To ensure a safe and stable CO_(2)storage,pressure responses at an observation well are expected to be an important and useful field monitoring item to estimate the CO_(2)storage behaviors and the aquifer parameters during and after injecting CO_(2),because it can detect whether the injected CO_(2)leaks to the ground surface or the bottom of the sea.In this study, pressure responses were simulated to present design factors such as well location and pressure transmitter of the observation well.Numerical simulations on the pressure response and the time-delay from pressure build-up after CO_(2)injection were conducted by considering aquifer parameters and distance from the CO_(2)injection well to an observation well. The measurement resolution of a pressure transmitter installed in the observation well was presented based on numerical simulation results of the pressure response against pressure build-up at the injection well and CO_(2)plume front propagations.Furthermore, the pressure response at an observation well was estimated by comparing the numerical simulation results with the curve of CO_(2)saturation and relative permeability. It was also suggested that the analytical solution can be used for the analysis of the pressure response tendency using pressure build-up and dimensionless parameters of hydraulic diffusivity. Thus,a criterion was established for selecting a pressure transducer installed at an observation well to monitor the pressure responses with sufficient accuracy and resolution, considering the distance from the injection well and the pressure build-up at the injection well, for future carbon capture and storage(CCS)projects. 展开更多

Regulators are important components in pneumatic system, and their flow-rate characteristics are the key parameters for designers. According to the correlatively international standard and national standard of China, which describe the flow-rate characteristics measurement method of pneumatic regulators, the pressure and the flow are measured point by point, and then the flow-rate characteristics curve is plotted point to point. This method has some disadvantages, such as equipment complexity, much air consumption, and low efficiency. To settle the problems presented above, this paper puts forward a new high efficient and energy saving flow-rate characteristics measurement method of regulators, which is based on the pressure response when charging and discharging to an isothermal tank without any flow meters. The measurement principle, the system and the steps are introduced. And the tracking differentiator is used for the data processing of the pressure difference. Two typical kinds of regulators were experimentally investigated, and their flow-rate characteristics curves were obtained with the new and the conventional method, respectively. Comparatively, it's proved that this new method is feasible because it is not only able to meet the demand of the measurement precision, but also to save energy and improve efficiency. Compared to the conventional method, the new method takes only about 1/10 amount of time and consumes about only 1/30 amount of air. Hopefully it will be able to serve as an international standard of flow-rate characteristics measurement method of regulators. 展开更多

The seismic design of gravity retaining walls is based mostly on the pseudo static method. The seismic earth pressure is assumed to be a constant without considering the wave traveling effect when the seismic wave propagates through the slope. However, under continuous ground motion, the actual earth pressure on the retaining wall varies with time. The present seismic earth pressure calculation method yields results that differ significantly from the actual scenario.Considering this,a slip surface curve was assumed in this study. It is more suitable for engineering practice. In addition,a theoretical calculation model based on energy dissipation was established. The time history of seismic earth pressure response under continuous ground motion was calculated using the equilibrium equation between the external power and the internal energy dissipation power of the sliding soil wedge. It can more effectively reflect the stress scenario of a retaining wall under seismic conditions. To verify the applicability of the proposed approach,a large-scale shaking table test was conducted, and the time history of the seismic earth pressure response obtained from the experiment was compared with the calculation results. The results show that the proposed approach is applicable to the calculation of the time history of seismic earth pressure response of gravity retaining walls. This lays the foundation for the seismic design of retaining structures by using dynamic time history. 展开更多

The in situ pore pressure response of silt under wave action is a complex process. However, this process has not been well studied because of limited field observation techniques. The dynamic response process is closely related to engineering geological hazards;thus, this process must be urgently explored.A long-term in situ observational study of the silt sediment pore water pressure response process under wave action was conducted in the subaqueous Yellow River Delta. The response characteristics of pore water pressure are affected by tidal level and wave height.Tidal level affects the overall trend of the pore water pressure response, while wave height influences the amplitude of the pore water pressure response. This study revealed a significant lag effect in the pore pressure response. The transient pore pressure in the seabed did not respond immediately to the wave-induced pressure stress on the seabed surface. This phenomenon may be attributed to the change in soil permeability. The maximum response depth was approximately 0.5 m with a 2 m wave height.A concept model of silt soil pore pressure response under different types of wave action was developed. The accumulation rate of the pore pressure is less than the dissipation rate;thus, the developed model highlights the oscillation pore pres-sure response mechanism. The highlighted response process is of considerable importance to transient liquefaction and the startup process of pore pressure response. 展开更多

Response surface methodology (RSM) was employed in the present work and a second orderquadratic equation for high hydrostatic pressure (HHP) inactivation was built. Theadequacy of the model equation for predicting the optimum response values was verifiedeffectively by the validation data. Effects of temperature, pressure, and pressureholding time on HHP inactivation of Escherichia coli ATCC 8739 were explored. Byanalyzing the response surface plots and their corresponding contour plots as well assolving the quadratic equation, the optimum process parameters for inactivation E. coliof six log cycles were obtained as: temperature 32.2℃, pressure 346.4 MPa, and pressureholding time 12.6min. 展开更多

