regime in ne 〉 0.6nG are obtained. There is no significant difference in achieved density peaking factor fne between the supersonic molecular beam injection (SMBI) and gas puffing into the plasma main chamber. However, the achieved fne is relatively low, in particular, in the case of density below 0.7nG, when the working gas is puffed into the divertor chamber. A discharge with a density as high as 1.2nG, i.e. ne : 1.2nG, can be achieved by SMBI just after siliconization as a wall conditioning. The metallic impurities, such as iron and chromium, also increase remarkably when the impurity accumulation happens. The mechanism behind the density peaking and impurity accumulation is studied by investigating both the density peaking factor versus the effective collisionality and the radiation peaking versus density peaking. 展开更多

Based on the theory of plasma continuous radiation, the relationship between the emission intensity of bremsstrahlung and recombination radiation and the plasma electron temperature is obtained. During the development process of a return stroke of ground flash, the intensity of continuous radiation spectrum is separated on the basis of the spectrums with obviously different luminous intensity at two moments. The electron temperature of the lightning discharge channel is obtained through the curve fitting of the continuous spectrum intensity. It is found that electron temperature increases with the increase of wavelength and begins to reduce after the peak. The peak temperature of the two spectra is close to 25 000 K. To be compared with the result of discrete spectrum, the electron temperature is fitted by the O I line and N II line of the spectrum respectively. The comparison shows that the high temperature value is in good agreement with the temperature of the lightning core current channel obtained from the ion line information, and the low temperature at the high band closes to the calculation result of the atomic line, at a low band is lower than the calculation of the atomic line, which reflects the temperature of the luminous channel of the outer corona. 展开更多

An infrared imaging bolometer diagnostic has been upgraded recently to be adapted for the complications of the signal-to-noise ratio arising from the low level of plasma radiation and high reflectivity of low energy photon(〈6.2 eV).It utilizes a platinum foil,blackened on both sides with graphite spray,as the bolometer detector.The advantage of the blackened foil is the light absorption extending into the infrared.After a careful calibration of the foil,the incident power density distribution on the foil is determined by solving the heat diffusion equation with a numerical technique.The local plasma radiated power density is reconstructed with a minimum fisher information regularization method by assuming plasma emission toroidal symmetry.Comparisons of the results and the profiles measured by an ordinary bolometric detector demonstrate that this method is good enough to provide the plasma radiated power pattern.The typical plasma radiated power density distribution before and after high mode(H-mode) transition is firstly reconstructed with the infrared imaging bolometer.Moreover,during supersonic molecular beam injection(SMBI),an enhanced radiation region is observed at the edge of the plasma. 展开更多

Synchro-curvature radiation describes the emission from a relativistic charged particle which is moving and spiralling in a curved magnetic field. We investigate the maser emission for synchro-curvature radiation including drift of the guiding center of the radiating electron. It is shown that under some conditions the absorption coefficient can be negative, so maser can happen. These conditions are different from those needed for maser emission of curvature radiation including drift of the charged particles. We point out that our results, including the emissivity, can reduce to these of curvature radiation. Previously it was found that synchro-curvature radiation can not generate maser in vacuum, but we argue that synchrocurvature radiation including drift can generate maser even in vacuum. We discuss the possibilities of the potential applications of the synchro-curvature maser in modeling gamma ray bursts and pulsars. 展开更多

We examine stochastic particle acceleration in blazar jets to explain the emissions of all blazars. We show that acceleration of electrons by plasma turbulence wavs with a spectrum W(k) ~ k^(-4/3) produces a nonthermal population of relativistic electrons whose peak frequency of synchrotron emission can fit the observational trends in the spectral energy distribution of all blazars. The plasma nonlinear processes responsible for the formation of turbulent spectrum are investigated. Increases in the ioteraction time of turbulent waves can produce a fiatter spectrum leading to efficient particle acceleration. 展开更多
