Specifications of nanosecond laser ablation with solid targets,aluminum,silicon rubber,and polymethylmethacrylate(PMMA)

The ablation parameters such as threshold fluence, etch depth, ablation rate and the effect of material targets were investigated under the interaction of laser pulse with low intensity. The parameters of the laser system are: laser pulse energy in the range of 110–140 m J, wavelength1064 nm and pulse duration 20 ns. By macroscopic estimation of the outward images of the ablation and data obtained, we can conclude that the photothermal and photoionization processes have more influence for aluminum ablation. In contrast, for polymer samples, from the macroscopic observation of the border pattern at the irradiated spot, and also the data obtained from the experiment results, we deduce that both chemical change due to heating and photochemical dissociation were effective mechanisms of ablation. However, concerning the two polymer samples, apart from considering the same theoretical ablation model, it is conceived that the photomehanical specifications of PMMA are involved in the ablation parameters. The threshold fluence for an ablation rate of 30 laser shots were obtained as 12.4, 24.64, and 11.71 J cm^(-2), for aluminum, silicon rubber and polymethylmethacrylate(PMMA) respectively.The ablation rate is exponentially decreased by the laser-shot number, especially for aluminum.Furthermore, the etch depth after 30 laser shots was measured as 180, 630 and 870 μm, for aluminum, silicon rubber and PMMA, respectively. 展开更多

Polymethylmethacrylate(PMMA) bone cement technology has progressed from industrial Plexiglass administration in the 1950 s to the recent advent of nanoparticle additives. Additives have been trialed to address problems with modern bone cements such as the loosening of prosthesis, high post-operative infection rates, and inflammatory reduction in interface integrity. This review aims to assess current additives used in PMMA bone cements and offer an insight regarding future directions for this biomaterial. Low index(< 15%) vitamin E and low index(< 5 g) antibiotic impregnated additives significantly address infection and inflammatory problems, with only modest reductions in mechanical strength. Chitosan(15% w/w PMMA) and silver(1% w/w PMMA) nanoparticles have strong antibacterial activity with no significant reduction in mechanical strength. Future work on PMMA bone cements should focus on trialing combinations of these additives as this may enhance favourable properties. 展开更多

Polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) coated microcapsules of diclofenac sodium (DFS) were prepared by a modified wa-ter-in-oil-in-water (W1/O/W2) emulsion solvent evaporation method using sodium alginate (SAL) as a matrix material in the internal aqueous phase (W1).Their performance with respect to controlled release of the drug in simulated gastric fluid (SGF) and simulated intestinal fluid (SIF) were evaluated, and compared with non-matrix microcapsules prepared by the conventional W1/O/W2 emulsion solvent evaporation method. Scanning electron micrographs (SEM) revealed that all the microcapsules were discrete and spherical in shape;however, the surface porosity of the matrix microcap-sules appeared to be less than that of the non-matrix microcapsules. In case of non-matrix microcapsules, an increase in the volume of water in W1 phase resulted in decrease in the drug entrapment efficiency (DEE) along with increase in release of the drug in both SGF and SIF. While in case of matrix microcapsules increase in the amount of SAL in W1 phase and concentration of the coating polymer in organic phase led to increase in DEE of the matrix microcapsules and considerable decrease in the drug release in both SGF and SIF. No interaction between the drug and any of the polymers used to prepare microcapsules was evident from Fourier transform infra-red (FTIR) analysis. The matrix microcapsules prepared using higher concentration of SAL and PMMA released the drug following zero order or Case-II transport model. The matrix microcapsules appeared to be suitable for releasing lesser amounts of DFS in SGF and providing extended release in SIF. 展开更多

