BACKGROUND Fatigue is a very common but relatively neglected problem in patients with inflammatory bowel disease(IBD).The prevalence rate of IBD in China is the highest in Asia,but there is little research on fatigue ...BACKGROUND Fatigue is a very common but relatively neglected problem in patients with inflammatory bowel disease(IBD).The prevalence rate of IBD in China is the highest in Asia,but there is little research on fatigue in patients with IBD.Neither the relationship between fatigue and quality of life(QoL)nor the relationship between fatigue and work productivity(WP)in Chinese IBD patients has been reported.AIM To investigate the prevalence of fatigue related to IBD in Eastern China,to identify the risk factors associated with fatigue,to assess the impact of fatigue on QoL,and to evaluate the relationship between fatigue and WP.METHODS A cross-sectional study was conducted in a Regional Tertiary IBD Diagnostic and Treatment Center in Eastern China.Clinical data of patients were collected,and disease activity was evaluated.Blood samples were analyzed to assess anemia,albumin,and inflammation.Fatigue was assessed using the multidimensional fatigue inventory.QoL and WP were measured using the short inflammatory bowel disease questionnaire and the work productivity and activity impairment general health questionnaire,respectively.The patients also completed assessments of depression(Patient Health Questionnaire-9)and anxiety(Generalized Anxiety Disorder 7-item Scale).RESULTS A total of 311 IBD patients,comprising 168 Crohn's disease patients and 143 ulcerative colitis patients,were enrolled.The prevalence of fatigue in patients with IBD was 60.77%.In a univariate logistic regression analysis,factors such as disease activity,depression,anxiety,anemia,and IBD-related surgery were individually related to a significantly increased risk of fatigue in IBD patients.Multivariate logistic regression analysis indicated that depression[odds ratio(OR)=8.078,95%confidence interval(CI):4.113-15.865],anxiety(OR=2.373,95%CI:1.100-5.119),anemia(OR=2.498,95%CI:1.290-4.834),and IBD-related surgery(OR=2.035,95%CI:1.084-3.819)were related to fatigue in IBD patients.There was a negative correlation between fatigue and QoL(r=-0.831;P<0.0001)but a positive correlation between fatigue and WP loss.CONCLUSION The prevalence of fatigue in IBD patients in Eastern China is remarkably high even in clinical remission.Factors such as depression,anxiety,anemia,and IBDrelated surgery are major risk factors for fatigue in IBD patients.In addition,fatigue has a negative impact on QoL and is positively correlated with WP loss.展开更多
BACKGROUND The introduction of biologics has revolutionized the management of the chronic inflammatory bowel disease,ulcerative colitis(UC),with many patients experiencing significant improvements not only in their sy...BACKGROUND The introduction of biologics has revolutionized the management of the chronic inflammatory bowel disease,ulcerative colitis(UC),with many patients experiencing significant improvements not only in their symptoms but in other outcomes relevant to individuals and society as a whole.In Germany,there are no prospective data>3 mo that assess the work productivity,daily activities and quality of life(QoL)of patients with moderate-to-severe UC treated with golimumab.AIM To assess change in work productivity,capacity for daily activities and QoL in UC patients treated with golimumab in Germany.METHODS The validated Work Productivity Activity Impairment(WPAI)Questionnaire was used to analyze the change in work productivity,the capacity for daily activities after three months(primary endpoint)and disease specific and health related QoL(HRQoL)up to 1 year(secondary endpoints).The changes in work productivity and activity impairment were evaluated every three months until month twelve compared to baseline.Disease-specific and health-related QoL were assessed with the inflammatory bowel disease questionnaire and with the short-form 12 health survey questionnaire(SF-12).RESULTS This prospective non-interventional study included 287 patients.The analysis population was comprised of 282 patients who had completed at least two visits.At baseline,61%of patients had moderate UC and 18%had severe UC.Furthermore,75%of patients worked full-time or part-time at baseline.A total of 212 patients who were employed at the start of the study(employed population)were evaluated for the primary endpoint.Golimumab significantly reduced all WPAI sub-scores compared to baseline after three,six,nine and twelve months after the start of treatment(P<0.0001).In addition,disease-specific QoL and HRQoL,as measured by the SF-12 questionnaire,improved significantly with golimumab at all evaluation times(P<0.0001 in each case vs baseline).CONCLUSION Treatment of moderate-to-severe UC with golimumab leads to significant improvements in patient´s work productivity,daily activity and QoL over twelve months.展开更多

As a fundamental logistics service,the express delivery(ED)industry provides production and consumption activities to maintain efficient supply chain operations.It plays an important role in promoting industrial devel...As a fundamental logistics service,the express delivery(ED)industry provides production and consumption activities to maintain efficient supply chain operations.It plays an important role in promoting industrial development and maintaining daily life and consumption.This study examined the effects of COVID-19 on the ED industry using ED package delivery data from 31 provinces(autonomous regions and municipalities)in China.Using a difference-in-differences method,the COVID-19 outbreak was found to have a positive effect and epidemic prevention and control(EPC)policies were found to have negative effects on the development of the ED industry.In addition to EPC policies,the Chinese government has implemented other short-term economic interventions(SEI),such as the resumption of work and production(RWP),policies to balance economic growth,and epidemic prevention.This study divided the pandemic period into three stages to analyze the different impacts of EPC and SEI policy changes on the ED industry.The RWP policies adopted during the pandemic positively impacted the volume and income of packages delivered to the ED industry.The conclusions of this study are significant for the ED industry in addressing public health emergencies and for the Chinese government to formulate EPC and SEI policies during epidemic periods.展开更多
Ventilation is an important engineering measure to control the airborne infection risk of acute respiratory diseases,e.g.,Corona Virus Disease 2019(COVID-19).Occupancy-aided ventilation methods can effectively improve...Ventilation is an important engineering measure to control the airborne infection risk of acute respiratory diseases,e.g.,Corona Virus Disease 2019(COVID-19).Occupancy-aided ventilation methods can effectively improve the airborne infection risk control performance with a sacrifice of decreasing working productivity because of the reduced occupancy.This study evaluates the effectiveness of two occupancy-aided ventilation methods,i.e.,the continuously reduced occupancy method and the intermittently reduced occupancy method.The continuously reduced occupancy method is determined by the steady equation of the mass conservation law of the indoor contaminant,and the intermittently reduced occupancy method is determined by a genetic algorithm-based optimization.A two-scenarios-based evaluation framework is developed,i.e.,one with targeted airborne infection risk control performance(indicated by the mean rebreathed fraction)and the other with targeted working productivity(indicated by the accumulated occupancy).The results show that the improvement in the airborne infection risk control performance linearly and quadratically increases with the reduction in the working productivity for the continuously reduced occupancy method and the intermittently reduced occupancy method respectively.At a given targeted airborne infection risk control performance,the intermittently reduced occupancy method outperforms the continuously reduced occupancy method by improving the working productivity by up to 92%.At a given targeted working productivity,the intermittently reduced occupancy method outperforms the continuously reduced occupancy method by improving the airborne infection risk control performance by up to 38%.展开更多
