Application of Composite Ultrafine Particles in ER Fluids

Aim To obtain a kind of electrorheological (ER) flind with high comprehensive properties in order to satisfy the needs of engineering application. Methods A new type of dispersed phase── composite ultrafine particles (UFP) was obtained by the method of microemulsion, which was used to mix with silicon oil. aam electroinduced stress and apparent viscosity of the ER fluids with three different volume fractions were tested under the conditions of different temperatures, electric fields and shear rates. Results A series of systematic tests show that the new type of ER fluids with volume fraction of 30% possesses obvious ER effect. Conclusion The double layers polarization plays an important role in ER effect. 展开更多

A dielectric analysis model for the fouling layer on the polyethersulfone composite ultrafiltration (UF) membrane and solution system, which consists of the solution, concentration polarization layer (CPL), and cake layer, was established by virtue of the interfacial polarization and the electrostatic field theory. The effect of some important parameters, such as the depth, conductivity of CPL, and cake layer, on the dielectric spectroscopy (or dielectric relaxation properties) of the UF system was discussed by the parameter sensitivity analysis and the dielectric measurement. The simulations indicate that the CPL can be created rapidly and the cake layer formation is the dynamic balance process of growth and erosion in the process of UF. The key factor affecting on the dielectric spectrum of UF system is the electrical properties of the CPL and the cake layer. In comparison to the results of dielectric measurement, the simulations indicate that the model proposed in this work is valid and reliable to some degree for describing and explaining the dielectric relaxation phenomenon in UF system. It is very important to further understand the fouling behavior of membrane surface and optimize the controlling techniques of membrane fouling in the process of UF. 展开更多

The velocity dispersion and attenuation of shear horizontal(SH) waves in a layered piezoelectric structure loaded with viscous liquid is studied,where the(1- x)Pb(Mg(1/3)Nb(2/3))O(3-x)PbTiO3[PMN-xPT]single crystal is chosen as the piezoelectric layer.The PMN-xPT is being polarized along[011]c and[001]c so that the macroscopic symmetries are mm 2 and 4 mm,respectively.For the nonconductive liquid,the electrically open and shorted conditions at the interface between the liquid and the piezoelectric layer are considered.The phase velocity equations are derived analytically.The effects of the electrically boundary condition,the viscous coefficient and mass density of liquid as well as the thickness of the PMN-xPT layer on the phase velocity and attenuation are graphically illustrated.The results show that the phase velocity for the[011]c polarized PMN-0.29 PT is much smaller than that for the[001]c polarized PMN-0.33 PT,and the effects of viscous coefficient and piezoelectric layer thickness on the phase velocity for the[011]c case are stronger than that for the[001]c case.In addition,the electrical boundary conditions have an obvious influence on the propagation behaviors.These results can be useful for the designs and applications of acoustic wave devices and liquid biosensors. 展开更多