聚甲基丙烯酸甲酯(PMMA)骨水泥因具有良好的力学性能、适宜的凝固时间和低毒性等优点而在骨科手术中作为可注射型人工骨修复材料受到广泛的应用。然而,其生物惰性可能导致假体长期植入后产生无菌性松动。本研究采用模板法制备了介孔硼... 聚甲基丙烯酸甲酯(PMMA)骨水泥因具有良好的力学性能、适宜的凝固时间和低毒性等优点而在骨科手术中作为可注射型人工骨修复材料受到广泛的应用。然而,其生物惰性可能导致假体长期植入后产生无菌性松动。本研究采用模板法制备了介孔硼硅酸盐生物玻璃微球(MBGS),并用硅烷偶联剂γ-甲基丙烯酰氧基丙基三甲氧基硅烷(γ-MPS)对其进行改性,制备了MBGSSI。再将硅烷化介孔硼硅酸盐生物玻璃微球(MBGSSI)与聚甲基丙烯酸甲酯(PMMA)骨水泥复合,制备了一种具有良好生物活性和力学性能的复合骨水泥。实验结果表明,由于γ-MPS与MBGS的结合主要发生在介孔微球的近表面,MBGSSI比MBGS具有更大的比表面积和更小的孔容积。与MBGS/PMMA复合骨水泥相比,γ-MPS可以改善复合材料中无机相和有机相之间的结合,因此MBGSSI/PMMA复合骨水泥的力学性能得到了改善,符合ISO 5833:2002对丙烯酸类骨水泥的力学性能要求。此外,在SBF溶液中浸泡42 d后,MBGS/PMMA和MBGSSI/PMMA复合骨水泥的表面均生成了羟基磷灰石(HA),证明复合骨水泥具有良好的生物活性。因此,MBGSSI/PMMA复合骨水泥是一种潜在的骨修复材料。 展开更多

OvPOSS对HCCP_(10%)/PMMA复合体系性能的影响

以八乙烯基POSS(OvPOSS)、六氯环三磷腈(HCCP)、磷酸三乙酯(TEP)为原料,采用原位本体聚合法制备OvPOSSx/HCCP_(10%)/TEP10%/聚甲基丙烯酸甲酯(PMMA)复合材料。利用TG、DSC、TG-FTIR、LOI和垂直燃烧等分析OvPOSS对HCCP_(10%)/PMMA复合体... 以八乙烯基POSS(OvPOSS)、六氯环三磷腈(HCCP)、磷酸三乙酯(TEP)为原料,采用原位本体聚合法制备OvPOSSx/HCCP_(10%)/TEP10%/聚甲基丙烯酸甲酯(PMMA)复合材料。利用TG、DSC、TG-FTIR、LOI和垂直燃烧等分析OvPOSS对HCCP_(10%)/PMMA复合体系的热稳定性和阻燃性影响。研究发现,OvPOSS中的硅氧八面体结构和Si元素,能与HCCP中氮磷六元环结构和N、P、Cl元素共同阻碍PMMA分子链运动及其热分解。当OvPOSS含量为1.5%时,PMMA复合材料的T_(5%)=244.1℃、T_(50%)=387.6℃、T_(g)=153℃、残炭率达17.48%。HCCP_(10%)/PMMA复合体系中添加10%的TEP后,能有效地缓解其难脱模的问题。但是,其透明度下降显著,久存吸潮。结果表明,OvPOSS能抑制HCCP中强极性氯取代基的吸潮特性和取代反应活性,明显改善了HCCP_(10%)/PMMA复合体系的热稳定性和阻燃性。 展开更多

Biodegradation of Polymethylmethacrylate Bone Cement May Not Be a Serious Issue in Total Hip Arthroplasty—Retrieval Study for Knoop Hardness and Young’s Modulus

Introduction: To investigate a long-term in vivo deterioration of polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) bone cement over time, we evaluated retrieved PMMA cement in terms of chemical elements presenting in the cement using energy dispersive analysis of X-rays;Knoop hardness;and the Young’s modulus using scanning acoustic microscopy. Materials and Methods: For mechanical evaluation, we could neglect the influences of entrapped air bubbles or blood by the use of small specimens. The study was based on thirteen cement samples (six used in the acetabulum and seven in the femur) derived from eight patients (age at revision surgery: mean 72.5, range 68 to 79). All of these samples were Simplex-P?cement. They were functioning well at least ten years after the previous surgery. Duration until revision surgery was ranged 12 to 25 years (average, 17.4 years). The reason for revision was aseptic mechanical loosening. Twenty samples of Simplex-Preg;cement were served by manually mixing as a control. Results: The average of the hardness of the cement was 17.0 ± 1.2 (range, 13.4-20.6). In the control, the hardness was 17.8 ± 1.5 (range, 14.0-24.6). There was no significant difference between these values. The mean of Young’s modulus of the cement was 5.61 ± 0.19 GPa (range, 5.09-6.10). In the control, the modulus was 6.04 ± 0.13 GPa (range, 5.68-6.45). Although the modulus was significantly less than that of the control, there was only 7% decrease in average between twelve and twenty-five years in vivo. Conclusions: Our results suggest that long-term implantation and functional loading in vivo may not be the limiting factor in the mechanical integrity of the bone cement. 展开更多