Background: Hemodynamics is a practical and complicated theoretical problem. The aim of this paper is to analyze the characteristics of blood pressure in the cardiovascular system changing with the mechanical parameters of blood vessels and the storage of some visceral organs. Method: The fluid network model was used for the study. The cardiovascular system was modeled as a system consisting of 20 segments of vessels. The main controlling parameters were determined first by using dimensional analysis. Then the responses of blood pressure of each segment of vessels were analyzed by changing the controlling parameters. Results: The parameters of the blood vessel of brain have the least influence on the pressures of other parts. The pressures of the system of blood vessels will decrease if some blood is stored in the liver or the abdominal vein system. Vice versa. The effects of regulation of blood on the variation of blood pressure are larger than the other controlling parameters. Conclusions: The controlling parameters of the abdominal aorta and ascending aorta affect greatly the blood pressure of each vessel. 展开更多

The Three Gorges Reservoir is a good site for the further researches on reservoir induced seismicity due to decades' seismic monitoring. After the first water impounding in 2003, seismic activity becomes more frequent than that before water impoundment. In order to quantitatively study, the relationship between the water level fluctuation and earthquakes in TGR, we introduced statistical methods to attain the goal. First of all, we relocated the earthquakes in TGR region with double difference method and divided the earthquakes into 5 clusters with clustering analysis method. Secondly, to examine the impacts of water level fluctuation in different water filling stages on the seismic activity in the 5 clusters, a series of statistical analyses are applied. Pearson correlation results show that only the 175 m water level fluc- tuation has significantly positive impacts on the seismic activity in clusters I, II, III and V with correlation coefficients of 0.44, 0.38, 0.66 and 0.63. Cross-correlation analysis demonstrates that 0, ], 0 and 0 month time delay separately for the clusters I, II, III and V exists. It illustrated the influences of the water loading and pore pressure diffusion on induced earthquakes. Cointegration tests and impulse response analysis denoted that the 175 m water level only had long term and significant effects just on the seismic events in the intersection region of the Fairy Mount Fault and Nine-brook Fault. One standard deviation shock to 175 m water level increased the seismic activity in cluster V for the first 3 months, and then the negative influence was shown. After 7 months, the negative impulse response becomes stable. The long-term effect of the 175 m water impoundment also proved the important role of pore pressure diffusion in RIS with time. 展开更多

AIM:To compare the corneal biomechanical properties difference by ocular response analyzer(ORA) in normal tension glaucoma(NTG) patients with different visual field(VF) progression speed. METHODS:NTG patients with well-controlled Goldmann applanation tonometer(GAT) who routinely consulted Kitasato University Hospital Glaucoma Department between January 2010 and February 2014 were enrolled.GAT and ORA parameters including corneal compensated intraocular pressure(lOPcc),Goldmann estimated intraocular pressure(lOPg),corneal hysteresis(CH),corneal resistance factor(CRF) were recorded.VF was tested by Swedish interactive threshold algorithm(SITA)-standard 30-2 fields. All patients underwent VF measurement regularly and GAT did not exceed 15 mm Hg at any time during the 3y follow up.Patients were divided into four groups according to VF change over 3y,and ORA findings were compared between the upper 25th percentile group(slow progression group) and the lower 25th percentile group(rapid progression group).RESULTS:Eighty-two eyes of 56 patients were studied. There were 21 eyes(21 patients) each in rapid and slow progression groups respectively.GAT,lOPcc,lOPg,CH,CRF were 12.1+1.4 mm Hg,15.8±1.8 mm Hg,12.8±2.0 mm Hg,8.4±1.1 mm Hg,7.9±1.3 mm Hg respectively in rapid progression group and 11.5±1.3 mm Hg,13.5±2.1 mm Hg,11.2±1.6 mm Hg,9.3±1.1 mm Hg,8.2±0.9 mm Hg respectively in slow progression group(P=0.214,〈0.001,0.007,0.017,0.413,respectively).In bivariate correlation analysis,lOPcc,lOPcc-GAT and CH were significant correlated with m△MD(r =-0.292,-0.312,0.228 respectively,P =0.008,0.004,0.039 respectively).CONCLUSION:Relatively rapid VF progression occurred in NTG patients whose lOPcc are rather high,CH are rather low and the difference between lOPcc and GAT are relatively large.Higher lOPcc and lower CH are associated with VF progression in NTG patients. This study suggests that GAT measures might underestimate the IOP in such patients. 展开更多

