The primary cracks in the rock block undergo series of steps and finally disintegrate,during this procession,the radius affects the impact force of rock block in clastic flow.Therefore,it is essential to figure out th...The primary cracks in the rock block undergo series of steps and finally disintegrate,during this procession,the radius affects the impact force of rock block in clastic flow.Therefore,it is essential to figure out the evolution mechanism of crack propagation for the design of engineering protection.In this study,based on fracture mechanics and Hertz contact theory,collision happened between rock block and slope surface is assumed to be elastic contact.Based on the above assumption,the critical impact force of crack propagation is obtained,and a model used to calculate the crack propagation length in a single collision is established.Besides,a rock fall site in Jiuzhai Valley was used to verify the calculation model.According to the model,several key factors were identified to influence crack propagation length including falling height,initial equivalent radius,and recovery coefficient of slope surface.Moreover,as a result of the orthogonal experiment,the influence of those factors on the crack propagation length was ranked,normal recovery coefficient>initial radius>initial falling height.In addition,the kinetic energy of the rock block in the compression stage is transformed into elastic deformation energy,angular kinetic energy,and dissipated energy of crack propagation.Due to the increase of collisions,the kinetic energy is gradually transformed into angular kinetic energy,and the dissipated energy of crack propagation weights is reduced.In conclusion,the crack propagation in rock block is a complicated progress,which is affected by multiple factors,especially falling height,initial equivalent radius,and recovery coefficient of slope surface.Our study may provide guidance for the design of protective structure of clastic flows.展开更多

Rooting and sprouting percentages were higher in some treatments while other parame...The effect of auxins (IAA or IBA at 100, 200, 500 mg.L J) on rooting and sprouting parameters differed significantly (p 〈 0.05). Rooting and sprouting percentages were higher in some treatments while other parameters were significantly higher in other treatments. The results of the present study revealed that rooting was significantly (p 〈 0.05) affected by the length of cuttings, as well as the position of shoots and type of cuttings. On average, 86.0 per cent rooting was observed in the 30-cm long cuttings com- pared to the other two lengths of cuttings, i.e., 20 and 25 cm, irrespective of any auxin treatment. In a control set, without any auxin treatment, a maximum of 60.0% rooting was recorded in the 30-cm long cuttings and a minimum of 40.0% of the cuttings rooted in the 20-cm long cuttings. Similarly, cuttings collected from the lower and upper portions of shoots resulted in 72.5 and 52.5 per cent rooting respectively, irrespective of auxin treatments. Maximum rooting was observed in the lower portion (40.0%) of cutting com- pared to the upper portion (30.0%) in the control set without auxin treatment. Leafless branches produced maximum (72.0%) rooting compared to the leafy cuttings (35.0%), irrespective of the auxin treatment. The leafy cuttings produces a minimum of 15.0% sprout- ing and rooting in the control set.展开更多

A pair of wedge transducers is used to generate the primary circumferential gui...The experimental observation of cumulative second-harmonic generation of the primary circumferential guided wave propagation is reported. A pair of wedge transducers is used to generate the primary circumferential guided wave desired and to detect its fundamental-frequency and second-harmonic amplitudes on the outside surface of the circular tube. The amplitudes of the fundamental waves and the second harmonics of the circumferential guided wave propagation are measured for different separations between the two wedge transducers. At the driving frequency where the primary and the double-frequency circumferential guided waves have the same linear phase velocities, the clear second-harmonic signals can be observed. The quantitative relationships between the second-harmonic amplitudes and circumferential angle are analyzed. It is experimentally verified that the second harmonics of primary circumferential guided waves do have a cumulative growth effect with the circumferential angle.展开更多

The properties of surface magnetoplasmon polaritons(SMPPs)in a symmetric structure,composed of two semi-infinite regions of high-density two-dimensional electron gas(2DEG)separated by a thin film in Voigt configuratio...The properties of surface magnetoplasmon polaritons(SMPPs)in a symmetric structure,composed of two semi-infinite regions of high-density two-dimensional electron gas(2DEG)separated by a thin film in Voigt configuration,are investigated.The normal and absorption dispersion relations for the transverse magnetic polarization are derived by correlating Maxwell’s equation and the boundary conditions.It is demonstrated that the features of SMPPs are greatly influenced by the external magnetic field,collision frequency of 2DEG,the dielectric constant,and the thickness of the thin film,suggesting that the locations and propagation lengths of SMPPs can be governed accordingly.It is shown that the symmetry of the physical geometry preserves the symmetry of the dispersion relations of SMPPs.Furthermore,it is discovered that as the external magnetic field increases,the penetration depth of SMPPs decreases,while their energy loss reduces,implying that plasmons can propagate for longer distances.Additionally,it is observed that SMPPs in the symmetric configuration have a longer lifetime than those in the asymmetric configuration.展开更多

Calculations are performed assuming that the dominant effect on the plastic energy dissipation has the circumferential bending mode. This paper presents an experimental study on the creeping discharge propagating over the pressboard surface in two vegetable oils(PFAE(palm fatty acid ester)oil and CRS(crude rapeseed)oil)and commercial mineral oil un...This paper presents an experimental study on the creeping discharge propagating over the pressboard surface in two vegetable oils(PFAE(palm fatty acid ester)oil and CRS(crude rapeseed)oil)and commercial mineral oil under the quasi-square impulse voltage with any pulse width.The pressboard impregnated with the sample oil is immersed completely into the same oil.The tungsten needle electrode is installed in the pressboard surface with and without the counter electrode to generate a creeping discharge.The other side of pressboard has the thin copper rod as a back side electrode.A comparison of the shape and stopping length of positive and negative streamers,discharge current,emitted light signal,and temporal variation and velocity of streamer propagation is reported for all different oil-pressboard interfaces.It has been shown that the behavior of creeping streamers has unique characteristics and polarity effects,and the traveling mode and propagation velocity of streamers are greatly different depending on the type of oil.展开更多

Due to the high permittivity of the polymer film, at proper polymer film thicknesses, the index-matching condition of the dielectrics at both sides of the metal can be satisfied for supporting LRSPP modes, and the electromagnetic field above the metal can be localized well. It is found that these LRSPP modes have both long propagation lengths and subwavelength mode expansion above the metal at the optimal polymer film thickncsses. Furthermore, the requirements on the refractive index and the thickness of the polymer film to support LRSPP modes at the optimal thicknesses are found to be not critical.展开更多

Based on Ohm's law, a quantitative equation has been derived for the dependence of the maximum streamer length on the discharge voltage of a pulsed positive streamer discharge in water.