Also, it is used in numerous other industrial fields like automobile lamp lenses, billboards, and lighting equipment. The phenomenon of environmental stress cracking is known to occur in PMMA due to ethanol, and there are cases when this may become a factor which causes damage of molded products. In the present paper, upon close observation by using the method of chemiluminescence in order to elucidate the mechanism by which this environmental stress cracking occurs, we report that we are able to capture the formation of a radical at the moment of cracking. 展开更多

Spectral Investigations of Kiton Red-620 Doped Polymethylmethacrylate

In the present work, Kiton red-620 laser dye is embedded in synthesized PMMA matrix by chemical doping process. The spectral investigations of Kiton red-620 doped PMMA matrix has been carried out using FTIR, UV-visible and photoluminescence spectrophotometers. FTIR study showed that the absorption band region 1800 - 1000 cm-1 becomes sharper with the concentration of dye in PMMA matrix. UV-visible and photoluminescence study showed that a slight shifting appears in the absorption spectra, emission spec- tra and intensity of emission peaks as concentration of dye increases in PMMA matrix. 展开更多

目的探讨聚甲基丙烯酸甲酯(PMMA)骨水泥强化椎弓根螺钉固定联合唑来膦酸治疗骨质疏松性腰椎滑脱的效果。方法选取2016年5月—2019年7月联勤保障部队第908医院收治的骨质疏松性腰椎滑脱患者15例,对所有患者行经椎间孔入路腰椎椎间融合术... 目的探讨聚甲基丙烯酸甲酯(PMMA)骨水泥强化椎弓根螺钉固定联合唑来膦酸治疗骨质疏松性腰椎滑脱的效果。方法选取2016年5月—2019年7月联勤保障部队第908医院收治的骨质疏松性腰椎滑脱患者15例,对所有患者行经椎间孔入路腰椎椎间融合术,采用PMMA骨水泥强化椎弓根螺钉固定联合唑来膦酸治疗骨质疏松性腰椎滑脱。记录患者术中情况,术后腰椎复位情况,术后腰椎功能[Oswestry功能障碍指数问卷表(ODI)评估]、疼痛情况[视觉模拟评分法(VAS)评估]以及骨质疏松情况。结果15例患者均顺利完成手术,术中1例患者出现硬脊膜破裂,术中给予修补,术后未出现脑脊液漏;X线及CT检查均未发现明显的椎弓根螺钉松动、切割和融合器下沉现象,椎间植骨融合良好,椎间融合率为93.2%。患者术后VAS评分、ODI评分和骨密度较术前均有明显好转(P<0.05)。结论骨水泥强化椎弓根螺钉固定联合唑来膦酸能有效提高骨质疏松性腰椎滑脱患者的螺钉固定强度,增强把持力和稳定性,提升手术疗效。 展开更多

本研究采用时域核磁共振(TD-NMR)技术探究聚甲基丙烯酸甲酯(PMMA)木塑复合材在吸湿与吸水过程中水分的状态和自旋-自旋弛豫(T_(2))特征.并比较PMMA木塑复合材的阻湿率和拒水率,分析PMMA木塑复合材的阻湿和防水性能与原理.研究对象为浸... 本研究采用时域核磁共振(TD-NMR)技术探究聚甲基丙烯酸甲酯(PMMA)木塑复合材在吸湿与吸水过程中水分的状态和自旋-自旋弛豫(T_(2))特征.并比较PMMA木塑复合材的阻湿率和拒水率,分析PMMA木塑复合材的阻湿和防水性能与原理.研究对象为浸渍甲基丙烯酸甲酯(MMA)单体聚合生成的PMMA木塑复合材.首先对绝干的PMMA木塑复合材进行核磁共振T_(2)检测,然后分别进行吸湿和吸水实验,并每隔一段时间测定试件质量及其T_(2)信号量.结果表明:PMMA木塑复合材的吸湿率和吸水率低于未处理材,具有良好的阻湿和防水性能,且MMA浸渍浓度为100%,浸渍时间为24 h时,在温度为(40±0.2)℃相对湿度为(96.4±0.4)%恒温恒湿环境下木塑复合材吸湿率低于15%,常温下吸水试件的吸水率低于30%.PMMA木塑复合材的吸湿率和吸水率明显降低,T_(2)峰面积也逐渐减小.这说明木塑复合材内部的PMMA起到了防止水分进入的作用. 展开更多
