It is important to look forinfluences behind academic procrastination in the adolescent population. The present study aimed to revealthe explanatory mechanisms underlying the association between hope and academic procrastination behaviorsamong Chinese adolescents by testing the mediating role of attentional control and the moderating role of traitmindfulness. Participants in the current study were 1156 Chinese adolescents who completed self-report questionnaireson hope, attentional control, academic procrastination, and trait mindfulness. The results indicatedthat adolescent hope was negatively related to academic procrastination and that attentional control partiallymediated this association. In addition, trait mindfulness moderated the direct association between hope and academicprocrastination in the mediated model. In conclusion, identifying the mechanisms by which hope is associatedwith academic procrastination in adolescent populations is of potential value for the prevention of andintervention in this undesirable study habit. 展开更多

Locus of control theory, which was developed by Rotter, suggests that there are two main types of peoples’behaviors when attributing their failure or success of their life events:external locus of control and internal. The way that individuals act is determined by their expectations of their specific behaviors and the value that they add to these expectations. For instance, people who fit in the internal category are more likely to attribute their life events to their own behaviors, skills, and attitudes, while people who fit in the external category, tend to attribute their acts to fate, chance, and other exterior factors that are out of their control. The aim of this systematic literature review was to define the fundamental concept of LOC theory,to investigate major findings of the theory in accordance with LOC and procrastination, job satisfaction, and performance and lastly,to discuss the practical use of the theory in the organizational context. 展开更多

Objective:The importance of good sleep for energy recovery and overall physical and mental health cannot be overstated. However, the increasing competitiveness of society, diversifying lifestyles, and the rapid spread of the internet and electronic devices have significantly impacted people’s sleep patterns, particularly through bedtime procrastination. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the relationship and underlying mechanisms between sleep determination, anxiety, and bedtime procrastination among the Chinese population.Method:The study utilized data from a national survey—the China Residents’Sleep Condition Survey(November 2021,with 6,037 participants).By constructing mediation and moderation models,it analyzed the relationship and mechanisms between sleep determination and bedtime procrastination, highlighting the dual role of anxiety:as a mediator between sleep determination and bedtime procrastination, and as a moderator of their relationship. Results:There was a negative correlation between sleep determination and bedtime procrastination;anxiety was related to an increase in bedtime procrastination behaviors; In the interplay between sleep determination and pre-bedtime procrastination, the regulatory effect of anxiety is found to be more pronounced than its intermediary role, with anxiety significantly diminishing the inverse relationship between sleep determination and procrastination before bedtime. Conclusion:Bedtime procrastination can lead to sleep issues, thus reducing sleep quality.Enhancing sleep determination or alleviating pre-sleep anxiety can help inhibit bedtime procrastination behaviors.Intervening and reducing bedtime procrastination is one of the effective measures to improve sleep quality. 展开更多

Emerging adulthood(EA)is a critical stage of life to develop and sustain a healthy lifestyle, which is also a time of vulnerability to poor physical and mental health outcomes. In this study,we conducted a path analysis(N=1326)to examine associations among four dimensions of EA,levels of regular physical activity(PA),self-control,MPA tendency and irrational procrastination. Results found:1)higher levels of PA predicted both MPA tendency(β=−0.08,95%CI:−0.11 to−0.06,p<0.001)and irrational procrastination(β=−0.01,95%CI:−0.17 to−0.008,p<0.01)indirectly via self-control;2)Instability(β=0.13,95%CI:0.08 to 0.18,p<0.01)and Responsibility(β=−0.06,95%CI:−0.10 to−0.08,p=0.03)exerted direct effects on irrational procrastination and Instability also indirectly predicted irrational procrastination via MPA tendency(β=0.03,95%CI:0.02 to 0.05,p<0.01).These findings proved that perceived features of EA are linked to behavioral problems and supported that regular PA plays a crucial role to protect mental health. 展开更多
