Local field potentials (LFPs) are used with increasing frequency in recent years to link neural activity to perception and cognition. In this study, effect of propofol on LFPs in rat’s prefrontal cortex during working memory task was evaluated. Young (approximately 3 month) male Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into two group: propofol rats and control rats. Propofol rats received propofol at 0.9 mg/Kg·min intravenously for 2 h. After 12 h, LFPs of all rats were measured simultaneously from multiple electrodes placed in prefrontal cortex while rats were performing a working memory task in Y-maze. LFPs instantaneous phase were obtained by applying Hilbert transform, and cross-correlation coherence of LFPs was calculated. The results indicate that propofol decreased the correct rate and crosscorrelation coherence of LFPs on the first two days (p 0.05). Our results suggest that propofol can impair cross-correlation coherence of LFPs in the first two days, but not long time.展开更多

The regional dynamic gravity changes demonstrate the effects of the eastward flow of solid matter in the Qinghai-Tibetan plateau and the preparation of the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake (2- 10 yr). The two most meaningful gravity indicators of the Wcnchuan earthquake preparation are the positive (increasing) gravity changes occurring over many years in the southwest epicenter and the largescale gradient zone of gravity variation, with the cumulative difference between the two sides of the gradient zone of gravity exceeding 200 μGal. The positive gravity changes may facilitate a constant energy accumulation and the gradient belt may support seismic shear breakage. Overall, the gravity changes associated with the earthquake preparation indicate a pattern of accelerating increase-decelerating increase-earthquake occurrence. The Songpan-Ganzi block generally displays a negative gravity change, providing evidence for a local upwarp- ing of the deep crust-mantle and an interior expansion of the deep crust attributable to high temperatures. The viewpoint is consistent with the dilatant mechanism for earthquake preparation.展开更多

These are based on a model developed by Prof. Paul Ole Fanger of the Centre for Indoor Environment and Energy, Denmark. Today, forty-year research shows an evolution in these experiences. The work presented here is to develop a tool to evaluate the thermal comfort of working environments of office buildings. A methodology is devised on the basis of on-site measurements and questionnaire responses. For measurements, a mobile unit equipped with sensors is used, whereas the questionnaire obtains user responses on thermal quality of the work space. The thermal conditions of thirty office buildings presenting different acclimatization systems have been surveyed. The correlation between objective and subjective data allows developing a formula that shows the thermal comfort level for a given environment as a function of local aspects. For the surveyed buildings, the resulting comfortable temperature was 23.3℃, and the minimum percentage of user individuals experiencing discomfort with such temperature was 7%.展开更多

Unpredictable in their behavior, they regularly inflict injuries to farmers, some of whom are children in rural Africa. Objective: The purpose of this study was to describe the clinical, therapeutic and evolutionary aspects of abdominal trauma caused by bovidae to children on farms in Burkina Faso. Patients and Method: This is a descriptive study covering the period from January 2014 through December 2016 and was conducted in the General Surgery Unit of the Tenkodogo Regional Hospital in Burkina Faso. It included all patients under the age of 17, victims of abdominal trauma by cattle on farms. Result: A total of 68 patients were identified, which is 3% of all patients under 17 admitted to the service during the same period. The average age of patients was 10.5 years, with a standard variation of 3.6 years. The majority (73.5%) of the patients were boys. The main lesional mechanisms found were horn strokes (88.2%). We noted 35 eviscerations without visceral perforation, 15 intestinal perforations, 6 hepatic wounds and 5 splenic wounds. In 7 cases, there were non-penetrating wounds. All patients underwent surgical intervention under anesthesia. The average length of hospital was 6 days. Two deaths were recorded, making a mortality rate of 3%. Conclusion: Abdominal traumas of the child by attack of cattle are frequent during farm works in rural Burkina Faso. The injuries are sometimes serious. Wearing protective equipment for children should be considered during farm work.展开更多

Modelling occupational outbreaks will be useful to guide the field investigation. Objective: To identify standard pathways for occupational epidemic outbreaks. Methods: In-depth critical appraisal of 57 occupational outbreaks. Standard pathways of occupational outbreaks were identified by analysing the similarity between out-breaks. The model’s accuracy and homogeneity were established through Fisher’s exact test and the Kappa Index. Results: The analysis allowed synthesizing the occupational outbreaks variability in 4 pathways. 92.98% of the analysed outbreaks could be allocated to one of those 4 types. The theoretical patterns showed a good adjustment with the analysed out-breaks: Type I (Kappa = 0.94 - 0.60), Type II (Kappa = 1.00), Type III (Kappa = 1.00 - 0.68) and Type IV (Kappa = 0.94 - 0.87). The probability of a given outbreak fitting with its three components in any of the theoretical pathways was 0.83. Conclusions: The incorporation of those pathways to the field occupational epidemiology will allow: 1) to provide early guidance to epidemiological, clinical and environmental studies focused on specific hypothesis of causality;2) to anticipate preventive measures;3) to contribute to an earlier and more efficient outbreak resolution.展开更多
