The dynamic hardness of two kinds of solder joints decreases with indentation depth increase. SACO705 BiNi/ Cu exhibits a higher ultimate dynamic hardness and a smaller indentation depth than SAC305/ Cu. Then the strain hardening phenomenon of SAC305/ Cu is more obvious compared to that of SACO705 BiNi/ Cu. The indentation creep of SACO705BiNi/ Cu solder joint is lower than that of SAC305/ Cu solder joint before and after thermal shock. The creep rate sensitive index of SACBiNi/Cu solder joint is lower than that of solder joint. SACO705BiNi/Cu solder joint is superior to SAC305/Cu solder joint in the anti-creep property. The plasticity of SACOTOSBiNi/Cu and SAC305/Cu solder joints are similar. Compared with SAC305 solder, the SACO705 BiNi solder pe^forms higher hardness and solder creep resistance and still maintains a good plasticity.展开更多

Corresponding numerical tests are carried out at the local level. Characteristics of the model proposed are 1) plastic softening and dilatancy behavior are directly related to the fracture process of joint, and much less material and model parameters are required compared with those proposed by references; 2) the process of decohesion coupled with frictional sliding at both micro-scale and macro-scale is described.展开更多

The simulation experiments of accelerated thermal cycling test were performed by ANSYS software. Based on orthogonal array experiments, a back-propagation artificial neural network (BPNN) was used to establish the nonlinear multivariate relationship between thermo-mechanical fatigue reliability and control factors. Then, PSO was applied to obtaining the optimal levels of control factors by using the output of BPNN as the affinity measure. The results show that the control factors, such as print circuit board (PCB) size, PCB thickness, substrate size, substrate thickness, PCB coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE), substrate CTE, silicon die CTE, and solder joint CTE, have a great influence on thermo-mechanical fatigue reliability of PBGA solder joints. The ratio of signal to noise of ANN-PSO method is 51.77 dB and its error is 33.3% less than that of Taguchi method. Moreover, the running time of ANN-PSO method is only 2% of that of the BPNN. These conclusions are verified by the confirmative experiments.展开更多

This technique makes use of ultrasonic vibration to impact and plastically deform a weld toe and can achieve surface grain refinement of the weld toe, which is considered as the main reason for the improvement of fatigue strength. In this paper, the microstructure of the surface of a treated weld toe was observed by metallographic microscopy and transmission electron microscopy(TEM). The results show that UIT could produce severe plastic deformation on the surface layer of the weld toe and the maximum depth of plastic deformation extended to approximately 260 μm beneath the treated surface. Repeated processing could exacerbate the plastic deformation on the surface layer, resulting in finer grains. We can conclude that the surface grain refinement mechanism of SMA490 BW welded joints is related to the high density of dislocation tangles and dislocation walls.展开更多

This study proposes new nonlinear PA procedures that consider shear failure at BCJs and seek to assess the actual damage to RC structures. Based on the specifications of FEMA-356, a simplified joint model composed of two nonlinear cross struts placed diagonally over the location of the plastic hinge is established, allowing a sophisticated PA to be performed. To verify the validity of this method, the analytical results for the capacity curves and the failure mechanism derived from three different full-size RC frames are compared with the experimental measurements. By considering shear failure at BCJs, the proposed nonlinear analytical procedures can be used to estimate the structural behavior of RC frames, including seismic capacity and the progressive failure sequence of joints, in a precise and effective manner.展开更多

The results show that for shallow crack, the plastic zone turns large in loading process, and the fracture toughness turns high. The extent of the plastic zone of overmatched joint is larger than that of undermatched joint because it will extends to parent metal from the weld metal in loading process for the same CTOD value. The plastic zone of undermatched joint is restricted within the weld, and the size of that is small. Overmatched joint shows the fracture behaviour of shallow crack may more easily than the undermatched joint, while the two sorts of joint specimens have the same crack depth. Therefore, the fracture-resistant capability of overmatched weld is better than that of undermatched weld. when the toughness of weld metals is similar for both overmatched and undermatched joints.展开更多

The regression formula for the effective length of the chord based on test results is established by means of the least square method. The results computed by the present semi-analytic formula are compared with previous results and test data. They are quite close to each other. The accuracy of the present formula depends on the reasonable selection of the effective length of the chord, which requires numerous test data.展开更多
