Iron-Catalyzed Oxidative Deconstruction of Polyethylene Terephthalate to Terephthalic Acid under O2

It is urgent to recycle polyethylene terephthalate(PET)effectively,since it is the most consumed synthetic polyester and its improper disposal has caused significant environmental pollution.The existing chemical recycling methods highly rely on the nucleophilic substitutions and hydrogenative depolymerizations,which typically require the use of excess of nucleophiles,excess strong acids or bases,expensive metal catalysts,and explosive gas atmosphere.Here,we demonstrate a mild and efficient protocol for oxidative depolymerization of PET to terephthalic acid using only an O2 balloon.Terephthalic acid can be recycled from PET-containing materials including a series of plastic products in daily life.The employing of relatively low loading of iron complex,the most earth-abundant transition metal,as the catalyst and the preliminary results on the large-scale reaction using 38 g of PET waste demonstrate the practical feasibility of this degradation method.This method can be also applicable for selective degradation of PET from mixed plastics.This work represents a rare example of a selective oxidative depolymerization and demonstrates the great potentials of such a concept in polyester recycling.

Artistic Classical Chinese Gardens and Construction of Poetic Images in Modern Landscape

With regard to the artistic features of classical Chinese gardens,its ubiquitous poetic scenery is represented through the aspects of spatial sequence,landscape layout,hill piling and waterways dredging,plant configuration,architecture creation as well as various elements in classical garden.Emphasis is given to the close relationship between it and the traditional Chinese poetry and drawing,as it is resulted from the cultural feature of artistic classical garden and as art-and conception-centered as poetry and drawing.The connotation of conception is also analyzed,that is,inter-dependence,imaginary-real design,and correlation.Moreover,reality-and conception-centered methods in classical Chinese gardens are also introduced along with other conception creating methods such as configuration,view borrowing,empathy and symbolism.On this basis,discussion about key elements in conception creation in modern landscape design is carried out while emphasizing the understanding of environment,practice,experience,and method,so as to demonstrate the sense of place and create spatial artistic beauty through wider means.

Registers Study and Poetic Language

Poetic language is distinguished from other roles of language by its creativity in linguistic uses,among which register deviation and register mixing are the most conspicuous.A register study of poetic works is therefore beneficial to our understanding of the works in case.The present thesis adopts a Hallidayian Functional approach to analyze two short poems,illustrating this feature of poetic language and demonstrating a register study in a poetic context.

Development of Eco-Friendly Deconstruction Technologies for Recycling Construction Waste

Recently, the intended use and required performance of buildings are rapidly changing with advances in scientific technology and globalization. Furthermore, given the population growth in semi-developed and developing countries, economic growth, increasing waste, and increasing amounts of energy consumption, the industry requires the development of efficient methods to deconstruct old buildings by reducing waste and saving as much energy as possible during periods of urban redevelopment and maintenance. In general, either an ordinary breaker or a hydraulic breaker is used to deconstruct reinforced concrete buildings. This deconstruction method has the ability to shorten the construction period compared to the other methods, but it is difficult to separate the debris that gets mixed when the deconstruction is completed, as it is a rough construction method that uses large equipment. This study develops a technology that can be used to selectively heat, separate, and deconstruct the steel reinforcement inside reinforced concrete, treating the reinforcement as a conductive resistor and applying high-frequency induction heating to the reinforced concrete structure. Specifically, this study verifies the temperature characteristics of deformed bars inside reinforced concrete, the occurrence of cracks due to thermal fracture of the deformed bars, and chemical and physical weakening of concrete by thermal conduction on the surface of steel reinforcement using the high-frequency induction heating technology. Furthermore, this study considers the extent of concrete weakening in the heating range of appropriate energy and carries out a technical review of the stages that would be actually applied. This technology involves low noise and low pollution levels, and it increases the collection rate of steel reinforcement inside separated reinforced concrete members and the recycling rate of construction wastes;thus, its use is expected to reduce the energy consumption by minimizing secondary processing.
