The quaternion approach to solve the coupled nonlinear Schrodinger equations (CNSEs) in fibers is proposed, converting the CNSEs to a single variable equation by using a conception of eigen-quaternion of coupled quater- nion. The crosstalk of quarter-phase-shift-key signals caused by fiber nonlinearity in polarization multiplexing systems with 100 Cbps bit-rate is investigated and simulated. The results demonstrate that the crosstalk is like a rotated ghosting of input constellation. For the 50 km conventional fiber link, when the total power is less than 4roW, the crosstalk effect can be neglected; when the power is larger than 20roW, the crosstalk is very obvious. In addition, the crosstalk can not be detected according to the output eye diagram and state of polarization in Poincare sphere in the trunk fiber, making it difficult for the monitoring of optical trunk link. 展开更多

Because of the statistical characteristics and the frequency-dependence of PMD, for current single mode fiber with moderate PMD, the probability that all channels are severely degraded at the same time is extremely small, which makes it possible to compensate a dense wavelength division multiplexing(DWDM) transmission system with moderate PMD using this compensator. It is shown that the outage probability of a 40×43 Gb/s DWDM transmission system using this compensator is decreased significantly from 3.6×10-3 to 3.6×10-5. 展开更多

A general formula about the polarization jitter is concluded in polarization multiplexing (PM) system based on two orthogonal linear polarization states when the best polarization correction is used. A 100 Gb/s PM system based on NRZ code is investigated by simulation, and the Stocks parameter about polarization jitter and Poincare sphere diagrams are got for different power and phase difference of two orthogonal polarized light. The results show that the polarization jitters will be suppressed when the combined PM signal is the linear or circular polarization state. 展开更多

Contrary to the other multi-carrier modulation systems, the coherent optical orthogonal frequency division multiplexing communication system with an offset quadrature amplitude modulation (CO-OFDM-OQAM) possesses inherent imaginary interference (IMI). This has an important impact on the channel estimation process. Currently, a variety of frequency-domain channel estimation methods have been proposed. However, there are various problems that still exist. For instance, in order to reduce the influence of IMI, it is necessary to insert more guard intervals between the training sequence and the payload, leading to the occupation of excessive spectrum resources. In order to address this problem, this work designs a high spectral efficient frequency-domain channel estimation method for the polarization-division-multiplexing CO-OFDM-OQAM systems. First, the working principle of the proposed method is described in detail. Then, its spectral efficiency, power peak-to-average ratio, and channel estimation performance are studied based on simulations. The simulation results show that the proposed method improves the spectral efficiency without worsening the power peak-to-average ratio. The channel estimation capability of this method is verified in three scenarios of long-distance transmissions, including back-to-back, 100 km, and 200 km transmissions. . 展开更多

The concept previously introduced by the authors for spatially distributed three-dimensional electromagnetic polarization (as time varies) is discussed and extended also to include non-ideal antennas and the control of electromagnetic field distributions (at a given instant of time). These polarizations and fields are herein referred to as “3D”, although time is also inherent to them. We demonstrated the~2.8-μm and~3.5-μm linearly polarized continuous wave(CW)laser outputs from a polarization-maintaining(PM)Er^(3+)-doped fluoride fiber laser.By introducing a film polarizer into the cavity to select the laser polarization orientation,the~2.8-μm linearly polarized CW laser with a high polarization extinction ratio(PER)of~23 dB and maximum output power of 2.37 W was achieved under double-end pumping at 976 nm.By adding another 1981-nm pump source simultaneously,the~3.5-μm linearly polarized CW laser was also obtained,giving higher PER of~27 dB and maximum output power of 307 mW which is only limited by the available power of 1981-nm pump.To the best of our knowledge,this is the first report on a mid-infrared linearly polarized CW PM fiber laser in the>2.5-μm mid-infrared region.This work not only opens up opportunities for some new mid-infrared applications,but also provides a promising platform for developing high-stability and versatile mid-infrared laser sources. 展开更多