The point power spectrum density and the wavenumber frequency spectrum density of turbulent - boundary- layer fluctuation pressure were measured in water-tunnel by use of a 8 mm hydrophone and a 20-element array, respectively. The non-dimensional representation of measured point power spectrum coincides with the measured results by Bull M. K. et. al. in wind tunnel. The convection peak can be seen clearly in the measured wavenumber frequency spectrum and the convection velocity can be calculated from the location of the convection peak. The response spectrum of a polyvinylidence fluoride (PVDF) hydrophone, which receiving area is 100 mm× 60 nun, was also measured. By comparing it with the response spectrtum of the 8 mm hydrophone, it is shown that the PVDF hyrdophone has a strong wavenumber filtering effect on turbulent - boundary-layer pressure fluctuation. 展开更多

The wave-seabed interaction issue is of great importance for the design of foundation around marine infrastructures. Most previous investigations for such a problem have been limited to uncoupled or one- way coupled methods connecting two separated wave and seabed sub models with the continuity of pressures at the seabed surface. In this study, a strongly coupled model was proposed to realize both wave and seabed processes in a same program and to calculate the wave fields and seabed response simultaneously. The information between wave fields and seabed fields were strongly shared and thus results in a more profound investigation of the mechanism of the wave-seabed interaction. In this letter, the wave and seabed models were validated with previous experimental tests. Then, a set of application of present model were discussed in prediction of the wave-induced seabed response. Numerical results show the wave-induced liquefaction area of coupled model is smaller than that of uncoupled model. 展开更多

Stimulation of the trigeminal nerve can elicit various cardiovascular and autonomic responses;however, the effects of anesthesia with pentobarbital sodium on these responses are unclear.Pentobarbital sodium was infused intravenously at a nominal rate and the lingual nerve was electrically stimulated at each infusion rate.Increases in systolic blood pressure(SBP) and heart rate(HR) were evoked by lingual nerve stimulation at an infusion rate between 5 and 7 mg?kg 21 ?h 21.This response was associated with an increase in the low-frequency band of SBP variability(SBP-LF).As the infusion rate increased to 10 mg?kg 21 ?h 21 or more, decreases in SBP and HR were observed. This response was associated with the reduction of SBP-LF.In conclusion, lingual nerve stimulation has both sympathomimetic and sympathoinhibitory effects, depending on the depth of pentobarbital anesthesia. The reaction pattern seems to be closely related to the autonomic balance produced by pentobarbital anesthesia. 展开更多

Currently, most models for multiple fractured horizontal wells(MFHWs)in naturally fractured unconventional reservoirs(NFURs)are based on classical Euclidean models which implicitly assume a uniform distribution of natural fractures and that all fractures are homogeneous. While fractal theory provides a powerful method to describe the disorder, heterogeneity, uncertainty and complexity of the NFURs.In this paper,a fractally fractional diffusion model(FFDM)for MFHWs in NFURs is established based on fractal theory and fractional calculus.Particularly, fractal theory is used to describe the heterogeneous, complex fracture network, with consideration of anomalous behavior of diffusion process in NFURs by employing fractional calculus. The Laplace transformation, line source function, dispersion method, and superposition principle are used to solve this new model. The pressure responses in the real time domain are obtained with Stehfest numerical inversion algorithms. The type curves of MFHW with three different outer boundaries are plotted.Sensitivity analysis of some related parameters are discussed as well. This new model provides the relatively more accurate and appropriate evaluation results for pressure transient analysis for MFHWs in NFURs,which could be applied to accurately interpret the real pressure data of an MFHW in field. 展开更多

The accuracy of fluctuating pressure test in wind tunnel is affected by the tube system. By employing contradistinctive experimental method, systematic study was conducted to investigate the effects of the tube system on fluctuating pressure. The analyzed tube system parameters include tube length, inside diameter, curvature, deflection angle, thickness, material, restrictor length, restrictor inside diameter, and restrictor place. It is found that all the tube system parameters mentioned above except tube curvature have non-negligible effects on fluctuating pressure. Based on the research results, test methods were presented for the fluctuating pressure measurement in low-speed wind tunnel, which can obviously improve the data accuracy but not lose test efficiency. The effectiveness of the method is verified by the wind tunnel test. 展开更多

The pressure response for the composite reservoirs with a sealing fault locating in inner and outer region is different, which neglected by previous researchers, would cause significant errors during well-test interpretations.Based on seepage theory,a well-test model of two-region radial composite reservoir with infinite outer boundary has been built in this study considering wellbore storage and skin effects. The solutions for this model and characteristics of the type curves have been analyzed by applying the method of mirror image,Laplace transformation and superposition principle, including a straight fault,a perpendicular fault and parallel faults cases. The study shows that the dimensionless pressure derivative curves would be obviously different in two cases:the well to fault distance is larger, and smaller than the half length of the inner-region radius. Therefore, type curves are presented with reasonable parameters to analyze the distance effect on the dynamic pressure response. The results in this study are of great significance。 展开更多
