Due to the conflict between huge amount of map data and limited network bandwidth, rapid trans- mission of vector map data over the Internet has become a bottleneck of spatial data delivery in web-based environment. This paper proposed an approach to organizing and transmitting multi-scale vector river network data via the Internet progressively. This approach takes account of two levels of importance, i.e. the importance of river branches and the importance of the points belonging to each river branch, and forms data packages ac- cording to these. Our experiments have shown that the proposed approach can reduce 90% of original data while preserving the river structure well. 展开更多

When a 3D model is transmitted over a lossy network, some model information may inevitably be missing. Under such situation, one may not be able to visualize the receiving model unless the lost model information has been retransmitted. Progressive model transmission offers an alternative to avoid the "all or nothing situation" by allowing a model to be visualized with a degraded quality when only part of the model data has been received. Unfortunately, in case some model refinement information is missing, one may still need to wait for such information to be retransmitted before the model can be rendered with a desired visual quality. To address this problem, we have developed a novel error resilient packetization scheme. We first construct a Non-Redundant Directed Acyclic Graph to encode the dependencies among the vertex splits of a progressive mesh. A special Global Graph Equipartition Packing Algorithm is then applied to partitioning this graph into several equal size sub-graphs, which is packed as packets. The packing algorithm comprises two main phases: initial partition phase and global refinement phase. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed scheme can minimize the dependencies between packets. Hence, it reduces the delay in rendering 3D models with proper quality at the clients. 展开更多

We consider this transmission as a </span><span style="font-family:Verdana;">dynamical</span><span style="font-family:Verdana;"> process, where the sender </span><span style="font-family:Verdana;">push</span></span></span></span><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><span style="font-family:Verdana;">es</span></span></span><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><span style="font-family:Verdana;"> the data in decreasing significance order. In order to adapt to network conditions and performances, instead of truncating the pixels, we suggest a new method called Fast Reconstruction Method by Kalman Filtering (FRM-KF) consisting </span></span></span><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><span style="font-family:Verdana;">of</span></span></span><span><span><span style="font-family:;" "=""><span style="font-family:Verdana;"> recursive inference of the not yet received layers belonging to a sequence of bitplanes. Adaptive rendering large and complex spatial data has become an important research issue in a 3DGIS application. In order to transmit the data to the client efficiently, this paper proposes a node-layer data model to manage the 3D scene. Because the large spatial data and limited network bandwidth are the main bottlenecks of web-based 3DGIS, a client/server architecture including progressive transmission methods and multiresolution representations, together with the spatial index, are developed to improve the performance. All this makes the application quite scalable. Experimental results reveal that the application works appropriately. 展开更多

One of the problems in virtual globes technologies is the real-time representation of vegetal species. In forest or garden representations, the low detailed plants produce a lack of realism.Efficient techniques are required to achieve accurate interactive visualisation due to the great number of polygons the vegetal species have. This article presents a multi-resolution model based on a geometric representation of vegetal species that allows the application to perform the progressive transmission of the model, that is,the transmission of a simple representation followed by successive refinements of it.It has a hardware-oriented design in order to obtain interactive frame rates. The geometric data of the objects are stored in the graphics processing unit and, moreover, the change from one approximation to another is obtained by performing mathematical calcula-tions in this graphics hardware. The multi-resolution model presented here enables instancing:as many vegetal species as desired can be rendered with different levels of detail, while all of them are accessing the same geometric data. This model has been used to build a real-time representation of a not imaginary scenario. 展开更多

Due to advantages in solid modeling with complex geometry and its ideal suitability for 3D printing, the implicit representation has been widely used in recent years. The demand for free-form shapes makes the implicit tensor-product B-spline representation attract more and more attention. However,it is an important challenge to deal with the storage and transmission requirements of enormous coefficient ten-sor.In this paper,we propose a new compression framework for coefficient tensors of implicit 3D tensor-product B-spline solids. The proposed compression algorithm consists of four steps,i.e.,preprocessing,block splitting, using a lifting-based 3D discrete wavelet transform, and coding with 3D set partitioning in hierarchical trees algorithm. Finally,we manage to lessen the criticism of the implicit tensor-product B-spline representation of surface for its redundancy store of 3D coefficient tensor.Experimental results show that the proposed compression framework not only achieves satisfactory reconstruction quality and considerable compression ratios, but also sup-ports progressive transmissions and random access by employing patch-wise coding strategy. 展开更多