Active metasurfaces have recently attracted more attention since they can make the light manipulation be versatile and real-time. Metasurfaces-based holography possesses the advantages of high spatial resolution and enormous information capacity for applications in optical displays and encryption. In this work, a tunable polarization multiplexing holographic metasurface controlled by an external magnetic field is proposed. The elaborately designed nanoantennas are arranged on the magneto-optical intermediate layer, which is placed on the metallic reflecting layer. Since the non-diagonal elements of the dielectric tensor of the magneto-optical material become non-zero values once the external magnetic field is applied,the differential absorption for the left and right circularly polarized light can be generated. Meanwhile, the amplitude and phase can be flexibly modulated by changing the sizes of the nanoantennas. Based on this, the dynamic multichannel holographic display of metasurface in the linear and circular polarization channels is realized via magnetic control, and it can provide enhanced security for optical information storage. This work paves the way for the realization of magnetically controllable phase modulation, which is promising in dynamic wavefront control and optical information encryption. 展开更多

Power line communication(PLC)has the potential to become the preferred technique for providing broadband communication to homes and offices with advantage of eliminating the need for new wiring infrastructure and reducing the cost.But it suffers from the impulsive noise because it introduces significant time variance into the power line channel.In this paper,a polar codes based orthogonal frequency division multiplexing(OFDM)PLC system is proposed to deal with the impulsive noise and thereby improve the transmission performance.Firstly,the impulsive noise is modelled with a multi-damped sine function by analyzing the time behavior of impulse events.Then the polar codes are used to combat the impulsive noise of PLC channel,and a low complexity bit-flipping decoding method based on CRC-aided successive cancellation list(CA-SCL)decoding algorithm is proposed.Simulations evaluate the proposed decoding algorithm and the results validate the suggested polar codes based OFDM-PLC scheme which can improve the BER performance of PLC with impulsive interference. 展开更多

利用保偏光纤光栅(PM-FBG)设计了一种线性腔可开关双波长掺铒光纤激光器。由于与保偏光纤光栅两个反射峰对应的激射双波长的两纵模在偏振态上是正交的,在均匀展宽的掺铒光纤中增强的偏烧孔(PHB)效应减小了不同模式间的竞争,因此可在常... 利用保偏光纤光栅(PM-FBG)设计了一种线性腔可开关双波长掺铒光纤激光器。由于与保偏光纤光栅两个反射峰对应的激射双波长的两纵模在偏振态上是正交的,在均匀展宽的掺铒光纤中增强的偏烧孔(PHB)效应减小了不同模式间的竞争,因此可在常温下得到稳定的双波长。另外,通过调整偏振控制器的状态,可使激光器在稳定的双波长状态或在两波长之间转换。实验结果表明,在100 mA的泵源电流抽运下,双波长同时激射时的激光消光比大于36 dB,室温下激光工作稳定,5 h内,激射激光双波长基本无变化,峰值抖动小于0.06 dB。最后验证了泵源驱动电流与激射光谱的关系。 展开更多

Electromagnetic waves carrying orbital angular momentum(OAM),namely OAM beams,are important in various fields including optics,communications,and quantum information.However,most current schemes can only generate single or several simple OAM modes.Multi-mode OAM beams are rarely seen.This paper proposes a scheme to design metasurfaces that can generate multiple polarization-multiplexed OAM modes with equal intervals and intensities(i.e.,OAM combs)working in the terahertz(THz)range.As a proof of concept,we first design a metasurface to generate a pair of polarization-multiplexed OAM combs with arbitrary mode numbers.Furthermore,another metasurface is proposed to realize a pair of polarization-multiplexed OAM combs with arbitrary locations and intervals in the OAM spectrum.Experimental results agree well with full-wave simulations,verifying a great performance of OAM combs generation.Our method may provide a new solution to designing high-capacity THz devices used in multi-mode communication systems. 展开更多

PM2.5和PM10污染物对人类健康造成巨大威胁,但传统的商业纤维难以实现对细颗粒物(PM)的高效过滤,亟需一种新型的过滤技术。利用静电纺丝技术考察了CS/PVP纤维纺丝的工艺参数,发现当CS/PVP溶液质量比为4∶5时,纤维表面光滑,并出现类蛛网结构的粗细纤维。利用纺丝膜材料进行PM过滤测试,结果显示:所获得的纳米纤维对PM具有较强的吸附力。在以香烟烟雾作为污染源的实验中,纳米纤维对PM2.5和PM10的过滤效率达99.85%、99.98%,并保持较低的压降损失。进一步采用该膜材料在杭州进行实地PM吸附试验,结果表明空气过滤膜在雾霾环境中能够保持较好的净化效果。 展开更多
